Over last 35 years I had owned Yamaha, Denon and Onkyo as I believed they are the best. Always thought Sony was low end and never even considered buying. Recently my Onkyo died on me and went to BB to buy and there was nothing available except this Sony 590, I grabbed and hooked it up to my Klipsch RP 5.1 system. OMG, I couldn't believe this simple receiver was producing crystal clear high volume sound production. It was a delight watching movies and listening to music in my large family room with high ceiling. Unbelievable for an AVR which was released in 2018! Now I am a big fan of Sony and will not buy any other name brands. One thing I want to mention do not use its Auto calibration, just use factory defaults with only one change. Set the speakers to "Small" and just enjoy great sound. (it sets cross over frequency automatically). Most of the receivers struggle with center channel but Sony produces high volume by default. Also I believe 7.1/Atmos/DTx is bogus and just stick to 5.1 as you know 90% of movies are recorded in 5.1 anyway. I don't know the reliability of this product but I highly recommend this model.

Good sound. Easy to connect. Doesn’t have a ground if you’re thinking of connecting it to a record player that needs one. Had to buy a rca amp with ground to connect my record player. Good for the price when on sale.

I bought this to replace a seventeen year old Insignia receiver so I'd get HDMI ARC connectivity and Bluetooth. The first pleasant experience was I ordered in on a Friday, for Sunday delivery and on Saturday I got an email saying it would be delivered that day, which it was. I followed the setup instructions, connecting five speakers and two Sony sub woofers I had recently bought. Setup was super easy. Ran through the various functions and it all worked well right out of the box. All in all I'm very pleased. I'd highly RECOMMEND this item.

I started out just stereo but this gem got my attention . Price was far and now I can have theater… Mores speakers more power etc… I have had it almost none stop at all ranges of sound. Crisp . Clean and easy to operate. Plus it’s real loud.. Till the neighbors downstairs started hitting the ceiling below my feet… So I turned it down and he came running up telling me turn it back up but more! Not all tenants are created equal. Got to love freedom of speech. Nice job Sony and Best Buy is the last great store out there. Customer service is perfect, very knowledgeable and very happy people… I keep buying stuff cause of that and the warranty!!! I will be a lifetime customer to Best Buy…

This system is perfect for your home theater needs. I strongly suggest getting two sony subwoofers to even out the bass distribution. Youll have to tweak the crossover and db level after the auto calibration, but after that, its just like sitting in the theater.

I've always loved Sony receivers and this is a solid and dependable little powerhouse. I listen to a lot of music and watch a lot of 1080p and UHD discs and the sound and video that go through this come out sounding and looking pure and full. Research anything before you buy- this receiver is well regarded and has the right number of HDMI and speaker inputs for my modest but powerful 5.1 blu-ray/UHD set-up. I couldn't be happier. Caveats: If Atmos is your jam, this can't do that. It doesn't have wireless technology. The troubleshooting you can do with AV sync is extremely limited and sync can be an issue if you're running all kinds of inputs in and out of your set-up. I literally only have a UHD player, 5.1 speakers, and I use the tv for all streaming apps, so this is the right fit for me.

I have had a full surround system before and the full surround is OK but not really my favorite way to watch movies or listen to music. I use a system with two tower speakers, a sub, and a high quality center channel speaker. When shopping for a receiver all I needed was something to drive those speakers and this receiver does that and for a reasonable price. The system is much better than the pioneer it replaced because it is much easier to choose the sound settings you want and you can view and select your sound choices on your video screen. One of the biggest reasons I picked this receiver is because it has a USB port which I use to power a ROKU stick since we stream our video. I only needed 2 of the 4 HDMI inputs, 1 for the Roku and 1 for Blu-ray, but there are 4 if you need them. I installed a switch on the HDMI out so I can switch the output between the television and projector with the push of a button. All in all I am very happy with the receiver and hope that it will last many years.

Basic A/V Receiver, does the job!

For the price this is a great entry level A/V receiver. I purchased this primarily for the price. Also, because I was in a rush to get a 4K pass-through receiver to go with my new 4K TV. Basic easy set up if you use the Auto Calibration (recommend). I like that it is not bulky, simple clean look. Works well! A few minor things that I was disappointed with no USB port to directly connect your device. However, it does have a bluetooth feature. I prefer the direct USB connection. I thought it would be louder, my previous receiver (also a Sony) would have the house shaking at a volume at 38 with this receiver I have to be at a volume of 50 to achieve the same effect. Next, the "amp menu" can be difficult to navigate & the manual does not offer a layout of the "menu tree" which would be very helpful to help you navigate the settings. Lastly, the speaker connections are a mix of binding posts with your standard insert & pinch type connectors. I would have preferred that all the connections be binding posts. These are minor dislikes based on personal preference. Regardless, a good receiver, no issues thus far. Great for the price! Recommend it if you want something simple, low cost & if you are not a hardcore audiophile.

I upgraded to this due to HDR thru and ARC was not present on my last receiver. Sound quality is amazing (although may be due to me speakers), interface is easy to use, adjustments are near endless, and I use the Bluetooth function all the time. The HDMI ARC is a must have for any Home Theaters with smart TV. Wasn’t a big deal before with a non-smart TV, and a Roku/PS4 before, but now it is with smart TVs eliminating the need for multiple HDMI inputs, and just using the ARC input. ARC essentially uses the one HDMI cable between receiver and TV, which allows the HD audio to go from TV to receiver, and also allows any additional HDMI inputs that go into the receiver to send to video to TV, as well as audio to the receiver. Minimizes the amount of cables, as well as better sound quality.

Use this receiver in my rv. It is the only receiver that will fit in the space available. The original was a Sony also. It is only a 5.1 system but that is all I need. Sound is excellent and the setup is simple. I wish bluetooth supported audio out but it does not. Inputs are somewhat limited but all I needed was HDMI. This is hooked to a 4k tv.

It all started when I bought a new TV 65" Samsung 4K UHD and started looking at how to connect it to my old (1991 old) Surround receiver . Well the 27 years were not kind , it was obsolete and there was noway to connect it to the new set I bought the Sony after some research online and wow with the 4K set now is a breeze, connect one 4k HD Cable (Rocketfish) from set to receiver connect speakers and turn it on. It come with a mic so you can let it listen to the room and it sets the sound for optimal performance all by itself. I only have two speakers for now but this thing has a setting that makes them sound very close to a surround setup.I plan on adding a center sub and two rears but honestly it sounds so good now I may not . The amount of bass it pulls out of my two Axiom M50s is stunning.

When you see this Sony side-by-side with the competition it's easy to just think...hmmm this unit is smaller therefore it must not be as good or powerful. Well, in this case its just not true as it packs a punch and works really well. I have it connected to 4 mid-range speakers and powered amp. It will definitely play louder than I need. Setup was super easy and all features work really well (i.e. blue-tooth pairing). Another thing I wasn't really expecting is how cool it runs! I have it in my garage to keep me rocking will I work on bikes and projects. Sometimes I run it all day and when it's 90+ in the garage, this unit never over-heated and stayed just warm to the touch. A big plus is the FM receiver, I have the Sony in a place that usually dose not work well for any FM signals, but this Sony manages to pull in everything. I have owned a few other receivers (but this is first Sony) and this is my favorite so far. Sony has won me over.

I purchased this receiver as a companion device for my Sony xbr65 900f. I have the TV running all day and I wanted decent sound from the TV but also inexpensive in case it wears out in a couple of years which is what happened to my previous $1,000+ receiver in this room. I purchased this receiver about 7 weeks ago and have only encountered one problem which I can't explain. I have the receiver connected with HDMI cable to the ARC3 input to the TV. About once a week when I turn on the TV in the morning the TV input selection has changed to the HDMI-1 so I have to get the TV remote out to change back to ARC 3 (normally I use the cable remote for everyday use). Otherwise it was easy to set-up, easy to operate. It synced with my TV and cable remotes automatically. Excellent buy (got it on sale)
