Solid simple unit

Struggles to handle any speaker wire thicker than the least expensive option, but overall the unit works well and has features you would expect a receiver to have in 2025.. The remote is basic, but fine. You get what you pay for with this receiver.

Was the ONLY unit in stock at the time that did what I needed! Works great and am very happy with the look and sound quality! Bought this one for a client too! Note: this is NOT Dual Zone!

Lackluster sound

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know if it was me being a snob, or my ability to properly tune this receiver, but I was disappointed in the sound quality it pushed out to my 3.1 speaker setup with floor standing front speakers. I had upgraded from a 2009 Onkyo high end receiver which pushed out a much more full sound compared to this unit. This was lackluster in mid tone and bass. The setting menus are very plain and somewhat cryptic. You don't have much control over the speakers - no Midrange EQ, can't manually add them (have to use setup Mic). It did the job, it just did not meet expectations. I ended up going back to use my 2009 unit with digital optical out from my 4k TV. At the price, it would be better money spent to get a used higher end model from a few years older.

Thank you for the review and we do apologize for the inconvenience. Sound quality will depend in the source that you're playing. Subwoofer is recommended if you want bass sound. Here's the link on how to adjust the equalizer of the unit.

I'm glad I made the change, even though it was still working. I have always bought my electronics from Best Buy and have been very satisfied.

The old receiver didn't have HDMI capability and I am planning on cutting the cable and going to Roku or something and wanted to be able to run everything through the receiver and now I can. My old TV only has an SDI connector so I can't connect HDMI directly to it. A needed a way to pick off the audio.

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced my 30-year-old Sony STR-AV970X, only after I could not get it out of "PROTECTOR" mode, believing it had served me very well for three decades and in need of "retirement". I originally purchased the 2.1 channel receiver, but decided to use it to replace the 50-year-old Pioneer SX780 I had on my porch. The 5.2 Channel Sony would go in my living room where I could actually use my center channel speakers again, sans, having to add an additional amplifier. I very much appreciate having both RCA and HDMI inputs as I can use my "old school" Sony VCR and DVD players while still allowing for future upgrades. The functions are not as "user friendly" as those on my old receiver, with all its LED lights and huge remote, however, like everything, it's a learning experience. One improvement over my old receiver is its tolerance of lower impedance speakers, permitting my hooking up 6 ohm Aiwa with 8 ohm Sony rear speakers for a truly unique surround experience. I am highly satisfied with both my new Sony receivers, and, as I am nearly 70, will probably enjoy them for the rest of my life.

Needing to replace speakers and rewired them so it’s taking a bit to actually enjoy this system. However, it was recommended and I’m hopeful that it will meet expectation.
