Great sound for the money

Does everything i need it to. Virtual Surround, sounds convincing.... but only when you're standing/sitting in certain spots in the room. 4k HDR pass trough works great on my sony TV, worth noting though that you do have to go into the settings to enable ‘ HDMI Enhanced mode ’ a quick search on the internet or some time with the manual will have you up and running pretty quick.

Sounds ok for an inexpensive unit

-Check that all connecting cables are inserted to their input/output jacks on the receiver, speakers, and the devices.
-Check that MASTER VOLUME on the receiver is not set to “VOL MIN”.
-Check that the speaker settings are appropriate by using the following settings:
Perform Auto Calibration in [Easy Setup] from the home menu.
Press AMP MENU, then select “<SPKR>” - “PATTERN” on the display panel.
-Then check that sound is output from each speaker correctly by pressing the AMP MENU and selecting “<LEVEL>” - “T. TONE” on the display panel.
-Be sure to select the optimal sound field for the content. For details on the sound fields, see “Selectable sound fields and their effects.” using the Help Guide.

Also when watching TV, wish sound stayed at the same volume level. Seems often the commercials are a lot louder than the show. And wish sound could be set at a certain default level so that when turn on your TV the volume would be at the set default level instead of the last level you were listening. My old Samsung receiver was better but needed upgraded because of the input/outputs. Anyone else find a newer receiver that has great surround and can also set a default level?

We value any feedback, no matter how small is. If you have difficulties getting everything synced, you may try the following steps: Ensure all cables are securely connected between the receiver, TV, and any connected devices (such as DVD players, Blu-ray players, or game consoles). Make sure the firmware on your TV and receiver is up to date. Look up the latest updates for the STR-DH590 and your TV model (if it is a Sony TV) on the Sony support website. Here is the link: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support. Try clearing External Inputs Data by Disconnect external inputs, turn off CEC, reconnect devices, and turn CEC back on. This may help to reset the external input data. I hope you find this information helpful and make easier to sync your devices. Best regards. -Ismael

Defective after 1yr
