Thanks for sharing this honest. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the on-screen displays. Please refer to the information below if the home menu of the connected soundbar or A/V receiver displays on the TV when you switching to view content from other connected devices, and the HDMI devices are connected to the soundbar or receiver, and the soundbar or receiver is connected to the TV using an HDMI cable to the HDMI eARC/ARC port.
Make sure that all HDMI devices connected have HDMI Control enabled. If all devices have HDMI Control enabled:
If power is turned on from a device (such as a Blu-ray Disc player), then the soundbar or receiver and the TV turn on, and the TV switches to the proper input to view the menu or content.
By design and normal operation, soundbars and receivers identify the connected HDMI device, and the content (including the menu display) passes through to the TV.

DO NOT BUY

Unit works fine (most of the time) when watching cable broadcast but shuts down within minutes of streaming. Thing is I’m streaming through the cable box so nothing is changed with my setup. I have taken it back twice for service. It was returned both times with instructions to check speaker cables. Why would speaker cables work okay with cable tv but not with streaming? I’m not the only one having this issue (see one star reviews). This Sony amp is unreliable and not worth the risk.

OK product

This receiver is designed to receive a Bluetooth signal from a smartphone or tablet. It is not capable of transmitting one to a Bluetooth device such as wireless headphones or speakers. A complete waste of time

Thank you for sharing your honest review. We're glad that you like most of the features and ease of setup. We're sorry to learn if you find the overall audio quality not as great as you would liked. Double check the speaker wires. We recommend using speaker wires that are anywhere between 12 to 16 gauge. These are most commonly used for connecting speakers to an amplifier or an AV receiver.
To try and resolve the issue if the surround effect cannot be obtained, be sure to select the optimal sound field for the content. For details on the sound fields, see “Selectable sound fields and their effects.”. [PLII Movie] and [PLII Music] do not work when “” - “PATTERN” is set to “2.0” or “2.1”.

We recommend not to install the appliance in a confined space, such as a bookcase or built-in cabinet. Although the receiver heats up during operation, this is not a malfunction. If you continuously use this receiver at a large volume, the cabinet temperature of the top, side and bottom rises considerably. Place the receiver in a location with adequate ventilation to prevent heat buildup and prolong the life of the receiver. Do not place the receiver near heat
sources, or in a place subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust, or mechanical shock. Do not place anything on top of the cabinet that might block the ventilation holes and cause malfunctions.

Disappointment

Unfortunately I also bought a new Turn Table and the receiver would not connect to the turn table. So I could not use it. Waste of time and money if you want to hook up a turn table to this receiver. You have to buy another type of receive to add to this one.

If a phono input is not available, the turntable must have a built-in amplifier or an in-line amplifier must be used to connect the turntable to another input on the stereo system.

It stopped working..

In the middle of watching TV, the receiver turned off. I tried turning it back on, and the display would not show anything at all, but the light would turn green as if it was on. About 6 seconds later, the receiver would turn itself off, and the light would turn red. I tried unplugging all of my speakers and subwoofer and plugged it into a different power source, but it still does the same thing.. Before this happened, the receiver worked fine and the quality was overall very great.. I'm pretty upset that it gave out so quickly, and I really don't know why. I don't turn it up very loud at all, so I don't think it has anything to do with how I was using it/the speakers I had connected.
