    I’m already going to have to send it back to Sony for repair because one of the channels quit working on it and Best Buy only has a 15 day return policy so now I’m going to have to pay for shipping to the Sony shop

    Works great. Have it connected to my xbox, apple TV, and Cable. Also works great with my existing Onkyo speakers and yamaha subwoofer.

    The receiver behaved in a confusing manner: switched by itself to Spanish (from English) language; speakers connected to the unit would not function; when speakers began functioning, they alterntely put out sound, then shut off.

    I would not buy if you are going to use it with Apple TV. The 4K passthrough promised by Sony does not work. It actually downgrades the quality. Returning to buy Dennon.

    Bought a used which was stated exceptional it was horrible had dents and it was broken on the bottom and then wouldn't even turn on. This was a very bad resell on Best Buy

    No thump

    Does not have enough power to push Klipsch speakers. I have an old Kenwood Receiver that was from the 90s that pushes those speakers better than this. I calibrated it as far as it would go and it still has to be almost at max volume for it to sound decent. Spend a little more if you have nicer speakers and want to feel the thump.

      Thank you for the review and we're sorry to hear what happen with your unit. When matching speakers and Audio/Video (A/V) receivers, the ohm rating of the speaker should be equal to or greater than the ohm rating of the receiver to avoid a risk of hardware damage.

    Bad value for music

    This receiver is clearly made for movies. Decodes all sound formats except atmos. Falls flat on music. Sounds very thin on music playback. If you want a receiver for music, look elsewhere

      Hi weinerdog1, while we are glad you are satisfied with the great sound quality of our STRDH590 when playing movies, we are sorry if the sound quality did not meet your expectations when playing music. We are not sure what audio device you are using. However, you may try following the steps below to isolate the issue:

      Sony® Audio/Video (A/V) receivers provide many different surround sound settings and input sources. Due to the way that the audio is electronically divided within the A/V receiver, it is normal for the overall volume to differ from sound field to sound field. Try the different surround sound modes to see which modes increase the volume to the level you would like.

      NOTE: Dolby®'s Digital surround sound usually plays back at a lower overall volume level to allow for a wider dynamic audio range.

      Because input sources vary in the quality, type, and strength of the signal being received, it is normal for the overall volume to differ from input source to input source. However, you may wish to check the following:

      Verify the connection between your input source and the A/V receiver to make sure they are securely connected.
      Try a different input jack to eliminate any issues with the current jack that is being used.
      NOTE: If the audio is being sent from a television or set-top box to the A/V receiver, it may be necessary to disable the internal speakers of the input source or set the audio output of the TV to FIXED or VARIABLE. If the audio output of the TV is set to VARIABLE, then you will need to increase the volume level of the TV.

      Switch to a different source, such as a CD player, to verify whether the volume is low on all sources or just the one that you are using.

    Can't hear the dialog

    We bought this to replace our 5 speaker / 1 woofer Sony Receiver that finally burned out after 16 years of great service. We did not replace the speakers/woofer. We tried all kinds of different settings and configurations with the new Sony but never were able to hear the dialog because the background noises were too high. We took it back to Best Buy for a full refund and purchased an Onkyo complete with speakers which works just great! This Sony might work fine for music or gaming but not for movies or TV shows.

    I bought highest price open box because it says excellent condition, no blemishes. There is a small dent on the top. I don’t feel like sending it back as it’s a hassle, but asked for a review.

    Came dente brand new out of the box. I don’t blame Bestbuy but Sony. Luckily it works perfectly fine. I just have to be reminded every time that Sony shipped the item dented.
