Posted .Hi conepa, Thank you for the feedback on your experience with your STRDH590 receiver. We regret to hear you jad some noise-related issues with the unit and it had to be returned. This is usually not the case for our receivers nor the experience we want you to have.
If the unit is not responding, we recommend performing a factory reset. To reset the unit,
Turn off the receiver.
Hold down (power) on the receiver for 5 seconds.
“CLEARING” flashes on the display panel for a while, then changes to “CLEARED *”.
And, for speaker noise, it could be that the speaker wires are not properly connected to the speaker port. Also, when connecting speakers, make sure that the speakers are within the impedance rating of 6-16 ohms.

Tripping up "Protect" mode

Power it on and within few moments I hear loud "pop!" noise from speakers and "Protect Mode" flickering on front display before it shuts down. I tried to reset, check wiring to see if there's any crossover but nothing. Went back to old Onkyo receiver and it works fine. Returning it to see if this is defective unit.

Problems

Yamaha worked when Sony failed

The first was returned because Netflix , PBS along with some Amazon Prime programs did not have audio. The second one had the same problem. After speaking with the Geek Squad it was suggested to switch brands. I subsequently order a Yamaha which was cheaper and functioned perfectly.

beware buying openbox

When the receiver arrived, there are no accessories, manuals, or remote.

I thought the flat screen TV was bad. Nope. This device, which also routes video from multiple devices (cable, 4K DVD player, games...) to your TV, started cutting out and wouldn't stop. Changed all HDMI cables. Same problem. Every other device still works fine. Only had it 2 months. The Bestbuy site also says I cannot return it. Never thought I'd write a Sony product a bad review, but this one is junk.

Horrible product

bad product and BB return policy

Came late

Customer service women are petty and horrible compared to the men and I just want my refund for this item for being late. This is the first time they have ever disappointed me and I hope it doesn’t happen again when I go to pick up a new PlayStation with the refund money I shall be receiving.

Open Box Excellent but doesn’t work

Installed 3 days past the return date to find out the sub output doesn’t work. I’m an Elite Customer and they want me to ‘ale an appointment and drive a hour to the closets Best Buy to send it out for service. Unit should have been tested before shipping. Not happy!

Bad Investment

The system hops from one input to another when first turned on, DVD, Media Box, Sat Rec, ect. I saw others had the same issue. Wish I had gone with Yamaha instead.

Great sounding Amp - easy to setup

Auto calibration works great to sort out how far your speakers are from you to optimize sound. The 4K hdmi pass throughs work great to just run 1 cable to your tv and everything else through the receiver and still get a great picture. Love the standby bluetooth feature! - This lets you turn on the receiver from your phone and start playing music without having to grab the remote or walk up to it to turn on. Simple thing, but we use that feature all the time.

Sound protect mode

It's constantly going into sound protect mode regardless of volume. We have tried everything and based on other reviews, our issue seems to be the biggest complaint with this receiver. I would NOT recommend buying this receiver because unless you have it on "mute," it's not going to work. Huge waste of money!
