I’ve had the same speaker set up for a while and had a Marantz receiver then a Sony in the past. Wanted the 4K capability through the receiver so bought this piece of crap. It continues to just turn off in the middle of a show or movie. No error on the display. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I’ll never donate another penny to Sony again.

      Hi Icmoc,

We're sorry to hear that. There might be a problem with the speaker wires or the actual speakers that you're using. When matching speakers and Audio/Video (A/V) receivers, the ohm rating of the speaker should be equal to or greater than the ohm rating of the receiver to avoid a risk of hardware damage. Any speakers that feature bare wire connection will work to this receiver, as long as their impedances are from 6 to 16 ohms.

We also recommend using speaker wires that are anywhere between 12 to 16 gauge. These are most commonly used for connecting speakers to an amplifier or an AV receiver

    Great Entry Level Receiver

SUMMARY: I am new to the A/V receiver world, but this receiver more than meets my needs. At 145W per channel, supporting up to 5.2 channels, this is more than enough receiver for me. I would never use two subs given that I share walls with neighbors, but it's great to have the option. Solid, clean sound, easy to set up and use. Would recommend Pros: Aside from sounding and working great, 4 HDMI inputs, all HDCP 2.2 ready, which is great because it essentially makes this future proof if you have yet to jump up to a 4K set up. The HDMI out to the TV is ARC ready. This stands for Audio Return Channel and simplifies the connection to the TV if your TV also has an ARC-ready input. You don't need the digital audio optic cable in that case. Tons of presets for sound stages and lots of options for tweaking sound to your liking. Comes with a radio antenna if you like FM radio as well as a calibration mic to calibrate your surround system. Also I find the design to be very sleek and minimal, which is a plus. Cons: It's big and heavy, which is a good sign when it comes to audio equipment, but still takes up a fair amount of room. Small gripe, but the speaker connections for your center channel and surrounds are the standard clip-in that holds the bare end of the wire. The left and right front channels are compatible with banana plugs, which make plugging in/out easier, but it's a small complaint.

      Hi DefectiveTech,

We are sorry to hear that. The PROTECT and PUSH POWER messages will flash alternately when the protective device of the amplifier has been activated because a strong signal was input, or if there is a short-circuit detected.

To resolve the issue, turn the amplifier off and leave it off for at least 30 minutes. If the issue continues to occur after the unit is turned back on, check the speaker cables to eliminate the short-circuit problem.

      Regards,
      David Sony_US

I bought this to replace my old Sony receiver that did not have hdmi and arc capability. I connected it to my new LG tv and my older Bose speakers. It was horrible and the sound was terrible. The Geek Squad tech said it would never be any better. I returned it and purchased a LG sound bar for the same price. Much better now.

We do apologize for the inconvenience. Any speakers that feature bare wire connection will work to this receiver, as long as their impedances are from 6 to 16 ohms.
