    I only had 2 small rear speakers hooked up to the receiver and when a loud sound such as an ambulance came on a show the receiver would shut off with a message of “safety shut down”.

    I've been looking to upgrade to 4k hdmi and Dolby Atmos. I've been putting it off for a while but at this price range...couldn't pass it up! A 5.2 channel 4k receiver with bluetooth for less than $300 is a great deal! Setup was a breeze, sound is stellar, and the power is more than enough for most folks. The 4 hdmi with 2 outs and a audio return is enough to satisfy most enthusiasts. I love the sleek simplicity of the unit too. It looks sexy! The remote is handy and not overly burdened with numerous useless buttons. No AM antenna is a little bit of a disappointment, but honestly...I usually listen online when I want a local broadcast anyway. No network connectivity is another missing piece, but at this price I can't complain. Bluetooth works well and is fairly easy to setup. Makes using your iPad or phone with several music apps a breeze. Bottom line, if you want a powerful unit with a good amount of connections and features you will be hard to find a better model at this time. I fully recommend it.

    The Sony STRDH590 offers excellent sound, easy setup, and great flexibility. Out of the box, setup was a cinch: Plug in your speakers, plug in your devices, and power the unit on. Then run through the system's initial setup which uses a calibration microphone to analyze your room. And that's really it...go and enjoy a movie. Initial sound settings were pretty good. And with multiple codecs and sound profiles available for each input, you can tailor the sound to your individual tastes and make it great. The HDMI (x4), Bluetooth, Optical Audio, and powered USB offer plenty of connectivity for all of your game systems and streaming media players. And the HDMI pass-through works in standby: Good news for the wife, who just wants to turn the TV on and go. My only issue: Settings are strewn across multiple entry points: 'Home', 'Options', 'Amp Menu'. Some appear on the TV, some on the front display of the unit. So finding the particular setting your after can be tricky. That said, the STRDH590 has greatly simplified my setup and sounds great. Very happy with the unit.

    I Love This Sony STR-DH590

    I purchased this Sony STRDH590 at the Myrtle Beach store when they were out of stock. An employee offered me an open box unit that they did have. I declined at which time he offered to complete an online order for me. I agreed and completed the purchase. Two days later my new receiver was delivered. Unfortunately, the unit was damaged so I put it back in the box and returned it to the Myrtle Beach store. They quickly and pleasantly with a smile swapped me out a new one that had just arrived in that days delivery. I took it home and hooked it up via the HDMI ARC connection, hooked up all 6 speakers and sat back in my lazy chair recliner for a test drive. I chose "HD Digital Cinema Sound" HD DCS surround mode and went to a video 5.1 Dolby Atmos demo video. This Sony does not offer ATMOS Surround Sound but Dolby ATMOS is compatible. A little background on extremely modest speaker selection... First my main stereo left and right channels are fantastic and very affordable Polk RC 55i In-Wall speakers painted to the wall color. Center channel is a Sony 3 way wedge, rear surround are two fair quality box speakers on brackets. This inexpensive setup is offered a little punch with a JBL 10" 200 watt subwoofer. Cut to the chase! For the investment I never expected this entry level Sony to come out with shining stars. (keep in mind i was replacing 4 vintage Crown PL-3 Amps and 2 Crown SL-2 Preamps with 6 floor standing speakers) This little guy is all I will ever need. Sound quality is fantastic and the output power is more than accommodating in my smaller 270 sq ft theater room. I highly recommend this receiver to anyone excluding of course the extremely critical audiophile. PS: The only thing that I could not figure out in the settings was how to not turn on and off the receiver when I turned on and off the TV via remote without disabling the HDMI ARC receiver function completely which is not even a viable choice. I love the HDMI ARC connection and every audio source hooked to the other HDMI jacks on my TV comes through the receiver & surround. When I figure this out I'll let those who care know. My dad would call this review Deira of the Mouth. Enjoy

    I’ve had three appointments to have a remote setup. No one has shown up. That’s 24 hours of my time wasted. You still have the remote. How do you get this done?

      Hi Kate,

      We are sorry to hear that. We recommend connecting wired speakers with a nominal impedance of 6 ohms to 16 ohms. We also recommend using speaker wires that are anywhere between 12 to 16 gauge. These are most commonly used for connecting speakers to an amplifier or an Audio/Video (A/V) receiver. Also, double-check your speaker pattern and make sure its correct. See page 38 from this link for more details.

    The piece of equipment did the same as the last one I purchased there. The volume clips and reverts to minimum. The item truly lacks quality.

    Returned, would not process Dolby audio from TV and would not work with Bose surround speaker system. Had to go elsewhere.
