Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Atmos is not available on the strdh590 best buy lied to me when i was in shopping for a atmos reciever the day prior to me purchasing this reciever why are your employees for 1 insistant on customers buying recievers out of their price range and explaining 5.1 5.2 7.1 and 7.2 to me when i stated i knew the difference i even knew this was not atmos enabled theirs no heigth settings for atmos speakers i was in a specific price range and he kept trying to get me to get the marantz that was way out of my price range then he kept pushing for me to get the best buy credit card, im just saying having employees doing that will chase customers out and not allowing any review or statements that pertain to my comment not allowed on any best buy review.

We apologize for the inconvenience. You can directly report your concern to the retail store. Unfortunately, the STRDH590 is not designed for Dolby Atmos speakers. It has only 5 discrete channels and not capable of Atmos height effects. We recommend checking out other Sony AV receivers that support Dolby Atmos speakers like the STRDH790 and STRDN1080. The STRDH590 is still a great receiver.

Nobody could tell me how/ if the old receiver would work with a new smart TV. The sound quality on this is terrible, it gets loud, but always seems flat or thin. Tried it as a 2.1 system at first, and the subwoofer just won't work. Added center speaker, which improved sound quality some, but sub still won't work. Sub itself works fine plugged into old receiver. Have a degree in electronics, and have tried every troubleshooting/ set-up procedure I can find....still no sub. Going to use sub with separate stereo set-up to not waste investment in it. If I can get time to figure out how to not use the ARC function, I will reinstall my previous receiver. Would not recommend this for any reason.

Thank you for the feedback and we understand your concern. When matching speakers and Audio/Video (A/V) receivers, the ohm rating of the speaker should be equal to or greater than the ohm rating of the receiver to avoid a risk of hardware damage. Any speakers that feature bare wire connection will work to this receiver, as long as their impedances are from 6 to 16 ohms.

Good basic receiver -- fatal design flaw
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Call me old school, but I wish receivers would do a few things really well, instead of trying to stretch their technology. Spent 20 minutes trying to figure out why no sound coming out of sub-woofer, then figured out the speaker configuration needs to be programmed, and can only do that with the remote. My biggest complaint is that it has NO LINE OUT. In addition to fixed ceiling speakers, I wanted to send signal to remote SONOS speaker through SONOS Connect unit. Maybe there's a better way to do it, I ended up buying an input selector box for external sources, and splitting the output from the selector box to both the receiver and Connect. Since I now can't listen to anything generated from the receiver -- e.g., FM -- on the SONOS, I'm switching it out for a receiver that has line out. How much would that have cost to add? Manufacturers must figure that no one has tape recorders anymore so we don't need line out, but they should think about other things that do.

It was value priced, came from a trusted company, had the power I needed, and allegedly had 4k pass through. One of the problems is the hdmi control. It is slow, and unpredictable. The other major problem is the 4K pass through. There are times where the motion blur is unforgivable even at this price. At first, I thought it was my older cables. I bought all new 8k cables, and none of them were longer than 6' I did a factory reset on the receiver and restarted it with the new cables. The picture was much better, but it still encountered stuttering, and motion blur, with some digital noise. Like I said, it was better, just not perfect. I bought a Sony bravia 4k television, and Sony 4K bluray player, about the same time, hoping it would all interphase well. I'm disappointed, but it works well enough to keep it all. Another weird thing, was that I couldn't get my turntable to work reliable through the rca jack. This receiver is wonky when it comes to the inputs. Oh and be advised if you want sound to come from the tv through the stereo you'll need a optic fiber cord because the ARC feature sucks. I used to buy Pioneer. Too bad their home audio gear is basically all Onkyo. We need an American company to start making affordable, quality, home audio gear.
