Powerful receiver and tons of customizations. I have KLIPSCH speakers connected to it and sounds amazing very powerful with deep bass so if you like having movie theater sound at your home this the amp to go with.

This is definitely an upgrade from my previous stereo. I feel this offers everything needed at this price point. Navigating the setup menu and features is really simple with just the remote and receiver display. Though i haven't connected this to anything other than music. Running it with a Sony subwoofer and some older Polk Audio tsi200 bookshelf speakers. As long as the quality lasts, i have zero interest in upgrading this receiver and it definitely meets and exceeds my needs

I bought this to replace an old DVD/VCR surround sound system is an RV. It works very well and has great sound. The reasons I did not give it five stars are: there is no output for a passive subwoofer, the startup state always seems to hijack the system back to a startup screen (as apposed to the last mode used, which would be preferred), and the only way to choose preset FM stations is to scroll through them at the beginning of the list each time you want a different station. There is no direct entry option. But so far, this unit has performed very well.

Upgraded from a 1980's Onkyo to this receiver. My lord it blows the socks off our old Bose Soundbar, the little thin one. Easy set up and great for me for whom this is my first surround sound system. Definitely recommend.

I was very impressed with the setup of the surround sound using the microphone provided with the receiver to adjust the sound. It sounds great when watching movies on the 4kblu ray player and on regular TV. I used the ARC input to hook the TV to the receiver.

I was looking for a receiver that has 4k passthrough and ARC to replace a nice working older receiver. Honestly this receiver was not as nice as the old receiver but the picture quality very good and having the ARC HDMI makes the smart TV easy to set up. I'm not using surround sound so I cannot comment on how it handles that. It does do a good job with virtual surround and processing front sound. The size is also nice, it's about 3 inches shorter than the last receiver which makes it fit much better in the media center. The one gripe if have with this (and hopefully it will be fixed in a firmware update) is that when you turn on automatic input switching through the HDMI it works very well, but for some reason when it switches back to HDMI input from ARC it pops the input selection screen up. You then have to get the remote and close the menu, which kind of defeats the purpose of not having to use the remote to switch inputs. Overall I would recommend this receiver as a nicely priced option for basic setups.

My old receiver went out and was in much need of a new one anyhow but this one works a whole lot better and smoother. A much needed upgrade. Love all of the HDMI ports for home theatre. Set it up with some Polk Audio bookshelf speakers at the moment but want something with bigger sound eventually. Love having a remote to switch inputs and adjust the sounds. It also looks nicer as it is a smaller, more sleek design. Super convenient for storage and in ease of use.

Was looking for a budget friendly receiver, And after reading some of the reviews I decided on the Sony 5.2 I’m extremely pleased by the amount of sound this unit puts out, my movies ,music etc sound fantastic “ I highly recommend it

For 40 years I've been used to higher end electronics, NAD 2200, 2400, 2155, 7155, Yamaha RXV 877, 1500, HK AVR65 and DPR 1001 etc., but when the 2011 Pioneer VSX 1021-K that my son gave me a couple of years ago died last month, I bought this at his recommendation. The Yamaha 1500 is about 35 pounds and will remain in the MBR, I didn't want to lug that back into the LR. The Sony is less than half that so it's easy to fiddle with. great surround setup too. This sounds great! It's hooked up to an Energy e:XL-S10 subwoofer, a pair of KLH Model 23 front speakers (from 1968!), KEF 90 Center and KEF HTS2001 speakers for surrounds. I think the Yamaha 1500 sounds better on music, but all around, this Sony rocks! $197 Open Box, how could I go wrong? No regrets.

Excellent sound and easy-to-use. I don't know why I waited so long to get this. Makes my home theater and music collection, complete.

overall good value and easy to set up. A little light on options compared to other models however Sony has a fine reputation

This is my second Sony Receiver. I purchased my first one thirty years ago and it’s still working fine. I mainly updated to the STR-DH590 because of connectivity. My old receiver didn’t have any HDMI Inputs or Digital Audio(coaxial or toslink). This new receiver gives me those and much more. The sound is fantastic, the auto sound calibration feature is pretty precise, and love the idea that I can view the menus on my TV screen. I would recommend downloading the Help Guide. It explains functions and settings that are not mentioned in the supplied Start-up Guide or Operating Instructions. It helped me out. The STR-DH590 is priced competitively at $279, but I consider the sale price of $199 a steal. I only hope it lasts half as long as my previous Sony Receiver.

Bought this for everyday TV watching. Paired it with some new Sony speakers. Sounds great. It is however a 5.1 capable system that I did not intent to use it for. The HDMI needs to be set up through this AMP for 5.1 sound. I used two speakers, and a digital optical cable to get a 2.0 system

I put together a straightforward 5.1 surround system in my small den based on a Yamaha amp that started to go a little wonky - it would turn itself on (yup!), often would mute the volume, occasionally wouldn't permit volume control from remote, sometimes picture resolution dropped, yada-yada-yada... The sound was basically OK so I decided to modify course and swap the amp out for this Sony STRDH590. Wow, what a difference! Couldn't be easier to set up and calibrate. The sound stage is immersive, detailed and very present. Best of all, it makes my very average speakers sparkle with clarity and crispness. I'm not a snooty audiophile but my ears can still recognize a huge improvement in movie watching at a comparatively bargain price. You'll really like this amp.

We’ve had this item for almost a month now and have absolutely no complaints! Super easy to setup yourself with clear instructions or prior working knowledge and looks great in the new space!

Easy set up, Bluetooth connection to my phone and simple connection to my tv.

This Sony Receiver is great! I've used a couple of other brands with my home theater and this one is not only the easiest (it knows when I turn on the TV without being told!) it sound terrific with my 5.1 speakers!

Overall this is a solid amplifier and is very easy and convenient to use. If I’m listening to music at a pretty tame volume it is perfect. – The problem occurs when I want to listen to music at a level that makes my 2 bookshelf speakers little 5.25” subs bump. This thing heats up like a mad dog when you give it some power into nothing but 2 little bookshelf speakers. I can imagine if you have a full speaker setup and you don’t listen to music quietly this thing will fry. I think if I were to open it and put in some PC fans it might make a big difference. Good product overall but if you want to listen to music loudly I would look elsewhere. The heat problem is a deal breaker.

I needed a 4K/UHD receiver to upgrade to a 5.1 Home Theater System. After considering what my budget could allow (after purchasing the 4K/UHD TV and 4K/UHD Blu-ray player, I looked into the possible choices and this model was the one I chose. I had no problems in changing out the old receiver and putting this one into service. The input/output connections were easy to get to and use, and the pre-set FM stations work great. The only thing I have not tried yet is the included mic which will sense the output of all your speakers and automatically adjust the sound from the speakers to get the best Home Theater sound from. I haven't done this yet because I still needed to add the subwoofer (just bought yesterday) and the center speaker (buying later this week). Everything else has been easy to use and worked right out of the box.
