My old reciever (also a sony) started loosing channels so I got this as a stop gap. It works the setup is easy, and it does everything I need it to do. I was concerned about the wattage per channel, most speakers have a 8 ohm impedance (which is what the reciever is expecting), the Martin Logans I paired it with has a lower impedance 4 to 6 ohms which can boost the apparent wattage. I haven't noticed any issues other then just having to keep the volume down. Not sure if it is effecting the sound quality or not, I will only know that when I upgrade it later on. As an entry level device I can recommend it, but if your looking to pair it with quality audio you'll be better off I feel looking at something from Denon.

Decent, but Could Do Without the Popping

My biggest issue is it constantly "pops" when switching channels or inputs. Sound is fine for basic movie watching. 4k pass through doesn't seem to negatively affect the image.

A Best Buy employee suggested this one for its quality, price, and it not being overkill for what I needed. The installation was easy. I followed the instructions, and when I was done I no longer needed the remote that came with it. Im using the tv remote to control the system and the sound quality has been fantastic.

The self-calibrating automatic setup with the provided microphone worked really well. We use at least two of the sound modes between movies and music. We also like the "night mode" for watching TV or movies when the house needs to be quiet.

Gets hot needs fan

It helps them to sound even better than when I was just running them with the receiver. The extra wattage turns out to be necessary for Bowers and Wilkins603 towers. I think I’m getting the quality of sound that they were designed to deliver. Before star rating is because of the heating problem.

I recently had a Yamaha receiver and I needed an upgrade. Bestbuy had this receiver for $90 off and I was comparing this with a newer Yamaha. While the Yamaha is a great receiver this compares hand in hand with the Yamaha, especially for a receiver that only cost me under $200. Great deal for a great receiver. Old Onkyo system with amp tuner and CD player separates were too long to fit in new tv cabinet. Needed subwoofer PFE output which the Yamaha similar amplifier was lacking. Am currently using only to power my Bose 901 and subwoofer speakers and not as a home theater receiver and it has enough power Only cons is that you need to connect to tv with hdmi to calibrate. Would recommend. Price is right.
