Sony does it again! An excellent receiver!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As I bought this item as an open box and got it delivered for $220, I couldn't be more happy with My purchase. At 145 watts per channel it will fill any typical household sized media room with 5.1 surround very effectively. With a quality subwoofer it can sound amazing for TV, movies or music. It is also completely HDMI ready for 4K and any modern gaming systems, so I would recommend it as a very good bang for buck surround receiver.

Great Receiver
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a 5.2 receiver with 4k passthru for my PS4 Pro and I didn't want to break the bank. I already had my speakers placed and wired. Saw this unit on sale. For the price, it has all the features I needed and then some. Bluetooth included so I can stream music to my tablet and play it through my sound system was an added bonus. Simple to set up and get going, it will even automatically calibrate your speaker setup to get this most optimal sound. Would definitely purchase again.

Well Worth the Money
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good. I had my Yamaha receiver fail about a year ago. Since then I have been using a Yamaha Soundbar. Sound is okay, but nothing like a true surround sound system. So I recently purchased this Sony to be able to properly set up all my inputs and once again utilize my surround speakers. Set up was easy. Once you have all the components and speaker hooked up and you turn on the receiver for the first time you will be greeted by an Easy Setup menu. you then plug in the supplied microphone to the front mic jack and then put it in the spot you normally watch T.V., then select the auto calibration function and let it do it's thing. The only think I had to tweak slightly was the center channel. that I made a little louder for my large room. Sound is better than my old Yamaha that cost 3x more many years ago. So set up and sound are great. Cons; I wish I could program the input ID to match my actual devices In other words, I would like the onscreen display to show me my inputs such as Roku, Fire Stick, Dish etc. You cannot listen to Bluetooth headset. The Bluetooth is only from receiving sound, not sending sound. The onscreen menu could be updated, feels a little 'old school' All of these are minor issue's for what you are paying for this unit. If you want a straight forward receiver to connect all your devices and get great sound, this is a great choice.

Sony 5.2
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a simple setup in my basement family room and this fit the bill. The sound is awesome for such a small receiver. It's powerful enough to drive your speakers nicely. I like the very easy setup and remote layout. When I turn the tv on the receiver comes on as well and vice versa. I would recommend it to anyone not looking to break the bank and just get good clean sounds from a variety of sources. Sincerely, Samuel M

AWESOME >>> SONY
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything is set up easy as 1-2-3. This is an exactly what I wanted, to connect to my Samsung S10+, I can able to control fast speed or backward speed, after a song to the next song automatic instead of manually to press next, EQ bass and terible, watch movie or play game from my phone to receiver transfer to 2 tower speakers. I love SONY. All my products are SONY such as 2 TVs, Receiver and Bluray player. The only thing, the BEST quality you can find product and trust is SONY and I was so happy. I have purchased Denon AVR-S650H receiver before this SONY receiver. I knew I will buy a SONY brand but I wanna tried it out what is Denon capable of can bring me. It was kind of easy but it took a bit longer, I requires to download 2 things, 1) Heos and 2) Denon AVR remote. I didn't like the way the system had set up because the receiver controlled my phone which is I can't a fast speed or backward and I have to press a button the next song in manually otherwise music has stopped after finished a song. I was so headache. This is NOT what I am looking for, so I have to return the product and got this SONY receiver. SONY receiver connect to BT in FAST speed and play. Very simple. I don't use a home theatre system. Just ONLY listen music while I am relaxing in bed. I don't use to many systems to connect this receiver except TV for setting from receiver. If I watch a movie, I will use a BOSE home theatre system in Living room. SONY, you made my days and THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! SONY, is the BEST of the BEST.

Great product and decent price for the quality
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great Meets expectations Needed a replacement for an older Sony stereo in a box setup. This worked perfectly Had to remove Sony proprietary clips from previous speakers and use the wired connection this unit has and also needed to buy a new subwoofer due to this unit subwoofer is connected via RCA cable and prior sun was powered by the old Sony theater in a box. So you will needed a sub that is connected via RCA and has a power cord that plugs into a a/c outlet but the sound quality is great. Has Bluetooth connection but no wi fi

Awesome! Sound is amazing!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love it! Had to replace a Denon receiver that stopped giving the HDMI signal to my TV and Xfinity box. I own a lot of Sony products and a similar Sony receiver and this unit certainly doesn’t disappoint. Sound is full, rich, and amazing. Lots of sound options to suit your liking for music, TV, and DVD use. Easy setup and speaker volume adjusting. Basically just plug in all your equipment via HDMI and you’re good to go. I like how Sony has one setting for your sound preferences across all devices hooked to it, unlike Denon how you have to set each thing to your specific sound setting. Very annoying. It doesn’t have wifi or a LAN option, but that doesn’t bother me. Only complaint is that when you are using the Bluetooth to stream your music, you cannot have the TV picture on while listening to your music. My other Sony receiver does the same thing. The Denon allowed me to do this, but for my piece of mind I went and bought this Sony. No regrets so far and I’m very pleased with the sound quality. Thanks Sony! Would definitely buy again. Totally recommend. Also, for this receiver I am only running it in stereo with a pair of older Sony tower speakers and a Klipsch 10in sub. I’m sure the surround sound is just as good as my other Sony setup in my living room. I just don’t need the full surround setup in my basement. Very pleased!

Great Sound!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Sony receiver is not a top of a line, but fits it's purpose really well. I went into purchasing this receiver knowing it has a lot of things that I wanted, but at a limited 5.2 configuration. My setup didn't need the 7.2 surround. The sound is great and the ease of use is perfect...especially for the whole family. Plug in, setup and you are done. The whole family can use it without hassle. We have used Bluetooth, TV and Movie sounds and all are great. I like that it comes with a calibration microphone to get the system going.

Powerful compact amplifier
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very pleased with Sony on this one, I will get the con out of the way first, no hardwired data jack or app control. To be expected at this price point though. The setup was about as easy as it gets. More powerful than the onkyo it replaced. Very clean sounding and looking. Love the subwoofer line outs. If you are looking for a budget receiver and don't need 7.1 this thing will exceed your expectations.

Cheap, Clean + 4K Dolby Vision Routing
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very even amp and at default has a good flat response that you can tune to your liking. I got this so it can work when I have a simple stereo set of speakers or expand to 5.1 I also like that is has a 2.1 for a stereo pair + subwoofer. It routes 4K signals wonderfully and will do so in Dolby Vision. An amp at this price 10 years ago would have been amazing, let alone in 2019. It's a great cheap and clean amp.

Excellent Receiver
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.725W for my 5.2 system is perfect for my 14 ft x 21 ft family room. It has more options than I'll ever need. I just use it for watching TV and UTube music videos. It was ab easy decision because I've always had good luck with Sony and the price was unbeatable, even by Amazon. If you want true theater surround sound, with Dolby Atmos, and a rockin' TV picture with 4K, this puppy is for you.

Perfect!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was pleasantly surprised with the ease and quality of this receiver. Simple setup! On sale for $179.99. When you hook up the HDMI to the TV via the ARC input (if your TV supports it), it automatically syncs to the TV. When you turn on the TV with the TV remote, the receiver comes on as well, and you can control the receiver with your TV remote. Now I use my receiver all of the time, instead of here and there. Not to mention, it sounds great!

Great Receiver
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just what we needed. Our old receiver died and getting good sound from tv speakers was not working. We’re not very tech savvy when it comes to all the wires. Almost call geek squad for troubleshooting our problem Thought we would give replacing receiver a try. This was excellent replacement. Easy hook up Very reasonable price. Works through our existing speakers great Has radio and hook up for multiple items

Great sound/features for price
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super happy with this receiver. Sound quality is better than my ears, the bluetooth is simple, easy and doesn't drop, creates nice sound from the tv (over a pair of Wharfedale speakers). Plenty of power for when I add a pair of rear surround speakers.

Versatile and affordable
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great little receiver. Even in just 5 channels for surround sound, the decoding is precise enough to still enjoy a very modest home theater experience. I have a pair of Sony towers for the fronts, Sony center channel, And Sony bookshelf speakers for the rear. I have a 12" and 15" Klipsch subwoofers for the low and very low end. The best part is the rotary knob for source selection. My children can even scroll to whichever input they need (usually they keep it on the one that has their Nintendo Switch connected). My favorite thing is the ability for the system to automatically calibrate each speaker to the listening area for optima sound reproduction, or you can do it manually, indicating how far each speaker is from the listening area or how loud each speaker should be (or how loud you want it to be). It also has a very basic sound mode where it only has the front two speakers on. Really, Sony did a great job making an affordable receiver that can still compete with many other receivers that cost hundreds more, in my opinion. I just wish more receivers had analog-to-digital systems and analog audio/video inputs. This one does not, so playing DDR on my dance pad on my PS2 needs an adaptor.

Small power house
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Over last 35 years I had owned Yamaha, Denon and Onkyo as I believed they are the best. Always thought Sony was low end and never even considered buying. Recently my Onkyo died on me and went to BB to buy and there was nothing available except this Sony 590, I grabbed and hooked it up to my Klipsch RP 5.1 system. OMG, I couldn't believe this simple receiver was producing crystal clear high volume sound production. It was a delight watching movies and listening to music in my large family room with high ceiling. Unbelievable for an AVR which was released in 2018! Now I am a big fan of Sony and will not buy any other name brands. One thing I want to mention do not use its Auto calibration, just use factory defaults with only one change. Set the speakers to "Small" and just enjoy great sound. (it sets cross over frequency automatically). Most of the receivers struggle with center channel but Sony produces high volume by default. Also I believe 7.1/Atmos/DTx is bogus and just stick to 5.1 as you know 90% of movies are recorded in 5.1 anyway. I don't know the reliability of this product but I highly recommend this model.
