Posted .Hi Curt, We appreciate the feedback. We would like to know more about how the receiver got shorted out so we can better assist you. Are you getting an error message? Is it still occurring? And with regards to the Atmos speakers, set the height from the floor to the ceiling. You can make Dolby Atmos enabled speakers work better by configuring this setting and performing Auto Calibration.

The display would read PROTECT and it would shut down. I had the 550 before this, maybe they are getting pickier as they get newer.

We do apologize for the inconvenience. The PROTECT message will flash alternately when the protective device of the amplifier has been activated because a strong signal was input, or if there is a short-circuit detected.
To resolve the issue, turn the amplifier off and leave it off for at least 30 minutes. If the issue continues to occur after the unit is turned back on, check the speaker cables to eliminate the short-circuit problem.
NOTE: It may be necessary to replace the speaker cables to resolve the issue. Also, make sure that the air ventilation is sufficient.

Poorly made - doesn't last

Within a week of it being out of warranty the Amp started to cut out, Over and over, I changed HDMI cables, tried different monitors, nothing works - and as it has no passthru mode, the amp has become an expensive brick. Worthless. research shows it to be a common issue, Sony Customer service have no interest in helping. Save your money and buy another brand. Last time I buy Sony.

Good receiver - missing calibration mic

Everything was good except that it was missing the radio antenna, calibration mic and CD. Calling support and bestbuy store did not help. Either way, the receiver itself is great !

We do apologize for the inconvenience. When matching speakers and Audio/Video (A/V) receivers, the ohm rating of the speaker should be equal to or greater than the ohm rating of the receiver to avoid a risk of hardware damage.
Any speakers that feature bare wire connection will work to this receiver, as long as their impedances are from 6 to 16 ohms.

Ok but has issues

Works with Amazon Alexa!

Although some of the recognition software via Alexa was a task but when connected it works well together. Great sound amplification and clean.
