I picked this one because I liked Sony and it was similar. Much easer set up and better radio reception. The wife likes so that’s all that mattered.

HD790 needed a new cable for eARC cable to new TV

The sound is great, lots of tuning for all the options. I am using it as 5.1 for now, don't know where to put the +2 side speakers.

This one fit better than my previous Onkyo and Yamaha units. Only wish it would use banana plug connectors for all speakers.

For the money, a good product to achieve 5.1.2

Set-up wasn’t as intuitive as my Onkyo experience but it was straight forward enough. For the price point, I’m happy with the product as it allows for a 5.1.2Atmos experience.

Perfect for my bedroom
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to have a Dolby Atmos/DTS X setup in my bedroom and most people say the sound bar is the easiest way. The problem I found was finding a soundbar under $1500 that supported all the audio formats. I purchased this receiver during Audiofest at a great price and with the Sony Core speakers I setup a sweet 5.2.2 bedroom setup that's not too overpowering in my bedroom. The Sony 790 doesn't have all the power or bells and whistles but what I was looking for was Dolby Vision passthrough, multiple HDMI ports, Dolby Atmos and DTS X and it checked off all the boxes.

Once they used to make Quality components. My Sony receiver was running 6 speakers - 7.2 channel surround system, with one powered subwoofer connected to it. After about 5 months it started to overheat and went to protect mode and shut off every minutes. I did some troubleshooting as recommended. Power reset the unit, unplug the unit and wait 30 minutes then plug the device back in and power on. After power reset, disconnect the cables between your TV and the home theater system or home audio system, and then reconnect them. No luck. Finally I contacted Sony Customer service, they just recommend the same troubleshooting procedures, after about 2 hours on the phone with Sony Customer service, I had to send the receiver back for repair..... Sony will NOT replace unit.

I replaced a blown onyko with this unit and the quality doesn’t come close. For example with my old receiver if you’re watching a movie and horses run by you would hear them start in the front speakers and run right by you to the back speakers. With this unit I get everything up front and background music/voices in the back speakers.

The on screen menu or lack thereof could be better like for instance naming inputs on a screen instead of figure it out on settings on the actual receiver but I absolutely love it.

I wish the display showed which codec was in use, such as "Dolby True HD" etc. I prefer the Onkyo display in this case.

Good amplifier for the price

If the receiver was off there was no sound or picture on tv. Tried just using one cable between ARC HDMI connection on reciever and ARC HDMI on tv and now it works. Still trying other features.
