Some Nice Features, Some Quirks

Owned for 11 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.It works well with my various inputs - turntable, multiple Bluetooth devices, CD/Cassette, onboard FM. My speaker setup also works well - two BiAmp speakers plus Center. The volume dial seems quite stiff. I bought it open box and it arrived loosely and poorly packed. Perhaps it was damaged slightly during shipping. Since I got it for a decent discount, and controlling volume and the other functions using the remote works fine, that wasn't a deal breaker. The powered USB port is handy. As soon as the receiver powers up, the USB port also powers up and runs the cooling fans I connected to that port. The USB port turns off when the receiver turns off, so the fans automatically turn off when the receiver powers down. The receiver is inside a cabinet, and seems to stay much cooler with the fans running; I like that the fans and receiver work in sync. One thing I found annoying was that every time one of my Bluetooth transmitters powered up, the receiver which was shut off also automatically powered up. This resulted in the receiver running at odd times when I didn't want it to run. I solved that issue by plugging the receiver into a smart plug that only turns on when I tell the smart plug to power up; when the smart plug is off, the receiver stays off.

We got it for movies, not the regular tv. Still a work in progress for us old folks @ 60, lol

My setup is 5.1 with dual subwoofers. I like the auto speaker calibration, but also has manual level adjustments if needed.

Nice sound - but pass-thru is spotty

I had issues when connecting to my TCL 6 Series display. Had issues getting ARC/CEC to work (appeared to be a cable?) and continued issues with Xbox X and PS4 Pro. In the end, I connected directly to display and they work fine. Dolby sound is great and speaker set-up was simple - just wished pass-through worked correctly.

Very dissapointed

The receiver has shut down twice while watching movies. I had the volume at 27 and 28, had plenty of space around the receiver, but it seems to overheat and protection mode kicks it off. It works great if I keep the volume level at 23 or 24, but I don't get the movie theater type of sound at that level. I have had problems with the TV as well turning itself on several times a day. I tried to keep it all Sony because I always had good luck in the past, but I guess 2020 was too much for them as well.

We are sorry to hear what happen. The PROTECT and PUSH POWER messages will flash alternately when the protective device of the amplifier has been activated because a strong signal was input, or if there is a short-circuit detected. To resolve the issue, turn the amplifier off and leave it off for at least 30 minutes. If the issue continues to occur after the unit is turned back on, check the speaker cables to eliminate the short-circuit problem.
NOTE: It may be necessary to replace the speaker cables to resolve the issue.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required. To further assist you, we recommend visiting our Eservice website at to locate a repair center near you. https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/service?language=en_US

Great receiver.

So when I bought my 65 inch Sony TV it was a no brainier to upgrade my old Sony receiver to this one. I needed the ACR capability for a better hook up and sound.
