Protect Mode
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only works for about a year before going into Protect mode. You can get it fixed for free but takes 1-2 months and will just end up happening again in about a year

Great Stereo for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked up this stereo on sale for Christmas around 200 open box. At this price point I was blown away by the performance. I have not had a chance to fully test the Atmos part however the receiver works well when playing other 4K content. This receiver does not offer app compatibility therefore I’m removing one star

Posted .Hi Speaker,
Thank you for the feedback. The STRDH790 receiver supports the latest three-dimensional surround sound formats including Dolby Atmos and DTS: X, drawing you into the middle of the action you see on screen. And with 4K Ultra HD picture quality, and support for all major HDR formats including Dolby Vision, your viewing experience will be transformed. You’re in for quite the cinematic upgrade! Thank you for choosing Sony!

David

It randomly hanged input and
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It randomly changes input and blinks noise on and off. It happens almost every time we watch and most times several times. You can fix it by going up to the receiver and changing the input back to the correct one. It is very annoying and I’m not happy with it. I would definitely look for something else that doesn’t have problems.

Don’t Purchase This Unit!
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Never! Never! Never! Buy this unit! I have had this unit since Christmas 2022, it is being returned for service a second time. Dealing with Sony has been very frustrating. Best Buy only gives 15 days for replacement, Sony will NOT replace unit, they only repair. Last Sony item I will EVER purchase.

Low tech at best.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works as it's supposed to....but quite a let down. I replaced a 25 year old Technics that was state of the art back then. This is nothing compared to that. You can't even change the bass and treble. Who ever heard of something you can't change that on. Quite disappointing.

We'd love to help you troubleshoot your problem and turn your experience around. You can adjust the bass/treble level of the front, center, surround/surround back and height speakers. Underwhelmed
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The power rating is extremely misleading. It is GROSSLY underpowered for the mission and lacks bass power. If you go this route an equalizer is a MUST ! My 20 year old Yamaha puts this thing to shame, but lacks the digital connections for home theater this receiver has.

Posted .Hi OldMoto, While we're glad you like the digital connectivity options of your Sony AV receiver, we regret to hear you're having a low-level sound issue with it. Please try to follow the troubleshooting steps on the link below for optimal listening experience.
https://helpguide.sony.net/ha/strdh79/v1/en/contents/TP0001553107.html
An equalizer needs to be connected to the tape monitor loop on an AV receiver in order to operate. The current line of Sony receivers do not have a tape monitor loop. For this reason, it is not possible to connect an add-on equalizer to current Sony AV receivers.
Most Sony receivers feature a built in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Equalizer. The addition of an equalizer is not needed, and would provide no additional benefit to the overall sound output of the receiver.

Disappointing
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would not buy this one - it doesn't have the capability to separate zones. I have been trying to upgrade for over a month, but the one that can do that and is in my price range is always sold out. The Yamaha 2 zone is supposedly a better option. I'll let you know if I ever get to purchase one.

We value your opinion and we would like to apologize if the features of the STRDH790 did not meet your expectations. I would suggest checking out the STRDN1080 model for the multizone features. Hope this helps. Regards, Sam

Annoying Home menu can't be disabled
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The only way to workaround the annoying home menu popping up EVERY TIME YOU TURN IT ON is to disable HDMI-CEC. What? Seriously? Is it too much to ask for the unit to just simply skip the home menu and turn on to the last input it was on when it is turned on by HDMI-CEC? It's the most annoying thing ever and i'm getting rid of this unit just because of it.

Posted .Hi Tony,
We do apologize for the inconvenience and we appreciate your time sharing this feedback. As part of the normal operation of the AV receiver, when the unit is connected via HDMI cable you cannot disable the home menu. Please be assured we take this feedback very seriously and continuously strive to improve our products.
