great player the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this player for a couple months the Sony 2018 790 receiver is lacking some of the features that the 1080 receiver from 2017 has such as the on screen menu a little bit of a change when setting everything up you use the amp button and the internet updates have to be updated on a USB stick there seems to be no ethernet port or wireless although it does have blue tooth . I use a audio quest Power Quest surge protector was having some issues with my rocket fish surge protector which was causing some issues with my receiver but everything is smooth I live in a apartment that is almost 50 years old. me myself am in my early 50s ,love technology and heavy metal music anyways the electricity is not so good here but with the right connections everything runs new.

Decent recover that had quality control issues

However my receiver had issues, would lose sound from my Samsung TV Arc input. Would emit buzzing noises instead. Returned it to Best Buy, disappointed in Sony’s quality control.

Absolute Junk - Don't use for HDR/Dolby Vision
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Failed to actually “pass through” HDR or Dolby Vision 4k signal to TV right out of the box. What is funny/frustrating is that I also bought a brand new, 75” Sony XBR900F TV, and then got this junk receiver thinking that a Sony+Sony setup couldn’t fail, I could use one remote, interaction should be easy, etc. Also, just got a brand new 4K Apple TV. I had read other reviews that indicated the HDMI ports on this receiver go bad. Honestly, when I read those reviews I thought it was crazy because in 30+ years of owning audio equipment I have never seen a connector or port actually fail, but as it turns out, it can actually happen as it did on this junk Sony STRDH790 I guess. I spent over $200 on new HDMI cables all around thinking that was the problem, but everything worked fine when plugged directly into the TV, but as soon as the receiver was inserted anywhere into the chain, nothing worked. So disappointed. Returning the unit and going to take my chances with another Sony product, the 1080.

Not Reloable

I told them it has to heat up but they don't care. The worthless unit is sitting in the garage collecting dust.

Potential
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Why does it say in the specs section that this receiver has zero digital optical inputs? It's clear when you look at the close up pictures off the back of this model it has a TV digital optical input. Probably should change that. That's a big one especially considering the line of high end Samsung TVs only has digital optical output sound.

No image video
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This unit worked for about 2 weeks and it stopped working with imaging. i could still hear my speaker system. i did every trouble shoot out there and i even purchased another HDMI cord to see if that was the problem. i went through every setting and even reset the receiver multiple times. VERY upset because i probably received a defective receiver and best-buy doesn't even honor any type of refund or replacement. I purchased this is August of 2020 and it stopped working in the middle of august and just passed the 14 day return policy. SUPER UPSET

Disappointing.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Was hoping to like this Sony 7.2, has good sound, but runs hot driving all 7 channels playing music and would go into thermal shutdown. All the speakers are 8 ohm. Secondly the user interface is Clunky to say the least. I replaced it with a Denon for slightly more money and am thrilled with it. I applaud BestBuy for the easy return/refund.

Don’t believe the local store item stock status

Mistakes happen and that’s understandable but when there is no way to find out when a supposedly in stock item will actually ship after several days in a pending status, it can be very frustrating. There is no way to cancel an order in the “shipping phase” even if it has been sitting for days with no change in status after “label produced”. I intend to return the receiver if and when it eventually arrives.

Won't sync properly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The stereo receiver worked great for about 5 months then it stopped syncing sound to my Sony TV. Sony had me send it to a company called United radio out of New York. After 3 weeks I get the receiver back and it still doesn't work. United radio replaced the HDMI board and still nothing. Seems like I got a lemon . Would like a refund because this stereo is junk . Highly dissatisfied

Annoying Power Up Home Menu Cannot Be Disabled
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Every time you power the receiver on an annoying home menu appears and you have to hit the home button every time you turn on your TV or it stays on the screen. It cannot be disabled. Not sure how this made sense to the folks at Sony. I will be returning this to Best Buy tomorrow. Very annoying.

We'd love to help you isolate and fix the problem by performing some troubleshooting.

Had promise
