Love this!! Ups the game on any content that Isnt surround sound formatted by upmixing. Many choices for audio formats, awesome interface to change anything and has power for all 7.2 speakers I connected. Love the e-arc feature for my new Samsung oled.

Took my chances with an open box (GOOD) unit and is was worth the gamble! Saved $200 while it was on sale and it seems brand new! Was just missing the EQ mic but I had an old one to get the initial set up under way. The 790 is the perfect, low hassle, streamlined 4k receiver. I bought it as an upgrade that could work with Atmos and the PS5. its smaller than my old DENON so I was able to move a shelf to give the PS5 more room to breathe. Some of the set up is tedious as it is a barebones system requiring you to go in to the display menu (AMP MENU) to set the inputs to ENHANCED to get all the options. but once complete and HDMI-CEC/ARC is set up, Its perfect for our family!

I would have given this 5 stars if not for the confusing HDMI set up. I was originally running all of my devices through the HDMI connections, but my Samsung TV wouldn't handshake correctly while switching inputs, and it was more of a pain than it was worth. Now, I use only the ARC and it works perfectly. The sound quality is very good for this price range, and it's powerful enough for larger speakers.

This is the third receiver I purchased after first trying the Onkyo TX-NR686, and then a Pioneer Elite VSX-LX103. I would absolutely not recommend purchasing an Onkyo or Pioneer (Onkyo now owns Pioneer). While the Sony may be the least robust of the three models in terms of extras and connectivity, what it offers simply works. As I learned, it's one thing to put a bunch of logos on a box and claim it does x, y, and z, but it's a complete other thing to have these functions work properly. So far, where others have stumbled on basic functions, the Sony model here has worked beautifully. The ARC functions work perfectly with my Samsung TV, and the sound is loud and crisp. HDR content looks wonderful. The interface is simple and functional. It has a dense, solid feel that feels quality. I appreciate the helpful owner's manual. My family has been buying Sony consumer products for 40+ years, and I'm happy to report this is another quality entry in that lineage. I very much recommend.

Don't think twice! Get this ASAP. What more can you want for a Dolby Atmos 7.1 Channel Receiver? As a custom installer, I got this for my client and hooked up all KEF THX In-Wall speakers and sounds like being in a home theater! Just FYI, these receivers are high in demand, can't find these online unless they're backordered. Pick up these and see why it's in demand for 2021.

I purchased this to replace and older system I had that did not have hdmi plug ins. This was a easy set up , attach speaker wires the same as always except for the bass speaker . This required a push plug instead of the conventional wired speaker . I used my original sound system speakers except for the bass speaker that I have to purchase because of the plug in. The sound is great and it is easy to use. I am very pleased!!

This receiver is very budget friendly and you are able to experience Dolby Atmos with it. The only thing I don't like about it is the Home Menu that pops up Everytime you turn it on, and also the display when you increase or decrease the volume level. Menu is easy to navigate, remote control is easy to use, and audio quality is great for the price.

I like how easily the Sony Receiver Pairs with the 4K Sony Bravia TV and Sony 4K Blu-Ray player.

By the time I ordered it it was at my doorstep and under 2 hours but definitely do this again

I would definitely recommend this Receiver. Sounds and functions very good. If you get high-end speakers, then you'll definitely need an amp for more power.

Good product easyset up good sound not all the bells and whistles I replaced a 4k Yamaha receiver wasn't that old

This is my second Sony Amp for my surround and music system. A lot of "Bang for the Buck". Because of my experience with the last amp there wasn't much consideration for another brand. The value is just there and setup was simple. The calibration microphone was a great feature and allows me to tune the speakers ro the room and seating. I highly recommend this product.

This is a review of two receivers. I had read a lot about these before I bought, and the flimsy spring clips were pointed out in one review, though he rated it as best overall of the ones he reviewed. (I have several speakers with spring clips, but these are the smallest of them all.) The first one I received had a defective spring clip, and though it worked, I didn't want to chance it breaking. Best Buy accepted the return in the store with no problem. I ordered another the same day. The second one is hooked up and working as it should. There is a problem/cheapening of this unit that was not in my STR-HR800 that this one replaced. The microphone for the auto calibration of the speakers has a metal insert in the plastic body that is threaded (1/4 x 20) for the threads on a camera tripod. Neither of the new ones have this. They are all the same number, so I used the old one, # ECM-AC2. The piece is called a rivet nut and would add about $0.25 to the price. Other than these two problems, I am happy with the receiver, and appreciate being able to return in store. I hope this one lasts the eleven years like the last one before it dies from the dreaded "protection" problem the last one and the one before it suffered.

Excellent receiver with many cool sound modes, plus Dolby Atmos. I upgraded my 15 year old 5.1 Pioneer Dolby Surround receiver and have no regrets. My old receiver couldn't support today's current technology, this new Sony 7.1 Dolby Atmos receiver along with the new Sony speakers brings true theater sound into are living room.

This is a good quality receiver to replace the one we had that was over 20 years old. It hooks to what I want, and is easy to operate and does a good job. Good value for the $$$.

Got this to match with a 5.1 speaker system and a newly purchased Sony 4K HDR TV. Set up was easy, sound is fine, and the price was very good. I would have given this 5 stars for ability scaled to price except for one thing: I wish all of the speaker connections accepted banana clips (only some do). It annoys me that my older Sony receiver did and this one doesn't because I actually had to remove them from existing wires.
