Painless Warranty Repair
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got a lemon. within a month or two the receiver would go into protect mode and shut down. I started trouble shooting and eventually go to where it would be plugged in all alone in a completely different room and shut down. This review is more to showcase the warranty repair process. It was smooth and very simple. when returned, it worked great for about 6 months. Now going into protect mode again and all warranty periods have expired. I hope this is an anomaly and now as I look to replace it with something that actually works for more than ten minutes at a time,.. I am for the first time considering moving away from a Sony product. I hope everyone else has a better experience with what looked like a very capable receiver.

Having gone from the entry (590?) receiver without Altmos to this one wasn’t the big difference I thought it was going to be but, when it does it does add a bit more expansive sound to the room.

A Good Replacement for Old 1999 Sony AV Receiver

I like the fact that this receiver has HDMI inputs for all of my HD Devices. The auto-calibration option works well. Only one improvement will make this device perfect, provide a better FM antenna connection.

I replaced a really old receiver that didn’t have hdmi. The hdmi ARC stuff works great and it sounds just as good or better than my old receiver. For the price it was good (with the chip shortage ongoing)

Movies sound amazing on 4k/bluray and streamimg services that support atmos. All of the different sound options are well balanced and sound great. I would recommend this receiver paired with a good set a speakers for movie watchers.

Sounds OK for movies but lacks finesse

I've typically been a Yamaha guy but was happy to try the Sony. First problem was the pass-through was really iffy. Most of the time it didn't work properly and would leave me with sound and a black screen. I found a firmware update (even though the update was 3 months old on my brand new Amp), installed it and it seems better (not perfect still). The sound is good for movies. Even after the auto setup the amp lacks the crispness and definition that my Yamaha did. The sound doesn't have the same edges in the low range and lacks crispness in the upper range, but in some ways this works fine for movies and TV. My biggest issue is that besides the annoying pass-through problem, the amp runs REALLY warm in standby mode. It must be burning a lot of energy to pass-through and keeps my media cupboard probably more than 20 degrees warmer than it should be. By contrast, my Yamaha was stone cold in standby.

It was purchased for the in laws as they wanted to start streaming Disney + and their old machine would produce picture but no sound. The Sony works perfectly and was easy to set up.

Nice low to mid ranger receiver!

I was able to connect it quickly and it’s now the audio brains in my basement man cave it the movies never sounded better! The only reason that it’s not getting 5 stars is because the receiver doesn’t have a separate A/B switch for speakers. My previous Sony receivers did but I will be ok without this option.
