If one has the speakers and input, one can experience sounds coming from all directions. On the other hand, one does not get the tone quality one would get from a more expensive unit. Even, I, not an audiophile, notice the difference. I would recommend this Sony to someone who wants the full surround experience without paying a higher price.

Great 7.2 surround sound amp

I decided to add two more speakers to see how good the surround sound sounded. I was blown away by the sound on the side speakers and really felt the movie in my home. After further reading I decided to add 2 more speakers to take advantage of the 7 channels in this receiver. Wow I’ve got to admit I’ve actually looked around occasionally because of the sound coming from the rear speakers, Me and my family are very happy with this Sony amplifier. Next I’m going to get 2 more speakers to take advantage of the Atmos sound can’t wait

I had to scratch my head to try to figure out exactly how to connect my 9 speakers since 3 of my DefTechs also have built-in subwoofers. I used the automatic sound setup with the included microphone, didn't think it gave sufficient bass so I adjusted it manually. Occasionally the ARC doesn't work until I power cycle, but that is probably a failure of the TV instead of the Sony. Doesn't happen very often, no big deal. No complaints.

Great Receiver for Price

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted a 4K Blu Ray disc player for Christmas and since my Yamaha Receiver wasn’t 4K I needed an upgrade. I looked at Denon and Onkyo in similar price ranges and ultimately decided on this model. The one feature I wish the Sony had that my Yamaha had was commands and display settings would appear on screen. The only thing that appears on screen is when I change volume. If it had that feature I would give it five stars. If you want Dolby ATMOS and 4K capabilities but can’t afford a high price model, this is a good model to choose!
