Great Receiver for the Price

One downside would be there is no hdmi 2.1 so it lacks some future proofing (4k @ 120hz).

It also passes the video and audio through it great. The only thing I was surprised by was that it doesn't have network connectivity. It is just bluetooth

Separates 5.1 sound through 7.1 speakers, unlike previous Denon I had. Hwoecer, bafflingly, it doesn’t have wireless or even wired Ethernet capability.

Poor bass response

Owned for 5 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Difficult review to write, on one hand the sound from this receiver is good, but the bass response from the subwoofer is poor. I’ve researched and tried everything I can to increase the volume from the subwoofer, but the receiver is very difficult to adjust the subwoofer settings, and even after adjusting the sub settings, the bass response is minimal and not what I had from my previous receiver. The auto calibration is not as easy as it seems. The Geek Squad tech spent an hour and a half trying to calibrate the speakers. He finally called someone to walk him through it. When diagnosing the subwoofer problem, one suggestion was to auto calibrate the system. Well, if Geek Squad can’t do it, I sure can’t. I never got a successful calibration. User error…maybe! But it shouldn’t be that difficult. While listening to music at a somewhat mid-high volume, the receiver continued to go into protect mode, even with the cabinet door open for ventilation. Overall, the receiver is ok. I moved this one to another space in the house and bought a different brand of receiver to power my A/V needs. I would not buy this receiver again.

I will also say that the mode you need to use for most things including Dolby Atmos and most surround is oddly named "Multi Stereo", and in some section of the manual this setting is described as outputting stereo sound to all speakers. with a little digging I have found that this setting is basically the "auto detect" setting that outputs whatever encoding the device is sending it. I would have liked to see dedicated buttons for each input instead of the dial, but I guess I don't use the on device button enough for this to be a deal breaker.
