    $200 Best deal Ever

Bought this after thanksgiving. Deal at $200. Regular price $349. I think it is a great deal at $349, but $200 makes it that much sweeter. Replaced a $1000 Old Sony receiver that was 18 year old in the master bedroom. Amazing how far technology has improved. Much clear without having to set volume so high like the older receiver. Dolby Atmost really works all the speakers opposed to the 7.1 system which hardly ever the surround back speakers would produce any noises. Can’t go back to non-Atmost. Now my living room surround system feels poor in comparison. I now need to replace it. However, I will look for an receiver with an additional zone. So the 1080 might be the one to buy next. I strongly recommend it.

    The Receiver you need

Overall I’m very impressed with this receiver. It was very easy to install and even easier to set up. I found it easiest by having the receiver hooked to my Audio Return Channel (ARC) HDMI port on my TV. It displays the Receiver menu on the TV. From there I just selected the system setup I had (e.g. 5.1, 7.2, 7.2.1), then plug in the microphone and let the system auto adjust! The best thing I like about this receiver is that it automatically turns on with the TV and changes mode based on what input is being used. For example if I turn on my PS4 with the controller, the Receiver and TV come on instantly. The second I turn off the PS4 or TV, the receiver goes into power saving.

I began having issues with my Onkyo tx sr 393 after only 4 months. I wanted another 5.2 receiver but this was the only one in stock that wasn't too expensive. I initially was going to use it as 5.1 only until I found out that Dby Atmos speakers can be mounted on top of my front tower speakers. Set up was a little confusing at first for speaker configuration, but not too bad. Love this unit! More user friendly than the Onkyo and sounds great. Only issue just a minor annoyance is that every time I turn on TV the onscreen menu pops up asking me what I want to watch or listen to. I bypass but hitting sat/catv button on remote. Would definitely recommend this unit.

My new home theater is built around this receiver and the sound quality is amazing for anything we watch. I have it setup as a 5.1.2 and the soundstage is great for this price point. My only gripe is the setup screens and the remote. Getting the options menu to show up on my main display is a huge pain. I have to hit the options button on the remote for just the right duration to get it to do anything. It can literally take me five minutes of fidgeting with the remote to get the options menu to show up and stay there. Sometimes, it'll show up for just a second and quickly disappear. So annoying.

Great affordable option to upgrade to 4k with surround sound. Easy setup with onscreen menus and calibration mic. Plenty of power for most living rooms. I'm using this with PS4 and Xbox one and really enjoy the surround sound for video games. The picture and video passes through with no problem to my Samsung 4k tv and I'm getting HDR with compatible sources. I also get great sound from my Nvidia Shield for TV and streaming movies. I'm running regular 7.1 setup but this is capable of running Dolby Atmos and it sounds great.

Pros : Decent sound quality (using only in wall speakers so any other brand probably would do the same good job) Great Bluetooth connection with automatic amp power up - so you can wake up next day ,turn your phone on in the bedroom and amp will turn on to play your music Good automatic setup with microphone provided Not so good : Was hoping for more integration with my sony tv 900f series remote ,it will power up/down ,volume level but no controls of any sound features No on screen display but only on one of the HDMI inputs (outputs?) why??? Also menu is very poor... And the MOST ANNOYING feature of this thing is that it will not remember previous setting after it's powered down ,in example using it mostly for tv ,movie watching and it will be set to Dolby Digital but when you power it down it will comeback to stereo or multi stereo setting ...why o why ??

I bought this product for my small home theater setup. I didn’t need anything super expensive but something that had the power for all my speakers and sub with the capability for Dolby Atmos. The setup was easy as long as you have a slight understanding of how to wire a speaker into it other than that not including tuning of the speakers through the amp, it is plug and play and for the cost it was a great purchase that I have no regrets for.

Works great and easily replaced an STR-DH720. Reason for upgrade was to support a 4K Blu ray player and future proof for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X sound. Only drawback is that Sony continues to make a slightly user-unfriendly interface. Auto calibration worked fine, but I'm not always sure if I'm correctly receiving (and then correctly decoding) the highest quality audio from multiple sources: set-top box, Blu ray player and then the TV itself. STB and Blu ray are easier to understand (using the "information" button), but difficult to understand if the TV is correctly passing high quality audio to the STR-DH790.

I bought this to replace a 7.1 Sony receiver from 2012 that broke. It was very easy to set up and use. When I turn on my TV or my Blu-ray player it turns on automatically and always switches to the correct input. The auto-calibration was also straightforward with the included microphone. I am using this for a 5.2.2 setup and the sound quality is very good. It is kind of hard to use without a menu though. When you first set it up a menu will pop up on your TV screen but I'm not sure how to make the menu appear again. Other than that it's a great receiver for the price.

We are extremely happy about our purchase. Yesterday I ordered the Sony Dolby atmos speakers on sale for $99 from Best Buy and can't wait to try them out. I selected this over Sony's more feature-rich STR-AN1000, Yamaha's R6A, and similar receivers *because* of its simplicity. If you need robust on-screen menus, extra hand-holding setup, look to those. If you need 4k/120 look to those; but this is intended for a projector that maxes at 4k/60. Dual-zone; nope. Speaker virtualization bouncing sound around to create phantom speakers; nope (AN-1000 does this, but my room's open on one side so not great for that technique). Integration with Alexa/Google; nope, nor acting as a wifi hub for all your sources. What it does do is set up quickly and accurately. The auto calibration was precise within inches, and a sound pressure check after needed only a 0.5db adjustment to one speaker to be perfect. Sound is crisp and precise with very clear dialogue and neutral balance and tiny details that other receivers miss come through. I can see not touching the setup again for years. Buy this one if you just want great sound out of a listening / viewing room and focus on the content rather than the tech. 4k HDR + Atmos doesn't need $$$$ and a resident internship at (your favorite AV site). Step up to the next tier if you're creating an all-purpose living hub for 120hz gaming, casting from your mobile, going with more than 5.1.2/7.1, doing multi-zone playback or you want to tinker with and show off the latest features.
