Cannot get rid of black "home" page on start up.

On my Samsung TV is a huge black box whenever it turns on. I can get it away after hitting the home button but its annoying! It seems that Sony has an issue with non brand TV's for some issues. Searching online found many people with the same issue. I had it installed by Geek Squad. No answer to why it does it. When the home black box is gone it works great. But there seems to be no work around for getting rid of it. YMMV but that's my experience.

Please make sure that all HDMI devices connected have HDMI Control enabled. If power is turned on from a device (such as a Blu-ray Disc player), then the soundbar or receiver and the TV turn on, and the TV switches to the proper input to view the menu or content. The soundbar or receiver is connected to the TV HDMI eARC/ARC port. This is the physical connection as an HDMI cable connects the devices.
The menu and content from HDMI devices that are connected to the soundbar or receiver then pass through to the TV. Since these connections are not physically connected to the TV, they are referred to as "virtual" connections.
If all HDMI devices are connected to the TV and only the HDMI ARC/eARC port connects to the soundbar or receiver, then the TV will both control and display all device menus and content.

Great receiver for overhead home speaker system

This receiver has 7 connections so I doubled up the two outside speakers to the 7th connection and it works great. Blue tooth allows me to connect my phone and I’m all set to have house wide music for entertaining.

I replaced a blown onyko with this unit and the quality doesn’t come close. For example with my old receiver if you’re watching a movie and horses run by you would hear them start in the front speakers and run right by you to the back speakers. With this unit I get everything up front and background music/voices in the back speakers.

FUH-GET-ABOUT-IT, This receiver does not have eARC even though it's inferred. First one I bought power transformer failed under warranty. Hope they just give me credit so I can get a Denon. Best Buy Geek Squad was fricken awesome though.... But here. Better than Amazon and they price match.

Regarding passing lossless TrueHD or uncompressed Atmos to the receiver, you may try the following steps: Ensure you are using a Certified Premium High-Speed HDMI cable that supports eARC.
Verify that eARC is enabled on both your TV and your receiver, for your receiver press the AMP MENU button on the remote control, navigate to . Select CTRL.HDMI and set it to CTRL ON then select EARC and set it to AUTO. Also make sure that your TV has the latest firmware installed, as keeping the software updated can resolve many compatibility and performance issues. She needed quite a bit more training

HD790 needed a new cable for eARC cable to new TV

The sound is great, lots of tuning for all the options. I am using it as 5.1 for now, don't know where to put the +2 side speakers.

I picked this one because I liked Sony and it was similar. Much easer set up and better radio reception. The wife likes so that’s all that mattered.

Perfect size for cabinet

This one fit better than my previous Onkyo and Yamaha units. Only wish it would use banana plug connectors for all speakers.

For the money, a good product to achieve 5.1.2

Set-up wasn’t as intuitive as my Onkyo experience but it was straight forward enough. For the price point, I’m happy with the product as it allows for a 5.1.2Atmos experience.

The problem I found was finding a soundbar under $1500 that supported all the audio formats. I purchased this receiver during Audiofest at a great price and with the Sony Core speakers I setup a sweet 5.2.2 bedroom setup that's not too overpowering in my bedroom. The Sony 790 doesn't have all the power or bells and whistles but what I was looking for was Dolby Vision passthrough, multiple HDMI ports, Dolby Atmos and DTS X and it checked off all the boxes.

My speaker setup also works well - two BiAmp speakers plus Center. The volume dial seems quite stiff. I bought it open box and it arrived loosely and poorly packed. Perhaps it was damaged slightly during shipping. Since I got it for a decent discount, and controlling volume and the other functions using the remote works fine, that wasn't a deal breaker. The powered USB port is handy. As soon as the receiver powers up, the USB port also powers up and runs the cooling fans I connected to that port. The USB port turns off when the receiver turns off, so the fans automatically turn off when the receiver powers down. The receiver is inside a cabinet, and seems to stay much cooler with the fans running; I like that the fans and receiver work in sync. One thing I found annoying was that every time one of my Bluetooth transmitters powered up, the receiver which was shut off also automatically powered up. This resulted in the receiver running at odd times when I didn't want it to run. I solved that issue by plugging the receiver into a smart plug that only turns on when I tell the smart plug to power up; when the smart plug is off, the receiver stays off.
