    Poor Unit for Streaming

We had to give this Sony Player a 1 Star poor rating. 1) The unit requires the setup to be run almost every time it is turned on. 2) The unit will lock up after sitting off for a few day. The only way to turn it on is to unplug it, plug it back in, and run the setup again. 3) Each time the setup is run all the apps need to be re-selected and passwords re-entered. 4) The DISC player seems to work ok

I purchased this product twice from my local Best Buy and both times I was not satisfied. The first time I purchased a defective model, my player would not play any discs. The second time, I purchased this item the screen display on the player failed. Was very dissapointed and wouldn't recommend.

I own two 4K televisions, one of them is an older Sony with no HDR support and the other is an LG OLED both with HDR10 and Dolby Vision support. I wasn't too impressed with both the Samsung and Philips Blu-ray players that were available in-store last year; I generally skip first-generation products to give them time to work out the kinks that can come with early bird new technologies like the 4K Blu-ray format. I also wanted to wait and see what Sony's offerings would be like given that they are primarily responsible for creating the Blu-ray standard and forming the Blu-ray Disc Association. Reading about the UBP-X800's 3D-printed unibody metal frame that it's built upon and how it helps almost eliminate vibrations when playing your media discs had me impressed and willing to see the benefits. I was also a bit critique about Sony's HDR-to-SDR conversion for older 4K television models that cannot understand HDR signal, so I was really curious on seeing any benefit on my older 4K set. I definitely do see somewhat of an enhancement but it's not particularly anything significantly impressive. In my opinion I would bet it would perform better than any of the other 4K Blu-ray players that do not offer this feature, but given that I have not played with those other players, take my speculation with a grain of salt. I hooked up the player to my OLED and popped in a 4K Blu-ray copy of Logan, ensuring that both HDR and 24p functions were enabled in the player's system settings. I was blown away by the picture quality as soon as the movie started and stayed consistent throughout the entire 2-hour film. Lastly, I did make sure to redeem Sony Pictures' offer for two free 4K Blu-ray movies and am awaiting those to arrive by mail. I do expect to see the same 4K HDR picture quality that I encountered with Logan. If you've been waiting for prices of 4K Blu-ray players to drop, I absolutely recommend not shunning the Sony UBP-X800 as an option; and, for those with more professional high-end custom installations, the enhanced 1000ES model may even be worth it's run for the money.

    Solid UHD Player

Sony brings it with this UHD player. The UHD side is solid & it supports HDR10. The Blu-ray side is fast & the upscaling looks fantastic. The DVD side also looks great! The only knock you could say about this is that it doesn't have Dolby VIsion, but my 4k TV doesn't have that either so I had no problem picking this up.

    Sony Quality

I've had a number of Sony disc players so when it was time to upgrade to a UHD player, the Panasonic and Oppo models were too expensive and the Sony X800 was reasonably priced. The Sony puts out excellent UHD/HDR images and passes all of the advanced audio modes flawlessly. Its up-scaling to 4K is as good as my LG OLED TV's. It has some steaming apps but could use more. The included apps work well. Like my Sony players before it, the X800, through its USB input or data discs, can a handle virtually any kind of video format that that you can throw at it. It's construction is all metal and it has a solid quality feel to it. There are some mild negatives. Sony has not committed to adding Dolby Video decoding yet. Hopefully that will happen via an update. There is no front display. The X800 does not recognize chapter stops embedded in MKV video files. Given the overall quality of the player, these issues were not enough to deter me from buying it. For its price, it's an excellent value.

No need to discuss the pros of this bluray player because the major con cancels them all out. As mentioned in most of all the low ranking reviews for this unit this player freezes or randomly restarts. Put your money towards a better player and avoid this one altogether!

Owed 14 months. Video goes away, sometimes while sound continues (during streaming or during disk play). When the screen is very dark, you can see a little snow. This has done this outta the box. Firmware updates have no effect. Using correct cable. Turn off, reset, turn on, over and over. Bought a Sony back in the VHS days..... It was also a pc of high priced garbage. Thought they had changed... Nope... At least they're consistent. I will be consistent now and never buy from them again. That was their last shot with me. Back in the day, Sony was king. This is why they have been 3rd class for 2 decades now. Panasonic, LG and Samsung are not perfect but are way ahead of Sony on price and quality even on a bad day.

    Does not work with Streaming

I wanted a better quality Blu-Ray player and decided to spend a little more this time around. I found that was a big mistake this player works great for DVD operations but I give it a 1 start due to the streaming constantly locking up sometime two and three times an evening. The only way to unlock it is to pull the power nothing else works. I should have returned this player from the start but once I started using it for the streaming it was past the store return policy and was not even going to attempt to explore warranty. I thought firmware updates would fix it but it did not. I would not buy another Sony product due to the quality of this one.

I have now had my third replacement of this model fail. This is incredibly the worst Sony product I have ever owned. After operating normally for a few weeks, it wants you to preform a system update and will not operate unless you do so. When an update is initiated the whole unit shuts down and will not operate. Best buy nor Sony have been able to correct this and just replace the unit which does the same thing again. I have always bought Sony products based on there reputation for quality. They have really let me down on this one.

This is my second device. I’ve had many issues. My discs have gotten stuck and the device freezes quite often. I always end up unplugging the device! In addition, I’ve had to reset it three times within 6 months. I’ve contacted Sony many times and it’s the same troubleshooting, which does get the device working again, but doesn’t correct the issue long term. I like Sony, but I’m not happy with this device. Search Google and you’ll see comments surrounding this issue.

Bought the 4K player as a family gift for Christmas for my sister and brother in law . Was really excited to surprise them and it did not work ! How can they sell something that does not work ! Piece of junk and it was not even An open box item!! Will never purchase from Best Buy Again as I hear many complaints recently. I went thru lots of trouble to pick up the online order at the store ( I'm disabled) and then to waste all that time money And effort is a disappointment. My sister returned it and did not even try to do an exchange because now we r skeptical.
