    TOP NOTCH

I can reiterate what all other 5 star reviewers have said, but i wont.I have owned this since it first hit the shelves and it has preformed flawlessly,i do mean flawlessly,I wont brag about how good my H/T is,but it is a top of the line system w/the biggest and best of the Klipsch RP line,I'm running dual R115SWs if that gives you a clue of how serious i take my system,it pairs perfectly w/my 75" Sony TV and Sony AVR. This player is built like a tank, and with dedicated HDMI for picture and your choice of HDMI OR Coax Bitstream Audio out,you get the best options for your system,if you use the Coax out for audio you will open up all the digital sound performance available ,which is much better than the HDMI hook up-yes i tried both.In the years i have owned this i have not experienced a single freeze, flaw or issue with it,not a single 1.I have quite an extensive 4K library and it also plays regular BluRay and DVDs perfectly as well.It syncs perfectly w/my other Sony Products. Sony has outdone themselves with this player,I recommend it to any and all of my friends looking for a disc player, even with it being a few years old now,it still reigns supreme.1 thing that i really like in the aesthetics category is that it has no display on the face of it,you dont need it and so it does not distract from the picture when youre in a dark room immersing yourself in a movie. Overall i have absolutely no cons to list with this player,it has it all and is a top performer, after reading some of the negative reviews,i find it hard to believe that i got lucky to not have experienced any issues with this player,i say it is just Sonys quality coming through as usual, there is a reason i have only Sony and Klipsch in my H/T,and anyone that has seen, heard and felt movies at my house all leave thoroughly impressed.I dont go to theaters,i wait for it to come out on 4K discs,so i save money on snacks and have a better experience than in the theaters.I did go see Solo at the theater and enjoyed it much more watching it in my living room.

Great for 4k discs, will freeze with others

This Sony is a nicely built 4K UHD DVD player. The construction is solid and the unit is very quiet when running. When playing 4K discs, the picture is outstanding. Upscaling regular Bluray discs is also terrific. There really isn't much to complain about unless you try to watch older regular DVDs. That's when the unit's performance begins to fail on you. Sometimes you put in a regular DVD and everything runs fine. Picture is great, sound is great. Other times the screen just goes blank and all you get is sound. Or the picture works, but the sound doesn't. Or, more often than I like, the entire unit freezes up and you have to power cycle it to come back. It's extremely frustrating. It never fails at the same place on a disc and it seems random. All too often, I have to give up and put the disc into my PS4 where it plays perfectly. I've tried updating the firmware and talking to Sony, but no solution has been found. Looking at other reviews, this is an extremely common problem. For a $250 player, this shouldn't happen. I would not buy this unit again if given the chance.

There’s a lot of things right has many options for picture an audio configurations This version lax and I have to go for which the X 1000 has but I still say if you can get a good price on those it has a better feature set for the value If you need to use AV composite yellow and red and white Oreo and you have to go back there for this player is not needed unless you’re trying to truly future proof. It’s just my take but if you using the older AV baseline composite video when you’re not really thinking on 4K anyway.
