Locks up, have to reset

The only way to get it to respond was to unplug it. The remote, and even using the on/off button didn't work. After looking on the web, I see others too have had this problem. You would think that Sony would make a better player than this. I will be contacting Sony for a replacement while it is still under warranty.

Posted .Hello Bella, the UBPX800 has many more applications available for customers in the Opera TV application. This allows for customization by each user as all applications are not pre-installed on the BluRay player. Really Sony??? WTF

The unit locks up with no display or audio, sometimes it just powers off. I was in the process of buying all Sony gear, not anymore. Fix your products!!! We aren’t all rich, some of us have to save money to buy this junk!

No VUDU 4K and no FandangoNow app

Yet after installation and setup it was discovered that VUDU does not support this player in 4K mode! So I linked my FandgoNow account which plays in 4K but the Sony UBP-X800 does now have the app or allow you to add the app! I am VERY disappointed that such a high-tech player cannot give you the 4K content it claims to deliver. It does deliver 4K on Netflix and YouTube. Come on Sony, apply some of your reputation and technology to give users the ability to watch their 4K content!

Buy another type
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is a known issue by many people - After an update this player won't recognize a DVD until you unplug the HDMI Cable, power it off and wait one minute, then power it back on with the HDMI connected. EVERYTIME . Look to purchase another brand and or model. Not this one.

Freezing

Except every time I put in a DVD, Bluray, or UltraHd disc, the picture will freeze at last once. It has been doing this since the first day I bought it back in November 2017. You can not fast forward or try to skip. The only way to get it from freezing is to unplug it. This is very frustrating. The software is updated. Others have also tried to exchange it, but still the problem is not solved. Sony will not answer the problem. I left messages but no exact answer as to why this happens. I wish I would have exchange it the first time it happened. But I tried to give it a chance because maybe it was the disc. It's the ultra hd player. So I will give this 2 stars for the frustration.

Problematic

Sounds still messes up occasionally & have to hit the << button on control & that seems to fix that. But a more concerning problem is twice in the last 30-40 days, I've had the picture go out on my cable (blue screen) and a black screen on blue ray player. Each time had to unplug everything (including power) & then plug back in and eventually got back my picture. This never happened until I got this player. I got the LG OLED TV last Dec. & this DVD player in July (replacement in Aug.) The TV allows you to do a picture test & that was ok. So am pretty certain the source of problem is the player causing these issues. They never occurred until I got this player. (Had an older non 4k Sony player before & never occurred with that one. ) Am considering returning this & replacing with the Samsung. Too much $$ to let it slide.

Everyway that you interact with it just feel archaic and sluggish, plus the remote is IR so you have to point it directly at the box for operation. i would give it 5-stars if it had a updated UI and a Bluetooth remote.

Started out loving it but only lasted 4 months

But it hasn't been five months, and the Netflix and Amazon feature nor the Blu-Ray no longer work. Expected better from a $200 dvd player. Very disappointed; this is the second SONY that gave me problems but the last one did last a bit longer than four months

Failed after short use.

No more control. Dead. Paid a lot of money for this unit and unfortunately it is non returnable to Best Buy. I should have purchased an extended warranty but who would figure that a new unit would only last a couple months.

Problem 4K Blu-Ray Player
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had my 1st Sony X800 4k Blu-ray player for about 5 months and it start locking up and freezing during playback. Sony replaced the unit under warranty but the 2nd X800 will not pass the video signal though my Denon AVR-4520 receiver. I get an over sized image that is all blue and won't fit on my tv screen. Sony refuses to exchange the player again blaming the problem on the Denon receiver. The x800 blu-ray players are the same and are hooked up the same way.

High Price Point for a MAJOR Disappointment

I have a quality surround sound system, and I could hear this thing humming even during some of the action parts of the movies. After a couple months the movies started getting hung up momentarily. Now not even 5 months into owning the device, it won't read any discs, and sometimes refuses to eject them. Better yet, if you want this unit replaced with your Geek Squad warranty, this isn't a unit that they'll simply replace, but instead gets sent back to the manufacturer. Based on the good reviews I might have just been unlucky, and have gotten a bad egg, but for the cost, and paying extra for the warranty, I feel like 4.5 months of annoyances and now headaches with this device has been a long enough wait to have a device that functions properly.

Netflix Crashes the Whole System.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just bought a 4K, 3D TV but my 4K has not yet been delivered I am using the disc player on my 2 year old Visio 1K, 3D. So far I find the X800 as expected except for 3 things: 1. When I push the center button on the remote to change episodes on the Netflix app, it turned on my appleTV, Netflix froze, and this brought down the whole system. I could only unplug the disc player to get it working again; I had to re-do the wi-fi connection and for some reason Netflix then turned on descriptive audio. I unplugged my appleTV and the same thing happened again when I tried to change episodes with the center button on the remote–except for descriptive audio. (I had updated the software before any of this.) 2. And this is the main reason for my rating: There is no customer support. None. They want you to go to a <customer> forum to solve your problem. There is no way to fix this—or for them even to know they have a serious software problem. There is lot of discussion on the forum about the lack of customer support. 3. The picture quality for Netflix is not as good as it is on my AppleTV. Everything looks a little blurry, even the subtitles. The picture looks like it has 'crawlies'. Netflix could be better when I connect the X800 to the new 4K. I have not yet checked out the Amazon app. 3D works as expected.

Have problems wiht 4K playback

I've switch out HDMI cables use different inputs and even swapped out the player and swapped out discs and still doesn't have good color. I have a 2013 Samsung UHD TV with HDR. Can't figure out the problem. Any suggestions

DON’T BUY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Brought this home and was excited to set it up only to find out that it would not play any discs The unit was set up properly to the WiFi but it would not update, just continued to receive error messages. I looked up this issue online and apparently this is NOT an isolated issue. I followed instructions given online by Sony and nothing worked. This is going back. Even if this works initially, I would not trust it too work for long. Very disappointed in Sony!

Stopped working can't get anyone to return

I watched half of Avengers Infinity War also bought from Best Buy. When I went to watch the second half I was alerted there was a software update for my device. After the update the player will not play any discs. Says Disc unrecognized check if dirty. Tried several other new DVDs that are perfectly clean. Its now a worthless piece of garbage I cant get fixed. BB tells me to go to Sony and Sony doesn't offer a solution. Stay away from Sony devices.

Some movies will play smoothly, others will be a problem -- pixelation, no sound or picture sometimes. I've updated the firmware and everything but this player is awful. Don't buy it. There are better options available at cheaper prices!

Not worth the money

I had to return it for replacement when it stopped working after approx 30 days. After replacing it, I've had numerous issues with playback in general such as freezing, hanging etc. It now does nothing more than go to the home screen, can't open discs(it does detect the disc and the name) or apps. Sony support is not very helpful Due to the numerous problems and considering the price, I just can't recommend this item.
