Constantly shuts off
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is my second Ubp-x800 and it shuts off constantly. It's hard to get through a single movie without it shutting off. It's going back asap. Look online at Ubp-x800 shutting off and there are endless people complaining about this issue. I have difficulty believing all the positive reviews on this player, it must be hit or miss, or people reviewing before the troubles start in. Yes everything else is wonderful about the player, but that doesn't matter. I'm writing this review after something like the sixth shutdown tonight!

Unreliable...

3rd different brand 4k UHD player w/problems
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is my 3rd different 4k UHD blu ray player, Ive purchased the Phillips, the Samsung and now the Sony. Every single one had different problems and had to send all of them back. I figured for the amount of money and the brand Sony would have finally made a good product but I was wrong. The picture quality was great but froze atleast once or twice times watching a movie and would skip extremely far forward then would never allow me to go back to that spot without completely going to the main menu and starting the disc all over again. Im extremely tired of spending $250 to $300 for junk.

Worst of the worst
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always been a Sony kinda guy. Bought this 4K player 3 months ago and started freezing up. Sony replace it with a so called new one and got it today. Didn't make it past 1 4K movie, The Martian, before it froze up. Had to disconnect the power cord to make the DVD eject. This apparently, is an ongoing issue with this 4K DVD player per other reviews. I missed this one, but will read between the lines the next time. SHAME ON YOU SONY!!.

Review rating for Sony’s poor customer service

They had a promo for 2 4K BluRay of your choice once you register the product. All done, choice of movies selected and done. Over a year now Sony has never bothered to ship the movies nor respond to emails. I will never buy a Sony product just because of their poor ethics and customer service.

Needs an update?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pre ordered this Sony 4K player so I had no reviews to go on but it will not play 4K movies out of the box so I called Sony and we went through a series of possible issues to no avail then I was told after about an hour of being on the phone that they were aware of this issue and in about a week there would be a firmware update available that should fix this problem so I will see if it fixes it and if not I will return it but they should not have released a product that doesn't work. Better off waiting awhile until they get all the bugs fixed.

After reviewing our call data we believe that we have found your Call Event, based upon the call dialog it looks like our Call Agent did not provide you correct information. It appears that you were attempting to play your 4K Disc Title by pressing the [PLAY] button. However the BluRay standard requires the [ENTER] button to start playback of BD discs. We have feedback this information to the Call Agent that took your call to help clarify any future customer calls and prevent incorrect solutions. Please be assured that there is no issue with the UBPX800 and 4k disc playback. Again, we apologize for the poor information that you received and your poor customer experience.

Dead as a doorknob
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DVD/App player worked OK for one year. Then the latest firmware patch sent the unit haywire. It will no longer play DVD's of any type. It warns me I have to update the firmware every time I turn it on but it will not update online or from USB. Factory reset doesn't help. Unit is, of course, out of warranty. The Netflix/Amazon/ other apps still work but I cannot play any of my Blu Ray/HD discs. So now I have a $300 Netflix player. Don't buy this Sony machine.

Defective out of the box

Got home and immediately stated new software available. let it do the download took forever to do anything. once it was updated it didn't recognize any of the blue rays, dvds or a 4k blue ray. All these years i had sony and this makes me wish i didnt

Horrible 4k player

No picture shows up of menu or anything? I allways thought Sony was top shelf? I guess the company has gone way down hill. Dont know if I'll ever be purchasing sony products again. Literally used it twice. Piece of garbage.

Worst Sony product

Software Update won't work at all. Sony Support won't even offer me anything to repair it... what a shame! DON'T EVER DARE BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!

Then, it started to lose functionality until there was no home screen and the player refused to give up my dvd. So, I recommend it, but don't do the software update.

Bad Player right out of the box

couldn't update

Sony couldn't get it resolved. I had 2 of these and both wouldn't work. not very good quality.
