Great player for the value
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great 4K player for the value with easy setup. I bought this same model player for my upstairs TV last year. It has worked great and shows excellent picture quality so when my old blu ray player downstairs crapped out, I bought the same exact model this year and have been very pleased with it.

5 STARS!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Totally happy with my new Sony 4K Ultra Hi Def DVD player. It streams just as well as my smart tv and to have the ultra hi def player running thru my Samsung 65 inch ultra hi def television is just awesome! I have never had...or seen, such a remarkable picture!!! By the way, I ordered online and the player was delivered to my house in 2 days! Beautiful!

Great 4K Ultra HD Player!
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this is a very fast and efficient play with a great picture! The only issue I’ve had with it is it occasionally freezes. I think it’s whenever I leave a movie in the player and then try and watch Netflix or HULU. That’s usually the only time I’ve noticed the issue occurring. Other than that, it’s very fast online, very easy to use, and has a great picture with the right HDMI cable, movies, and TV to go along with it. I specifically own a 4K Ultra HD Visio Smart TV from 2016.

Great 4K bluray Player
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had bought this shortly after I had bought a LG OLED 55' TV. I'm slowly transforming my living room into a Dolby Atmos theatre setting with a sound bar surround sound system. This player is easy to use. The box itself is super small being slightly bigger than a regular size textbook. The remote is small and easy to use. Not much else to say other than it works great.

This player actually plays my new uhd discs.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had two of the Lg ubk 90 players which have a fantastic picture but could not play my brand new Harry Potter uhd discs without hanging up about 3/4 of the way through. Took the second one back and bought this Sony x700. The picture quality is excellent and it would actually play my discs all the way through. The menuing is much better and one can actually disable the upscaling and allow the tv to do this. Only drawback I find is that with Dolby vision discs one has to enable this in the player. It is not auto switching,

Sony Blu-Ray Player Problems
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We are on the third Sony Blu-Ray player within a month. The same two problems with all three of them has been: 1.The inability of the players to work without a series of unplug-replug the power supply. 2. A magenta screen which appears periodically upon startup. This is a very bright solid magenta colored screen, which looks like a filter, and the words or figures on the movie are barely discernable through the color which covers the whole TV screen. The first Sony we bought was an inexpensive $65 dollar one we kept only three days before returning it and buying a much more expensive $250 Sony UBP-X700 model. This more expensive unit was even worse as it came up and operated only one time before just refusing to play or come up with a menu. I called Sony customer support and waited 30 minutes before they disconnected the call. Called again and waited over 20 minutes before getting a representative. He worked on his Help screens some time and then advised me to unplug the player and all associated components such as TV and receiver. After plugging them back in the Sony player worked. But only that one night. By the next night I had to go through the whole unplug-replug procedure. It usually took at least 2-3 of these cycles before the unit would come up with a menu screen and play a movie. A few times I went through those cycles for 15-20 minutes before the player would decide to work. Returned that second Sony player to Best Buy for another UBP-X700 unit. Also made an appointment for the Geek Squad to install this third unit. They came and installed the unit, made a WiFi connection and installed updates for the player. The player worked fine that day and for about two weeks more. Then it started the same failure to play and the occasional solid screen of magenta color that the other two Sony Blu-ray player had done. When the magenta colored screen hits the only recourse is to power down the unit and try again. It does not go away even if I allow the movie to play for some time. Since the player worked long enough that it was past the 14-day return policy for Best Buy I just kept it. And beside, it is obvious that Sony has a serious problem with their Blue-ray players since this is the third one we have bought and they all have exactly the same two problems.. I have just put this Sony Blu-ray player on a seperate and easy to reach power strip that is beside the TV rather than behind it. That way I can play unplug-replug without crawling around behind the big screen TV. I am going to call Sony again when I have a couple of hours to kill but don't expect any solutions. They definitely have a problem. The one and only positive comment I have on this UBP-X700 player is that it displays a beautiful picture. It even makes my older non Blu-ray DVDs look better than they ever have. Picture quality is great. Having to fight with the player just to get it to work is the pits. Our years old Blu-ray player had started giving us problems and a new Sony was supposed to be a replacement. Wish we had the old player back now as it at least operated correctly most of the time. We have been Sony fans for years and our new Sony 4K TV is great but Sony has a serious problem with these Blu-ray players. I strongly recommend that you do not buy a Sony Blu-ray player at this time.

Seems like a good value
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this as an open box item at my local store. I had previously been using my Xbox One X to play discs, but I never loved it as a player (using the game controller was clunky at best). I also noticed that the Xbox has a hard time with different audio formats, like DTS and Atmos. Both of those formats work great for games, just haven't worked well for discs. I bought this hoping that the sound would be better, since the only discs I seem to watch anymore are concert DVDs, Blu-Rays, etc. I'm happy with streaming just about everything else. Comparing the sound quality of discs to my Xbox, this thing is noticeably better, even when it appears to be the same format (like Atmos or DTS). (Even my old DVDs in DTS sound better with this player) I don't know why that would be, but I'm guessing the Xbox must reprocess the stream or something. Either way, to me the difference is enough that I'm keeping the player. When I compare streaming media, the quality of both picture and sound seem exactly the same as using my smart TV. (Sony 85in X900F). I have not tried using the separate HDMI connections for video and audio as my receiver seems fine for this, and supports 4k, Dolby Vision, etc. Even though audio over ARC is supposed to be lower quality, I couldn't tell the difference between that and this player when streaming. Comparing streaming services, for some reason the Xbox is far superior for audio. Not sure why but Netflix, Disney+, especially Vudu sound so much better streaming through the Xbox. Picture seems comparable. I'm keeping this player because sound is the most important thing for me on my concert discs. For streaming services only, I wouldn't get it unless I didn't have a smart TV, and then a ROKU or something is probably better. (But it's nice having 2 Sony devices and each remote easily works with the other device)

For the price not a bad unit.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought it because it was a smaller unit and I wanted be be able to play HD DVD's if I needed. For whatever reason I could not run it through my Yamaha sound system, had to wire it direct to the TV and run back through the ARC. My AV system says it should pass through but they do not seem compatible. Presentation on my QLED Samsung is impressive almost 3D, so I would recommend this unit but would caution on compatibility. Both Sony and Yamaha say it should work, but doesn't.

Can handle near any media
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Extremely easy to use right out of the box. I could automatically see the difference a 4K dvd player makes with a 4K movie. It is like looking outside a window. Such clarity, smooth transitions from the player, it almost looks like 3D video. The player even has 3D playback capabilities, I might just even upgrade my TV to a 3D style.

Works as it should
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a open box and had no issues setting it up or using it with my blueray or 4k movies. Only issue i had was the price. considering most people like myself already have smart tvs out there itd be nice if they offered a standalone blueray player or just 4k player without having the extra features of streaming netflix or amazon etc. We pay for something that we already have on our tvs. other than that the player is awesome, plays crystal clear 4k and quality is amazing. id recommend!

Awesome 4K Ultra HD player
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I finally got an Ultra HD 4K player and it is great. It was easy to use, I just plugged it in, hooked up the HDMI cable, and put a movie in. I didn't have to select the input to the TV as I was planning to do. It automatically went to the display screen showing the movie and I just had to select it. I have always been a Sony fan and this new player is what I expected.
