A more budget friendly version of the highly rated UBP X800, this player does everything it's bigger brother can do but coming a half the size. The audio and video output is excellent and has the same features as the X800. The big difference is that the X700 will support Dolby Vision, but that will come in a future update. While the performance is great, the build quality seemed to have suffered a bit. The body feels really light and almost hollow. The disc drive is a bit more audible and vibrates a bit more. Good: Excellent video and audio Small form factor Dolby Vision (to come in a future update) Bad: Feels a bit cheap No HDMI cable included App support is still lacking The price is only a bit cheaper than the X800 I also own the X800, which was one of the best players of 2017, and I was concerned about the performance of this smaller form factor. After having used both, there's not a whole lot of negatives here. Setting it up was simple, and only took a few minutes to update the firmware and get going. The remote and UI is very user friendly. The remote is much smaller, but has the same button layout as other Sony remotes, and is almost the same as the X800, so no features were left out. The performance is just superb. I didn't see the difference between this and the X800. The video is clear and crisp and the Atmos soundtrack is excellent. I tested with John Wick, with the rain scene, and I was surrounded by the sound of the downpour. In Pacific Rim, the color and contrast really pops. Sony promises a future support for Dolby Vision, which is awesome if you own a compatible TV. Sony players seem to be lacking a robust app support. It has the major streaming apps, (Netflix, Amazon, and Youtube), a handful of music apps, and the rest are unusual default offerings. Unlike their smart tv, you can't download anymore so what you see is what you get. The main downside is that you can see the cost cutting. The overall build quality feels a bit cheap. The body is super light, and it feels like it's hollow. The metal seems thinner and has a bit of a flex. When the disc is spinning, I can hear it more than my other player. There's now a small power brick as well. The player also didn't come with a HDMI cable. Cost cutting is fine, but the MSRP for this player is a bit high, coming in only $50 less than the X800. Still performance is the main factor and this player meets that expectation.

Theater quality and you can tell in the picture, a little more cost but amazing picture quality. This is for the true theater buff. Used with 4k ultra HD videos intense pictures. High quality comparing against "up convert model" no comparison this unit performed.

The Sony blu-ray player is exactly what we wanted. The player arrived sooner than the expected arrival date. We are completely satisfied with the player as well as with Best Buy's customer service. Definitely would recommend shopping at Best Buy.

This Blueray player is far superior the less expensive Sony players with 4K upscaling. We had returned a Song BDP-S6700 because it kept shorting out our ethernet connections throughout the house. This one works perfect for the extra $50

Bought my first 4k video and was amazed at the quality of the picture

No surprises, works as expected. Easy to install and use.

The last time I had a minor problem with Sony was the lack of quality of their earbuds, which literally fell apart after a year. Recently upgraded to 4k and chose this player from Sony and, wow, nothing but problems. It started freezing during some 4k disc playback from the very beginning. Now? It also can't seem to handle normal Blu-rays. Seriously. The MENUS will not even load now without glitching and loud speaker pops that could be damaging. Yes, I've tested all of my equipment and have pinpointed it down to this player. I've been GENEROUS with my 2-star rating because, when it DID work (for 2 movies), it looked great! And, I'm hoping Sony will actually do something about this useless piece of metal. They can't help me now because I've learned my lesson. Buyer beware.

I bought this to replace an slightly older Sony 4K blu-ray player that was beginning to give me disc loading problems. Works well, but I no longer have the ability to browse the web or add apps like I did with the older model. Software won't allow it. Fortunately, this is not a big deal for me, as I have other devices to get to my apps.

Sony has produced a fantastic player at a reasonable price. There’s a reason this unit is still in demand after being on the market for two years! If you enjoy physical media and want to upgrade to experience 4K discs - this is your player.

Plays well and is a quality 4K HD Blue ray player.

This is a great player at a good price. We mainly use it for streaming and being able to add apps to the dashboard is nice. Software on it is good and quick. Eventually, we'll change our tv but for now, this does most of what we need.

For a modest price you get superb video in HDR and easy setup
