First let me say the Sony UBPX700 worked as designed with no malfunctions. The Dolby Vision (DV) content looked amazing on my LG C8 OLED and there is a better difference over HDR10, at least with this high end TV. My complaint and the reason I returned this unit, is the way Sony employed DV. By default, DV is not turned on. You have to manually turn it on in the settings. So far not an issue. Once it is turned on, it plays any DV 4K UHD DVD well. The issue is, once it is turned on, it does not distinguish if the DVD being played is DV or HDR. It plays ALL 4K UHD and BD discs as if they are DV with the TV settings set to DV. This will display all non-DV discs incorrectly over saturating the picture. The only way to stop this and have the non-DV discs play correctly either as HDR or BD, is to manually turn off DV in the player settings. I'm sorry, but this is a real big inconvenience! Some DV discs are not readily marked on the cover. I am not going into the settings everytime I play a disc to turn on or off DV. All the reviews and blogs for this player "hope this issue will be fixed on the next firmware update". Well, the current firmware was issues one year ago and this issue was documented then, so don't hope too much Sony will fix it anytime soon. This was a deal breaker for me and I returned the player for the more expensive LG UBK90 which automatically detects the disc's format. I verified this with all disc formats; Standard Disc, Blu-Ray Disc, UHD 4K HDR Disc, and UHD 4K Dolby Vision Disc. There is NO Dolby Vision setting in the LG UBK90. It just automatically sets the playback format based on the disc's encoding. There are other pro's and con's between the two players. The Sony is cheaper and a better value for the same picture performance. The LG has less smart apps. If you want a DVD player with more apps, then the Sony is for you. For me I do not use a DVD play for smart apps. Once I have it set up, I disconnect it from the web and only connect for software update checks. As for the price, I am willing to pay a little more for "hassle free" operation. At the time of this review, Best Buy was offering a free Harmony 665 remote with the LG purchase. That helps offset the increased cost if you can use one.

Great blu-ray player. Easy to use and setup was very easy. Remote is easy to use.

I knock off one star for two small reasons. No dolby vision auto play or easy 1 press button to turn on. the other is it seems to take a while to turn off and wish the green light would just go off as it shut down. Now the reasons I love it. I have a legacy HDMI receiver so having the audio on one HDMI and a pure 4k/60hz going to my TV for video is great. The picture with my Sony HDTV is outstanding and it even upconverts DVDs and regular blurays beautifully. The Netflix etc is also very nice if you dont have a streaming media device. Simple interface and fairly quick start up.

Got this as an upgrade to my home theater setup as I was previously using my Xbox Series X to playback 4K Blu-rays and it was way too noisy and didn't support Dolby Vision. This is a phenomenal player. My only gripe is that it doesn't automatically detect Dolby Vision content, so you have to manually activate Dolby Vision in the settings whenever you want to play a Dolby Vision disc.

This 4K blu-ray player improves picture quality and sound. Through online update this player gets feature DOLBY VISION which improves picture in many movies. It works good and flawlessly. The only con I find on this brand and all the others is that images of logos and menus when you turn your player on, are still in standard resolution (480p or something). Could manufacturers change this on new models in the future? We are now going with 4K UHD. Isn't it?

Purchased to replace my existing Sony which was getting a bit temperamental. My current TV is NOT 4K so I cannot speak to picture quality on a 4K TV. Picture a very good on my 1080P tv. Startup is a bit slow, but no worse than I've experienced on other units. Built in access to streaming services is useful for those who subscribe.

Good little player. Would be nice if you could add more apps. The selection is kinda limited. Good little player though

This Blu-ray DVD player works as advertised. It is easy to use and has extra features, too. The picture quality is good.

I had originally purchased another brand and was really upset with what I got. I returned it and got this unit. I was pleasantly surprised. All the 4k titles played so far have played through with no sound or picture issues like the other brand. I have not tried any of the streaming features yet. I'm thrilled with the playback feature.
