While its not an OPPo or other Super high end players the Sony x700 is a no brainer for anyone with a good 4k tv or projector and sound system, with the ability to buy stream atmos and having Dolby Vision via software update for the money it’s a steal. Physical media makes the difference ina home theater. Still the best audio and video quality.

After watching everything I wanted on cable TV, I decided to look at other options. Still exploring streaming services. But I decided to upgrade to a BluRay DVD player figuring that I would save money by buying the DVDs I normally watch on cable for a lot less and not need to watch the commercials. Hooking up BluRay player to UHD TV was easy — just plugging in an HDMI cable. Works beautifully with my Samsung TV — turning on the DVD player automatically turns on the TV and the TV picks up the DVD signal without needing to switch inputs. The only negative about the DVD player is the sound from the DVD player is a lot softer than the sound from cable. In speaking with others, this sound differential seems to be true of all non-cable content (meaning the streaming volume is a lot lower than cable as well). So if you don’t remember to turn the volume down after watching a DVD, the TV will blast at you. I ending up getting a Sony sound bar, which I will cover in a separate review.

This 4K BD player is great. However, in the day of Firestick, Apple TV, Ruko and smart TV's...I don't need or even want smart features included in my BD player. At minimum, Sonly please offer the same quality of 4K BD player without smart, even if I have to pay the same price as the smart. For me this just clutters the interface, lessening my experience, and offers me no extra value.

Works great so far. Amazing picture and sound. Perfect for my intended purpose to play 4k uhd blurays. I don’t need the built-in apps as I have a smart tv for that. Hopefully I won’t experience any of the freezing up many other reviewers have experienced. Only con is the interface looks way outdated.

This dvd player is so thin it fits anywhere. Hook up is simple and fast.

I always though all blu ray players were created equal. When people told me that audio and video would be improved with a sony, It went in one ear and out the other. I was so wrong. This 4k player blows my samsung out of the water in both audio and video. Even streaming looks better. The only issues I have with it is that disney plus isn't available, and youtube seems to have a mind of its own. Other than that, excellent.

Great quality and no issues with this Blu-ray player. As with many home entertainment devices these days, it has built-in apps from a limited app store that do the job they're intended for. I just wish that I could uninstall (or hide) some of these and customize the home screen more.
