This DVD player is outstanding, works great in the Sony family and if you track it for a month or two you're bind to catch it on sale.

However, in the day of Firestick, Apple TV, Ruko and smart TV's...I don't need or even want smart features included in my BD player. At minimum, Sonly please offer the same quality of 4K BD player without smart, even if I have to pay the same price as the smart. For me this just clutters the interface, lessening my experience, and offers me no extra value.

Interface with LG and Samsung TVs works seamlessly, picture quality is terrific, enhances replay quality of standard DVD titles. Have never had any problem with a Sony product over many years of purchases and this one continues the legacy.

Perfect for my intended purpose to play 4k uhd blurays. I don’t need the built-in apps as I have a smart tv for that. Hopefully I won’t experience any of the freezing up many other reviewers have experienced. Only con is the interface looks way outdated.

Still exploring streaming services. But I decided to upgrade to a BluRay DVD player figuring that I would save money by buying the DVDs I normally watch on cable for a lot less and not need to watch the commercials. Hooking up BluRay player to UHD TV was easy — just plugging in an HDMI cable. Works beautifully with my Samsung TV — turning on the DVD player automatically turns on the TV and the TV picks up the DVD signal without needing to switch inputs. The only negative about the DVD player is the sound from the DVD player is a lot softer than the sound from cable. In speaking with others, this sound differential seems to be true of all non-cable content (meaning the streaming volume is a lot lower than cable as well). So if you don’t remember to turn the volume down after watching a DVD, the TV will blast at you. I ending up getting a Sony sound bar, which I will cover in a separate review.
