Not a tech wonk...don't watch a lot of movies....deciding factor was the price (reasonable) and the fact it would play both Blu-ray and regular DVDs....works flawlessly and was easy for this 74-year old to set up and use.

The picture is really clear and I was pleasantly surprised. I bought it for the dvd player bt its nice to know that it also plays blu-ray because you just never know

Easy to operate, can use DVD or Blue Ray. Bought this to replace previous one (same model) that lasted @ 6 years!

For blu-rays, the player looks and sounds great. But I already had a nice player. I bought this one for Netflix streaming, as I don't have a smart tv. Well, the video will load and play great, but the download speed to the player ranges from 16-26 mbps. For HD video, Netflix wants 20 mbps consistently. I have 300 mbps download speeds from my isp, and my wireless computer is testing at about 295 mbps. I've spent hours on the phone with Netflix, Sony, and my isp. My isp has sent two technicians over to check the lines. All consensus is that the problem is the blu ray player itself. After doing some research, I've learned that when you stream Netflix on a Sony player, it passes through Sony servers, then to Netflix servers, back to Sony servers, then to your machine. During the travel through Sony's servers, much of the speed is lost, and causes an intermittent pixelated picture to the point where it's hard to recognize. The problem isn't the player itself, but how Sony processes Netflix information. Sony hung up on me yesterday when I asked repeatedly why Sony's servers are involved in the process. They have been no help at all.

We have three of these Sony bluray players so this should tell you how well we like it! The clarity, sound, and ease of use are all there. Great price and a whole lotta awesomeness rolled into this little bluray player.

Even though this time i did not upgrade, decided to go with this small blue ray player from Sony, I just love Sony products, performs excelent , picture is crisp clear and easy to set up and use.

I was stuck out of town and realized that my new box setof a TV program was all Blu-ray ran over to Best Buy and there it was the one I wanted as open box work like a top priced one i got at home

Purchased for a friend. He hooked it up and loved being able to stream Amazon, Netflix, and Hulu. He actually disconnected his cable and turned in his boxes. So more than Great Value I would say Excellent Value.

it's decent blu ray player, play very well for the price of this, it's well worth easy to setup as well never try to connect to the internet yet !

My last Sony Blu-ray Player was a great purchase.. This updated Sony Blu-ray Player BDPS-1700 is sleeker, less expensive, and a fantastic picture at a bargain price ! Why wouldn't you upgrade to this Sony.

This little blue ray player works well. And if you don't have a smart tv, but you do have internet, you can also use it to stream things like youtube or netflix.

My old blue ray player died. So I started looking around and found this one. What caught my eye was all the formats it plays. It's also small and simple to operate. So far I'm loving it. Great deal for a great price.

My Playstation went out, which was my main source of streaming and playing dvds. Not only is the Sony-BD player a good backup streaming device/blu-ray player, but low in price as well. This device has to be directly wired for internet capabilities.

Works very nicely. My Sony tv turns on when I turn on the player without any initial setup. Easy to operate. Good picture and sound qualities.
