I'd a similar experience with my previous player, a different model, which gave up in a similar manner, but after six years' service. My experience with Sony's cameras and other gadgets has been excellent. So I've no idea why this one was such a dud.

The next time I used it, I couldn't get the remote control to do anything. I replaced the batteries and it still didn't work. I am stuck with a DVD player I can't use because it has been over 30 days since I bought it.
