Both DVDs and Blu-rays play nicely on a 40" screen without much tearing, stuttering, or grainyness. A single HDMI cable connects audio and video which is far simpler than the days of yore where to get such a nice picture one had to connect 3 component video cables and two individual audio cables. Lastly, this unit is VERY compact, which was perfect for the use case scenario. The stand for the TV is small, so a clean look was paramount.
