This Sony 4K player delivers excellent quality in a small package. I picked this up because it plays Dolby Vision, Dolby Audio, and DTS HD Audio. It comes in a small box, includes an HDMI cable, remote and batteries. Previously I had my older 4k player hooked straight up to the tv, and was using an optical cable to connect my soundbar to the tv. Well with this Sony unit, I wanted to use full HDMI for my connections to experience the best audio quality. To do this, use the included HDMI cable and plug into the back of this 4K player port for HDMI labeled VIDEO/AUDIO. The other end goes into the back of the soundbar HDMI port labeled "HDMI IN". You will need another HDMI 4K cable to plus into the back of the soundbars HDMI port labeled "HDMI OUT ARC". The other end of this cable goes to your TV HDMI Port that HAS TO BE LABLED "ARC" as well. You will also need to change your TV settings to allow "HDMI CEC" or something similar to be "on". It is usually defaulted to off. This also allows you to still play any other HDMI connected devices on your tv straight through the soundbar. But those will be compressed audio. If you want to have uncompressed HD audio, you have to hook the source (in this case 4K player), straight up to the output source (in this case my soundbar). The reason why I am listing how to connect properly is so you can make the best use out of your SONY UBP-X700 player and get the best possible audio from watching glorious 4K movies in high definition. I mean that is the reason you are buying a 4K player right? Don't just settle for 4K video, make sure you also setup 4K audio for a true theater experience! Overall setup was easy. Plug and play. Turn on blu ray player and go through setup instructions to connect to your Wifi if you wish to use the streaming apps on the player or to be able to update the player. **Technically this could be a negative, and not just for this SONY player but "Smart" 4K players in general. Nowadays people stream from their TV. and most have a fire stick or roku stick, etc. NOBODY I know is turning on their 4K or blu ray player to connect to netflix lol. I feel like these companies could save some money on the cost of making the player if they left out the streaming apps. They just aren't needed imo. This unit is nice and has a USB port right on the front of the player. You can play audio and video files from a USB stick. It is also a tiny space taker. It is about 3/4 the size of my previous LG 4K UHD player. **This unit also is 3D capable and although I know it is a dying format, but would be nice to see more clearer on the box besides a tiny logo on the bottom along the BACK of the box. Overall a great unit, and highly recommended.

Purchased about a month ago so that I could watch Game Of Thrones in 4k UHD. Unfortunately near the end of a disk (about 3.5 hours) it begins to freeze and stutter, which I assume is due to a weak laser. Pretty disappointing to discover.

Excellent purchase. All LG entertainment 65”C1 OLED, 2.1 Soundbar and 4k player. Very happy with all.

Mine was DOA. On the positive side, the return at Best Buy was very easy.

Works great when it works, 2 hours into my brand new 4k Blu-ray movie this unit freezes and starts skipping multiple minutes at a time. My other Sony Blu-ray player started doing the same thing after a year or so. Looks like I'm not buying any more Sony Blu-Ray players, and this one is going to be returned.

Solid player so far; it actually updated unlike my last Sony player, so that’s a positive!

I hoped the Blu-ray player would have good slow motion features like the older Sony players. If you need slow motion this is not the player for you.

This product works very well, and i would recommend it for the price and brand name.

not really as advertised. Unable to upgrade or download any modifications or software. Called Sony customer service, what a waste of time!

Don’t purchase. Had to get it repaired at least five times. the sound is horrible. do not recommend. my current television sounds better than this poor quality sound bar. i would not purchase. i have been waiting for over two weeks now since i dropped it off.

I have a 4K TV and a 4K player and I don’t see a difference in the picture versus a High definition TV Definitely not worth the price

Specifically purchased this bluray because review photos showed that it came with hulu and it does NOT. No apps can be added. Returning and will keep looking for a bluray that cones with HULU.

Excellent 4K HDR Blu Ray Player. Good choice is you don't want anything fancy.

Great to watch movies off of. Used to watch on a big screen using a projector

The item is very flimsy. The power cord went bad less then 3 months into usage.

This Sony Ultra HD Blu-ray player gives me some very mixed feelings. There are a few things that are really good and some things that are really frustrating. Where this Blu-ray player shines is in picture quality. It is fantastic, some of the most crisp and realistic looking video I have ever seen. The images really “pop” on screen. The HDR gives amazing contrast and sharpness that my Roku Ultra, Apple TV 4k or Google TV can replicate even though they have HDR as well. It makes older shows like “Dexter” look like they were filmed last year. I can’t say enough about how good the streaming and disc playback quality is. It looks good, doesn’t take up too much space. It comes with batteries for the remote and a nice HDMI cable. The menu is pretty dated but easy to navigate. This is where the good ends though. I can’t blame Sony entirely for this but how hard is it to make a Blu-ray player that has enough apps on it to replace my Roku or Apple TV? As I mentioned earlier, this box is hands-down, the BEST streaming device I’ve ever used… for picture quality. When it comes to available apps… it is terrible. It has some of the big ones available like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube but that is about it. There is no app store or way to add any others. I use YouTube TV as my primary tv service - not available. Also missing from the lineup are the following services that I use - HBO Max, Showtime, Disney+, ESPN+, Apple TV+, AMC, and Hulu! I just want to have one box that does it all but I still can’t find one. The other big issue with this Blu-ray player is how glitchy it is. I hope software updates will help but right now I am having issues. Sometimes the remote suddenly stops working and the player will just shut down. The remote has a Netflix button on it but it hasn’t worked since I got this. When I press the Netflix button I get a message that says an error occurred but when I select Netflix from the menu it works just fine. Overall I like this Blu-ray player because of the picture. If I am watching Netflix or Amazon shows I certainly use this player over the Roku 4k. I hope software updates will cure the glitches and maybe even add more streaming services (looking at you Sony!)

Picture seems fine but I’ve had it stop playing during a 4K movie and the only thing I could do was a power reset

After setting it up and then playing a dvd, the close caption would display even after putting the settings to no CC. Plus customer service on the phone was no help since it is in another country. I have received no help in the matter with this issue.
