This Sony Ultra HD Blu-ray player gives me some very mixed feelings. There are a few things that are really good and some things that are really frustrating. Where this Blu-ray player shines is in picture quality. It is fantastic, some of the most crisp and realistic looking video I have ever seen. The images really “pop” on screen. The HDR gives amazing contrast and sharpness that my Roku Ultra, Apple TV 4k or Google TV can replicate even though they have HDR as well. It makes older shows like “Dexter” look like they were filmed last year. I can’t say enough about how good the streaming and disc playback quality is. It looks good, doesn’t take up too much space. It comes with batteries for the remote and a nice HDMI cable. The menu is pretty dated but easy to navigate. This is where the good ends though. I can’t blame Sony entirely for this but how hard is it to make a Blu-ray player that has enough apps on it to replace my Roku or Apple TV? As I mentioned earlier, this box is hands-down, the BEST streaming device I’ve ever used… for picture quality. When it comes to available apps… it is terrible. It has some of the big ones available like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube but that is about it. There is no app store or way to add any others. I use YouTube TV as my primary tv service - not available. Also missing from the lineup are the following services that I use - HBO Max, Showtime, Disney+, ESPN+, Apple TV+, AMC, and Hulu! I just want to have one box that does it all but I still can’t find one. The other big issue with this Blu-ray player is how glitchy it is. I hope software updates will help but right now I am having issues. Sometimes the remote suddenly stops working and the player will just shut down. The remote has a Netflix button on it but it hasn’t worked since I got this. When I press the Netflix button I get a message that says an error occurred but when I select Netflix from the menu it works just fine. Overall I like this Blu-ray player because of the picture. If I am watching Netflix or Amazon shows I certainly use this player over the Roku 4k. I hope software updates will cure the glitches and maybe even add more streaming services (looking at you Sony!)

Specifically purchased this bluray because review photos showed that it came with hulu and it does NOT. No apps can be added. Returning and will keep looking for a bluray that cones with HULU.

Probably a good unit but doesn't support Netflix....

After setting it up and then playing a dvd, the close caption would display even after putting the settings to no CC. Plus customer service on the phone was no help since it is in another country. I have received no help in the matter with this issue.

Software won’t update. And since it’s a year after purchase, SONY bailed and said you’re on your own. Barely a year and a half old. Highly disappointed.

Good dvd player, purchased on sale item. Works well.

The item is very flimsy. The power cord went bad less then 3 months into usage.

Never had issues with Sony until now. Cheaply made, and after hooking up to a new Onkyo TX NR7100, no signal. Nothing. Changed ports - again, nothing. Re - hooked my much older LG, it worked fine. As I stated, sadly dissapointed with the quality of this product.

I bought this dvd player new. After having for a few weeks the sound quit working. You would have to turn it off and back on a few times then sound would strt back working.

Completely dead one month later. Not even powering on

We are enjoying the sound we receive from our new sound bar.

The reviews said this was a great machine. My experience was that it didn't like some of my blue ray hi-def disks. They would stop in the middle. Had to return the machine.

Glitchy with what movies it wants to play no matter dvd,blu ray or 4k disc. Exchanged and the same thing. Sony 4k TVs all day, 4k players never again.
