Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything seems to work fine, but we are disappointed that we cannot add apps. We have a smart TV that won't support the PBS app, so we thought that this new device would. It can't.

Fortunately, i had bought the 4 year extended warranty, and i exchanged it for a Panasonic 820; let’s see how it goes. If you buy ANY 4K player, make sure to get the extended warranty.

Freezes up with most 4k discs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.As many others have said, always freezes up on 4k discs about 2/3 through the movie. Have to eject disc, reinsert and fast forward to where it froze or just past it to continue playing. Looks like the 800 model does the same thing. DVD and BD work fine. If Sony can't fix this issue with 4k imagine the nightmare with 8k.

It was not an item I used every day, but I used it for movies with Dolby Vision. While watching one Blu-ray, the unit locked up and I had to take the top off to get the disc out. I needed to watch some movies with headphones on another Sony unit that had Bluetooth so I unplugged this one. The unit had sat unplugged for a couple of months and when I plugged it back it, it would not power up. Had the unit tested and power was going in to the plug but it was not getting into the unit to power it up so now I have a $250 dust collector. This unit it cheaply made to fail. The older Sony player is more durable and even when it was unplugged for a while, it still powered up. Avoid this model at all costs.

Half the time, it simply won’t read Blu-ray’s and 4k discs. It just keeps saying “check to see if disc is in format”, etc. These are brand new movies that I buy. Save yourself the headache, buy a different brand. Worst product I’ve ever seen Sony push out. They need to discontinue making these. Total waste of money and time.

Received replacement unit, which worked for another 11 months....same glitch problem. But Sony One Year Warranty only covers from the date of ORIGINAL PURCHASE. So after spending over $200, and a lot of inconvenience, they told me to PUNT. I won't be buying another Sony product

I've had many issues with this player freezing. Mostly with 100GB triple layer discs but many Disney distributed discs as well. Save yourself the headache and spend the extra coin on something else.
