Tried 2 units - Both locked up after using USB functions - I think it effects all units - Sony needs to update firmware - I am doubtful they will - Asked Best Buy for an adjustment to compensate for improper function - Was told Sony would remove their products from Best Buy if they adjusted the price - REALLY - I DOUBT IT.

I love Sony but this was ridiculous. The player upscales regular blu ray as well as streaming media but doesn't play 4K blu rays. Blows my mind - so needless to say I've returned it.

Hello Scorepio, thank you for your message. It is unfortunate the Streaming 4K Upscaling Blu-ray player did not meet your expectations and decided to return it. SONY takes into consideration all good or bad feedback to improve the performance and quality of our products. Oscar. sony_US

I bought it twice because I was thinking the first unit was defective, well the second one had the same issue, contact Sony to see if the hear about it and it was a pain to contact them. So I just followed Best Buy advice and bought the new version.

Sony advertise this player for sound quality. But what they don't advertise is the superb picture quality. I am very happy with the purchase of this BD player. From the build quality, sound and picture quality nothing to complain. Unlike other brand the remote control is also very easy to use with a nice layout. The only thing that's missing is it cannot play 4K disks but I knew it before I purchased it. But the up convert picture quality from this player is as good as 4K.

Overall, this is a great machine loaded with features . However, Sony always seems to leave out something from their flagship BD Players to prevent me from giving it a perfect score. This time they removed the USB port from the back of the player. This is important because you will need a USB memory drive for the resume playback feature on some Blu ray movies. This player only have one USB port on the front and the player does not looks good with a USB flash drive sticking out on the front.

I decided to replace my Sony BDP-S780 (I actually have several of these players) which is an excellent player. For the price I was expecting significant improvements since the 780 is much older technology. I knew from the get go that the Sony UHPH1 plays many differing audio technologies and can do 4K upscaling. Sadly it does not play 4K discs. I actually preferred the sound and video on my older player. The only improvement I noticed was the wireless operating system for the internet. I own a LG OLED so I am expecting premium quality video, and was expecting this up to date bluray player to mate with my flagship tv to wow me. But alas I had to return to old faithful BDP-S780

No Atmos or DTSX output on Blu Ray Disc !

This thing is a joke. Fired it up and played Heart of Sea 3D Blu Ray in Atmos, the blu-ray player does not output Atmos to the amplifier. Next I played Gods of Egypt which is in DTS X. The blu ray does not output DTS X again. I connect my flash drive which has downloaded DTSX and Atmos Demos and play directly from the blu-ray player. Everything plays great and my Amplifier recognizes both Atmos and DTSX. Go back to BluRay Disc no Atmos or DTSX Output ! SONY GET THIS FIXED !!! $350 for a BluRay player that does not output BluRay Movies in Atmos or DTSX.

      Hi GadgetMaN24,

The UHPH1 does support Atmos and DTS:X audio streams.
On the UHPH1, you need to change the following setting:
Setup > Audio Settings > BD Audio MIX Setting > OFF

The supporting Home Theater system must support Atmos and DTS:X and have a speaker pattern set that supports those formats.

Please send us an email at [email protected] if you have any questions or comments.

      Thanks.

It's not worth $350 if picture quality matters

100% the same picture quality as Sony's under $100 players. If I'm going to pay 70% the cost of an Oppo blu ray player I'd hope to get better video quality or at least someone to come mow my yard for a couple of months.
