Posted .Hi Streamer,
That's a fantastic upgrade! It sounds like you got a great deal on the ULT FIELD 5. While the ULT FIELD 3 is a solid speaker, the ULT FIELD 5 definitely offers some notable enhancements, especially if you're looking for bigger sound, more powerful bass, and those cool lights.
Thanks for choosing Sony.

Sony has really up their game this time.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the pleasure of listening to this new Sony ULT Field 3 now for the better part of a week and I must say this is a very impressive Bluetooth speaker. The speaker is a perfect size for carrying around with a weight of just under 3lbs. Unlike last years XE series speakers the Field 3 now comes with a carrying strap that connects to the speaker via 2 hidden connecting straps on the speaker. It takes a little getting used to when removing the strap as the metal connector is kind of like a fish hook with a barb that you have to get used to in order to release it. The Field 3 incorporates a woofer and tweeter along with 2 passive radiators in a nicely finished enclosure that is shockproof, water proof, dust proof and rust proof. The speaker can be played in either a horizontal or vertical position, but I have found the horizontal position to sound best. Both the woofer and tweeter are angled slightly upwards which helps improve the soundstage when sitting on a table or anywhere below your ear level. Sony has a new Sound Connect app that allows you to EQ the speaker however if you are using the ULT feature the EQ is fixed which is a little unfortunate as you cannot adjust any other frequencies for the speaker. I did find the ULT setting to provide the best overall sound though. There is only 1 ULT setting on the Field 3 compared to the Field 5 which has 2. The ULT setting extends the bass and gives a fuller mid-range. This speaker can get impressively loud for its size. Connecting the speaker through Bluetooth was easy and can be connected to 2 devices at the same time so you can switch between devices. I connected the speaker to my phone as well as a portable CD player and switching between devices was very easy to do. Sony claims 24 hours of battery life with the ULT function switched on and at level 22 for volume. At full volume with ULT on battery life is around 5 hours. I have used the speaker a couple hours a day for a week with no need to charge. You can get 2 hours of battery on a 10-minute charge. Unlike the Field 5 the 3 does not have a light feature so it does not effect the battery life. Charging is via USB-C and unlike last years XE series speakers the Field 3 can also be used as a power bank to charge your phone. The charging port is on the back of the speaker that has a flap to seal the ports. In addition to the charging port there is a battery button that when pressed allows the speaker to tell you how much charge the battery has and you can long press to put it in battery care mode which limits the amount of charge the battery takes in order to extend the life of the battery. On the top of the speaker is the power button, a Bluetooth connect button, a connect button for pairing multiple speakers in party mode, a play/pause button with a phone connect feature for answering calls, volume up and down and the ULT button. Sony claims you can connect up to 100 similar speakers in party mode or have 2 speakers in stereo mode. I have been comparing this speaker to my Sony XG300 that Sony claims can be paired in party mode with the Field 3 however Sony has 2 different apps The Music Center app that the XG300 connects to and the new Sound Connect app that the Field 3 connects to. Unfortunately, these 2 apps don’t talk to each other so getting the Field 3 and XG300 to connect was not very easy to do as you have to go through a manual process to pair them. I did manage to get them to pair but it would be a lot easier if they both could be set up in the same app so you could pair them in the app. All design and features aside how does the speaker sound? I have several higher end Bluetooth speakers that I compared this to, and I must say this is one impressive speaker. The soundstage is good, the tonal quality of the speaker is excellent even at higher volumes. The highs are detailed and do not distort at higher volumes like the XE series speakers tended to do. The bass is impressive given the size of this speaker. To get the best bass output you do need to use the ULT feature as the EQ in the app just doesn’t provide the same level of performance. Of all the speakers I compared it to the only one that I felt performed slightly better was the Sony XG300 which is larger and heavier than the Field 3. For day to day use around the house and outside I think I will be choosing the Field 3. There is a lot of competition in this price range for Bluetooth speakers but I would highly recommend checking out the Sony ULT Field 3 and compare it to other offerings out there. Depending on your listening preferences and the type of sound signature you prefer I think you will be surprised at how much this speaker has to offer.

Too much bass?
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The speaker packs a punch when it comes to bass quality and audio consistency. I love the shoulder strap, the Bluetooth technology that allows me to connect to more than one device, effortless syncing abilities, water and dust resistance, and ease of portability. The sound quality of the speaker is crisp and loud enough to entertain a very large room by itself. However, it can Bluetooth to other speakers. I have a concern with how much focus this speaker is having on its heavy bass feature. The standard mode has very impressive bass quality, but there is a mode to enhance the bass even further. This in question drowns out the actual music. Also, it'll take some testing but I'm not sure how long the shelf life of the battery will be. The initial full charge lasts 10+ hours. With proper maintenance and care, hopefully the battery will hold a charge for an average of 8 to 10 hours. First impressions. I'm very satisfied with the design. expect to use this speaker in several social situations.

Big bass out of a little box!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been looking for a new Bluetooth wireless portable speaker that I could take outside for my upcoming summer parties on the patio. I wanted great sound with enough volume to be easily heard, some thumping bass, and good app to control it all. It also needed good battery life, be easy to pack around or throw into a beach bag and most importantly be able to stand up to the elements! SONY's new ULT FIELD 3 wireless portable speaker has ticked all the boxes for me! The unit has a quality feel about it. I am over the speakers that feel and look like a plastic brick! The Field 3 is wrapped in a tightly woven fabric that feels good to the touch and looks great too! The entire control panel features raised buttons that are rubber coated and include power on/off, Bluetooth pairing with a status light, play/pause, volume and of course a big ULT bass boost button! It is quite compact at 3.1 inches tall by 10.1 inches long. It is 4.5 inches deep and weighs only 3 pounds. The speaker includes a very nice adjustable nylon strap the attaches via a clever set of hidden connectors. This allows you to sling the unit over your shoulder if you wish. Portabilty is nice but no good if the speaker can't take a little abuse! When you examine it you will see that everything is protected by a rubber-like skin and even includes sealed covers over the charging port. SONY boasts an IP67 rating for the FIELD 3 meaning it is waterproof (up to 1 meter of immersion for 30 minutes), dustproof, rustproof(!) and shockproof. I inadvertantly tested that last attribute by accidentally dropping the speaker about 3 feet onto the floor - it didn't skip a beat and showed no damage! Battery life is good - SONY claims up to 24 hours on a full charge running the volume control at 50%. More impressive is the claim of gaining up to 2 hours of additional use with only a 10 minute charge! The unit also offers a Battery Care setting that allows you cap the recharging to 90% which should extend the lifetime of the lithium pack. Charging is via a standard USB-C port mounted behind a sealed cap on the rear of the unit. A charging cable is included in the box but you'll have to provide your own wall wart. How about the sound? It's really pretty good. The speaker sports a two-way active design sporting a forward firing .7 inch tweeter and a 3.3 inch woofer with 2 side-mounted passive radiators. The radiators are very effective. They are exposed and you can actually watch their travel when they are operating. There is plenty of volume although the sound can get a little strained with the volume maxed out. These products are intented to feature bass and they don't disappoint. However, I found the midrange to be a little thin. Fortunately the SONY Sound Connect App offers a 7 channel equalizer that allows you to fill in some of that gap. There is even a feature that allows you to connect multiple ULT speakers together to act as a stereo pair or even a multi-room solution! Unfortunately I only have a single unit right now but maybe my next purchase.... (very clever marketing, SONY!) The speaker also includes a very effective built-in microphone that can be used not only for speaker-phone functionality but also is used for what SONY calls Sound Field Optimization which provides some dynamic volume adjustment to accommodate noisy environments. In summary - I am pretty happy with my new speaker and suggest that you consider the ULT product line if you're in the market!

Not loud enough outside
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The speaker sounds great when indoors. I’m a mail man and was hoping for more sound but when I had the speaker in the truck it wasn’t loud enough with the fan and loud vehicle. Wish it was louder. The next size was too big but I guess that’s what I need to get.

Excellent product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bluetooth speakers have become a dime a dozen but Sony has hit it out of park with this speaker series, I could rattle of specs but bottom line at sale price of 149 there is no better well rounded speaker for sound output, portability, and battery life. Buy 2 as a stereo pair and at 300$ better value and better sound than any single Bluetooth speaker in that price range. Excellent bass and plays loud and clear. Versatile, well made and excellent sound. Imo best value in market all things considered for single unit or stereo pair.

We purchased two of these speakers.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased two of these Sony speakers to connect them together. We have used them at least 10 times and every single time it takes at least 5-10 times trying to get them to connect together. Let’s just say we are full frustrated, aggravated, annoyed! If you are just buying to listen to just one they are ok. Definitely not to combine them together. Sony get it together please! It’s annoying wanting to listen to music to relax but are so frustrated thanks Sony!

Posted .Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for your honest feedback on the SRS-ULT30, JesusC. We're glad to hear you like the speaker and its overall sound quality. The SRS-ULT30 is part of the ULT POWER SOUND series, which is designed to deliver powerful bass and an open sound profile for an immersive listening experience.
We understand your comments about the bass sometimes feeling excessive and reaching the speaker's limits. The ULT30 features a tuning focused on delivering impactful bass, and some music genres or settings can emphasize this further. Compared to the ULT 1, the ULT30 offers a similar speaker setup but is tuned for a more open and room-filling sound, while maintaining that signature deep bass. We appreciate feedback like yours, as it helps us continuously improve our products to meet the diverse preferences of our listeners.
If you ever prefer a more balanced sound or wish to adjust the bass, consider experimenting with the settings via your device's equalizer or Sony's sound adjustment apps, which can help tailor the audio to your taste.
Thank you again for choosing Sony and taking the time to provide your perspective.
Best regards,

Sony created a beast!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony has repeatedly impressed me with their Bluetooth speakers in the last couple of years, and this new ULT Field 3 Model is definitely no different. From the first minute I connected my phone to it and started playing a song, I fell in love with it! The Bluetooth connection was very quick and easy, and the Sony Sound connect app is great as well. The speaker sounded amazing right out of the box but having the app available to fine tune the sound, among tweaking many other items, is great. I am someone who cannot listen to music if it is coming out of a poor sounding speaker, especially if it is lacking bass. This speaker is so great with base I struggle to even put it into words. When I pressed that ULT button for the first time I was genuinely shocked at the sound quality and the punch that was coming out of a speaker this size. If you consider yourself an audiophile in any way, you will not be disappointed with this speaker. This is the first speaker I've had that has the option of a shoulder strap and it has already come in handy, the size and profile of this speaker is the perfect size to pack in the suitcase and I can already see myself carrying this out to the beach or pool this summer. Perfect to go along with long days like that will be the impressive 24 hour battery life and quick charge function. Also going along with that, realizing this really is the perfect pool and beach speaker, will be the IP67 waterproof and dust proof feature. No matter how careful you are with electronics, mistakes still happen and having that safety net is appreciated. Overall this speaker is a 10/10 and Sony did an excellent job with it.

Great little speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Interesting little speaker. Packaging was kinda over the top but hey, it's Sony. So it has a few Pro's and Con's. Here are a few of my Pro's. It is lightweight compared to most of the others in its class. I like the cloth cover instead of the metal or plastic that is on most speakers. Sounds pretty good. Played some jazz, country, r&b from the 90's and some metal. It seemed to really like the metal without using any EQ settings right out the box. The rest needed some tweaking with the EQ. It feels durable but I wasn't going to test the floating ability, I will probably get to it once the pool opens up and give it a whirl next to it wile I clean the pool. The included straps were a great bonus. Wish more vendors included one especially the way they implemented it on this speaker (easy to put on and take off). The last Pro but is a pretty good one is the battery. Running it for about two days straight after charging it which only took about 40 minutes out the box.I had it connected to one of my tablets and let it play music for a few days until it turned off from the battery running out. Once I got the software installed and running it turned off the battery care at first and then after the first power cycle I turned that feature (Battery Care) on and it went for about 4 days before it got to around 20 percent battery left. Truly impressed wit what Sony did with the battery technology. Automatic update was turned on immediately. Now for the Con's. One big one is the software. It installed and ran just fine on my Android phone but when it came to my iPhone, oh boy. Was not pleased at all. Usually it's the other way around but this was a pain on the rear for about two days. Way too many install, uninstalls to get the software to work in iOS. That is pretty much the only Con I have. Reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Would I recommend this speaker, yes. I think it should be a little lower in price but hey when you buy a Sony product you know you are going to pay a slight premium for it.

Convenient for travel, loud enough for groups
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.New upgraded line of Sony speakers, with the ULT 3 being in the middle of the series as far as size goes. The ULT 3 was clearly intended to be taken around, as the casing has built in strap connections for you to attach a shoulder strap. When the strap is not in use/unattached, the attachment points hide away flush into the body of the speaker. Volume is plenty loud, but if you activate the ULT button the speaker automatically boosts the bass EQ. Battery life is rated for up to 24 hours, but only reaches 5 hours if using at maximum volume output. The speaker itself is rectangular, and can be stood in vertical or horizontal orientation depending on your needs. If you invest into the ULT sound ecosystem, one cool feature is Party Connect mode which daisy chains multiple ULT speakers to create stereo surround sound. With its form factor, Sony foresaw its use as a beach/pool/camp speaker, and the ULT 3 has a robust IP67 rating meaning it is dust-tight and can withstand submersion in water up to 1 meter deep for up to 30 minutes

Posted .Hi BenjaminC,
Thanks for the feedback on your ULT FIELD 3. We really appreciate you taking the time to let us know how it's performing for you.
We're genuinely sorry to hear that the bass didn't hit the mark, especially since we know how important that punchy sound is when you're investing in a new speaker.
To get that deeper punch, try pressing the ULT button on the side of the speaker; it switches between two different bass modes that usually do the trick. If that still isn't enough, you can use the Sony | Music Center app on your phone to manually turn up the Clear Bass settings.
Thanks for considering Sony and sharing your feedback.

Truly and Everywhere Speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony ULT Field 3 portable speaker is an excellent, versatile, go anywhere speaker. This is part of the new Sony ULT power sound series of speakers. The speakers in this series have an ULT button that enhances deep, low frequency base for a much bigger kick. This sounds great, without distorting the sound that I can hear. This really is a great go anywhere speaker, it's especially perfect for the lake, kayaking, fishing, etc. It is ip67 water and dust proof, and it's even saltwater resistant, meaning it's great from the pool to the ocean Beach. The shoulder strap is great if you are using it for hiking or biking, as it makes it easy to keep close to your person and access, without getting in the way. 10 minutes of charging will give you at least 90 minutes of music, and on a full charge, the speaker will go for 24 hours. You can also run it while plugged in at home to ensure you always have a charge. This is a sleek, stylish speaker with big enough sound for a large outdoor party, but quality enough sound for indoor use.
