Sony makes a great product that seems very well developed and well built. The new ULT Field 5 speaker lives up to the Sony name. Everything on this speaker seems very well thought out and executed.
When I received the speaker, I thought it was going to be much larger and heavier, thankfully I was very wrong. For being a larger speaker, it is still pretty compact and is pretty light. The included strap is perfect for carrying the speaker around. I wore on my shoulder for an hour or so and the weight didn't bother me. I like the fact it's just an oval shaped tube, no hard corners, and comfortable to carry around. The plastic ends seem to be made of durable rubber/plastic, meaning it could handle bumps and drops without damaging the unit. The mesh over the speaker did not snag on items and seems very durable. I received the white version and while it is white, it has more of grayish white color instead of being stark white. I really like the color and the white really lets the party lights shine. I can see the white getting dirty quicker, but I still would prefer the white color.
I had already downloaded the app for a pair of Sony headphones. The app was able to quickly find this speaker, but it took a pretty long time for it to add it to my devices. At one point I thought the app froze, but it really just needed time. So, I would recommend when it is saying that it's adding the device and it will take a moment to just walk away and let it do its thing. Once added there was an update that I completed before using the device.
The app has different equalizer settings, light settings, etc. I also found a battery saver setting. In this setting the device is limited to a 90% charge rate to help maintain the health of your battery. There are also some DJ settings which allow you to add sound affects to your music. I found the sounds to just be annoying and not something I would ever use. The party lighting is a nice feature but isn't super bright in daylight but does look great in low light/dark settings.
I struggled a little with the sound quality of this speaker. The device at max volume is very loud but still very clear to the ear. I found that I had to use ULT setting 2 to get the best sound setting, unless I wanted to play with the equalizer. ULT setting 1 sounded a little muffled to me and ULT 2 made everything bright and clear. When listening at lower volume the device was a little lacking to me. The sound was fine but not great, I have had many Bluetooth speakers and my other ones at lower volume levels provided better sound. This Sony at lower volume 10-30%, just sound like all the sounds were not in sync and sort of muddled. If your plan is to use this for outdoors, large groups, etc, then this speaker will be great. If you plan to use this in a small space at lower volume levels I would maybe consider something else.
Sony makes great stuff and I'm happy to have this party speaker as part of my collection. It will work great for listening to music outside or even connecting to an outdoor projector for movies. Make sure to test it in all the different settings you plan to use it at to make sure it's a good fit for your use.

BOTTOM LINE: This Sony ULT Field 5 Wireless Portable Speaker is a compact sized speaker able to produce a full and wide sound stage audio experience. It can be pushed to extremely loud volumes indoors with respectable volumes outdoors. The “ULT2” feature is a powerful clean volume and bass boost that is hard to turn off once experienced. Excellent battery life, speakerphone capable, Sound Connect app for additional features, and IP67 waterproofing all add up to a well-designed system. The only negative is the so called “360° Party Lights” feature that in a single word is “pathetic” and just not worth engaging.
RATING: After using in assorted locations, at varying volumes levels, and tweaking with the application, this Sony Power Sound Series ULT Field 5 Speaker earned itself a sold 4-Star Rating losing one Star for the inclusion of lights that do not qualify for being labeled “Party Lights”.
TL; DR
OUTPUT: The somewhat compact sized speaker is a real wolf in sheep’s clothing. I was not expecting the amount of overall music projection. In my electric guitar world, we call this “Pushing Air” and is something that can not only be heard, but felt. Still shaking my head in amazement while putting a large smile on my face. All this detailed musical sound emanating from only 3 somewhat small drivers: one center firing 4.2” woofer, two passive bass side radiators, and two front round 1.8” tweeters. Sony designers deserve a “Tip of the Hat” for their engineering wizardry. And I can only imagine what two of these Field-5’s, used in Stereo Pair mode, would do for my already tinnitus’ized eardrums…
BATTERY: This speaker weighs in at almost 8 pounds, and no doubt the lion share of that weight is all rechargeable battery to obtain up to 25 hours of use or up to 10 hours with lighting on. A 10-minute charge can provide you up to 100 minutes of playtime; sweet! Note that being a sealed system, if/when the battery can no longer hold an acceptable charge, it renders this speaker to USB Adapter connectivity only duty.
STRAP: For my personal use, I have zero need for the long “shoulder strap” and would prefer a much shorter “carrying handle” option. But I was able to fold the excess strap into its mounting end brackets to facilitate a short carrying handle. Works, but just looks cheap. At the current MSRP, I believe Sony could have easily provided both long strap and short handle options.
SOUND CONNECT APP: I normally don’t bond with equipment requiring an application but will make an exception for the ULT-5. First, it self-initiated the firmware update immediately upon binding the speaker with internet connectivity. The app has an assortment of additional useful features. The Custom EQ 10-band equalizer is a nice touch and light-years ahead of the typical 3-band EQ options on other sound devices. (Note that your EQ settings are disabled in ULT1 or ULT2 modes.) System settings include Auto Standby, Battery Care, Bluetooth or Audio In selections, Bluetooth Standby, Sound Field Optimization, and Stamina to name a few. There is a DJ option that is fun to play with once, but doubtful I would use it again.
PARTY LIGHTS? The “Party Light” feature is impossible to experience with any lights on in the room with minimal effectiveness with lights off. Forget about outdoors in daylight. Note that Sony does also refer to the “Party Lights” as “Ambient Lighting” that is still somewhat of a stretch, but closer to a more accurate description. (My grandson’s bedroom “night-light” would give this system’s “ambient light” a run for its money.) Since using the lighting feature decreases overall maximum battery life from 25 to 10 hours, just leave it off. This was the only negative function I encountered of this otherwise superior Bluetooth speaker.
PRICE: I was initially completely turned off with what I consider an exorbitated MSRP for a speaker system in such a diminutive footprint with small sized drivers. But after 4 days of use I stand corrected, and apparently size doesn’t matter to Sony designers. You are investing in a compact and portable sound system of extraordinary sound quality that surpasses all visual size logic and aural expectations.

TLDR: Sony packs a lot of sound in a small package. Combining 2 tweeters, a mid-woofer, and 2 passive radiators, the ULT 5 has big sound.
PROS
ULT produces big, punchy sound
Higher bitrate LDAC support for Android devices
Easy to use Sony Connect App
CONS
Sony relabeled Mega-Bass to ULT
USE
The new ULT 5 speaker is an evolutionary step in Sony’s party speaker lineup. Sonically, it is almost identical to its predecessor, which I reviewed at an earlier date. Not that it is a bad thing. Sony changed the look and form factor while retaining what made the prior generation appealing.
The Sony Connect App has evolved over time and is quite easy to use and understand. It is your central interface for the ULT and prior generations. Firmware, lighting, DJ effects, equalizer, Bluetooth connections, and streaming services are readily available on 1 easy to understand screen. Even on a phone, the Connect App is simple and well laid out. Much easier than most of the competition.
I have complained in the past about Sony’s issue with what I refer to as digital hiss. Not being able to pinpoint the source (amp or Bluetooth) Sony speakers exhibited this trait while in standby or during quiet passages in or between songs. For a long time, I didn’t recommend their products because of this. I am happy to report that the issue has been resolved. The new ULT 5 doesn’t suffer from this issue like previous generations have been plagued with. Quiet passages and between tracks are now silent, just as they should be. Thank you for listening to my complaints Sony!
The Connect feature makes the ULT 5 easy to link to other Sony party speakers. With a simple button press, the ULT 5 can be synced with other Sony speakers making for a seamless listening experience. Numerous speakers can all be linked together to have music reproduction in perfect sync. It is slick and works extremely well, taking all the headaches out of trying to Bluetooth to multiple speakers at once.
The ULT 5 sports a generous sized battery, good for up to 25 hours of playback before charging. Even at moderate listening levels for several hours, the ULT 5 has barely come down in charge. 25 hours seems achievable. Additionally, the ULT 5 is also IP67 rated against dust and water infiltration. A must when you have a party speaker at the pool. You can take the ULT 5 with you wherever you go and not have to worry about running out of power or having water or other environmental elements ruin your fun.
NEGATIVES
I am thoroughly bummed that Sony has done away with Mega Bass. For decades, it has been a trademark of Sony products. MP3 players, speakers, even old Walkmans, CD players, etc. All had a Mega Bass function. It is synonymous with Sony. The ULT button on the ULT 5 does the EXACT same Mega Bass does, just now with a different name. It is a shame. The nostalgia is gone.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The Sony ULT Field 5 is a worthy upgrade to the Sony party speaker line. It has good sound, lasts up to 25 hours on a charge, and is IP67 rated against dust and water. Whether it be at the house, lake, pool, or backyard, the ULT 5 is a great option.
Easily connectable to other Sony party speakers should you need more sound and volume, the ULT 5 is fun speaker that should easily stand up to the rigors of a party environment.

Out of the box - It took me about 5 minutes to set up the Sony app and to get the speaker linked to my phone. The box lid had a QR code to scan which made navigating to the app and set up very easy. When I turned it on, the speaker had 60% battery life. It charges via a USB-C cord that came with it. Sony says it allows for up to 25hrs of play time on a single charge. While I have not tested it for 25 straight hours, I did have it on for 4 hours while painting my house and with the lights on and sound mode on Ult 2, it only reduced 17% in battery life. I thought that was impressive! On the back of the speaker, there is a USB-C port that allows you to charge your phone if needed which was a huge plus for me! I love an all in one unit.
This speaker has some weight to it. I was pretty surprised for its size but with the should strap, carrying it around was fairly easy. The lights have a few different modes which can be switched in the app or on the actual speaker there is a button that allows you to change how they appear. My favorite of the bunch were the wave effect and the beat effect. Having the party light feature just adds to the fun of the speaker but they also can be turned off to preserve battery life if needed.
Sound quality - the music and words were very clear and the bass, in different modes (Ult 1 and Ult 2), definitely changed in tone. I preferred the sound of Ult 2 for sure but during a gathering where the speaker would be on for a longer amount of time, I would most definitely use Ult 1 to preserve battery life. In the app, you can also customize the sound with the equalizer feature but that’s way above my head, so having the Ult 1 and Ult 2 modes work best for me.
When the music is playing, if you hit the Ult button it makes a noise which cuts out the music. This notification can be silenced in the app if it’s a bother but it lasts only a split second and your music is back to normal volume. This speaker has a IP67 rating making it waterproof and dustproof. I think overall that’s the ultimate feature to have for having a portable speaker by the pool or when outdoor in general. Nobody wants a speaker that you have to baby. This one allows you to be in any setting without worry of hurting it.
The Party Connect function is great! I have the Sony XV900 party speaker as well. With just a push of a button, I was able to connect them both and had the bigger, XV900 party speaker on one side of my deck and the Ult Field 5 speaker was approximately 22ft away. There was no sound quality loss, the words of the music were still very clear. Sony claims you can connect up to 100 of these speakers with party connect together. I cannot even imagine doing this, but man, I bet it would be so awesome! Haha. This will definitely be a great combo for us for our summer cookouts this year!
Over all, this speaker is a win for me. It has a great price point for the features offered and Sony makes good stuff. You can’t lose, just buy it!

The Sony ULT Field 5 portable bluetooth speaker has exceeded my expectations in build quality and sound quality. It's also very aesthetically well designed. I have owned many bluetooth speakers and I feel the size, sound, and quality of this speaker is the perfect balance. The lighting, although not something I was directly looking for in a speaker, is a nice addition.
Key Specs:
Dimensions: 12.6” x 5.67” x 4.92”
Weight: 7.28 lbs
Battery Life: Up to 25 hours ( has a 10 minute quick charge which provides approximately 100 minutes of playback)
Water/Dust Resistance: IP67 Rated
Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.3, AUX input, USB-C in/out
Speakers: 1 Woofer, 2 tweeters, 2 passive radiators
Sound Modes: ULT1 (deep bass), ULT2 (powerful bass), 10 band eq via Sony Sound Connect app.
My first impressions when I unboxed the unit was “Wow, this is bigger than I imagined it would be.” This is not a negative, I just wasn't expecting it to be as big as it is. It has quite a bit of weight to it as well. One thing that really stood out was the included shoulder strap. The buckles on the strap that you connect to the speaker are heavy duty metal. Like, really heavy duty. It may not seem important but what it did was highlight the quality of the materials. The speaker is wrapped in a very nice heavy duty fabric as well.
Setup and connectivity was simple. Power it on, press the bluetooth button to enter pairing mode and connect to the bluetooth device listed in your bluetooth device list. It was simple. You can also download the Sony Sound Connect App which offers some additional features and customization options including different lighting options and the 10 band equalizer The app is nice to have, easy to understand and navigate, and offers another method of adjusting settings on your speaker.
The sound quality is amazing. Both the ULT1 and ULT2 modes are great and depending on the type of bass you want, you have options. If you don't prefer the ULT modes, you can always customize your sound with the 10 band equalizer within the app. This speaker gets LOUD. But it gets loud with no distortion which is fantastic. This speaker puts out fantastic balanced sound that is loud enough to fill an area with quality sound pretty much anywhere.
I can say enough how beneficial the included strap is with the speaker. It's adjustable and gives you the ability to bring it anywhere, hang it pretty much anywhere, and is a perfect addition to keep the speaker ultra portable. I hang it in my 3 car garage when I’m in the garage working and it's such a perfect speaker for the space. I also like how you can either lay the speaker horizontally or vertically which opens up options if you're limited on space.
Battery life seems very good. I haven't had any concerns, even at fairly high volume and with the lighting effects on. I think that you could likely squeeze more battery life out of the unit if you turned the lighting effects off, which you can do. All in all, I have no complaints about the battery life and for my usage, I can go quite a while without needing to charge the speaker.
Overall I think this is a fantastic speaker and I am very impressed with the quality and sound projection. I almost forgot to mention that if you have two of these speakers, you can link them together in a stereo pair. I would highly recommend this speaker if you are looking for a speaker you can take pretty much anywhere and know it will be enough to not just fill your environment with sound, but fill it with quality sound.

It's difficult to stand out in the world of bluetooth speakers these days, there's many, they each have special features or are at a price point that makes them enticing even if they are barebones. Sony, however, has managed to make something a little interesting.
Packaging:
To start, packaging is relatively straightforward, that said, it's nice to see that the speaker itself is in a cloth bag inside, kind of a touch of class to the standard packing experience, no plastic wrap or anything. Minimal literature and a small box with the USB cord and shoulder strap.
Setup:
Turning it on and having it near your phone results in a popup asking to connect to it. Yes this isn't necessarily a new feature but it's one of those ones that makes something tend to stand out as being a little 'higher end' than your average bluetooth device. That said, I've struggled with those popups in the past on previous devices, so it remains to be seen if it repeatedly pops up for no reason on other nearby devices after it's already been paired to one.
As far as physicality, there is a flap on the back that covers the ports for charging and external audio input, nice to have especially if your source isn't bluetooth capable. It's the little extras that stand out on this.
Use:
Pairing is simple as stated, and once you get it rolling, the experience is nice. I will say the bass is a little heavy handed, though that can be toned down a little if you turn off the ULT button. Colorization moves with the music, equalizer and colors can be managed in the sound connect app, so all in all you can really customize this to an experience you prefer. It has faithful reproduction of sound with a little tiny bit of tweaking, and gets very very loud. I honestly have yet to run the battery down, that's how long it lasts, so you wont feel like you have to rush it to the outlet after every use.
The shoulder strap is interesting, it connects through little rubberized popouts in the top, likely to help maintain it's IP67 rating. The strap is nice because honestly it's reasonably heavy, and not only that, it's rounded everywhere, so there's no real great way to hold it if you dont intend to set it down.
Overall:
It's fun, gets super loud, the lighting is great, the equalizer settings are good. If you're in the market for a portable loud bluetooth speaker with some fun extras, it's definitely worth it.

For its size and specially paired with that cool strap, this new Sony ULT field 5 can turn up anywhere. Either you want to bring it for a work-out session or by the pool, for your outdoor cooking etc. This speaker it's easy to carry, it offers long lasting playing time (25hrs battery life) and can handle any room or situation.
I was impressed that for its rather small size this speaker comes in pretty hefty with an amazing powerful bass that can be turned off/ Ult1 / Ult2 (i personally like the Ult1 setting). The setting that i like and use the most **Ult1** offers a deep low frequencies and i don't even have to mess with any other adjustments since it works in any situation and outputs a clean sound!
I also like that you can lay it flat or make it stand and the colors are vibrant and add to the party atmosphere (i always keep them on they are very pleasant).
With a fast charging feature and an ip67 rating this speaker it's worry free that you'll run out of power or to make you nervous bring it some places. Ot can really follow you in any situation and entertain for an extended period of time.
The Connection it's Flawless every single time and the connect button let's you inter-connect multiple speakers, i still have to see that in action, but that it can be super cool for stereo applications or using it at home for multiple room play, it is a very good feature to have and will be useful in many situations.
I recommend downloading their SoundConnect app for a max experience and just go have some fun with it, it's a very capable little yet powerful speaker!

Today I offer my thoughts on the Sony ULT Field 5 Portable Speaker. I’ve used MANY portable speakers over the years – and the first thing you’ll notice on this one is the weight. It’s a beautifully compact and stylish design, but the magnets and battery (along with a quality build) definitely make this speaker solid and hefty!
I have a Sony ULT 7 speaker as well, which is a bit larger and even heavier – but this compact ULT Field 5 really produces a sound comparable to its bigger cousin. The Field 5 has a dedicated Connect button making it easier to pair with other compatible Sony speakers and unfortunately the ULT 7 doesn’t have this button and I couldn’t get the two to pair together for Party Connect. In the past I’ve used Party Connect with other Sony speakers and it was also a bit flaky to connect up. This is the main reason for the loss of a rating star.
Sound wise, this compact speaker really packs a punch. With two bass modes ULT1 for rich bass sounds and ULT2 for more aggressive, punchy bass, you’re able to switch to your personal preferences easily or just change it with the music!
The Sony Sound Connect app is your gateway to more settings – like controlling the lights, updating the speaker’s software, access to a customizable equalizer and more. Definitely a must have for better control of the speaker.
Built with an IP67 environmental rating, you don’t need to work about taking your speaker to the pool, beach, lake or camping. It’s even saltwater resistant – so just carefully rinse it off if the tide comes in to quick and surprises you.
A decent battery life of 25 hours is touted, but that depends on your sound levels, light usage, etc. If you run out – just a 10 minute quick charge can give you another 100 minutes of play time.
Overall – I like it. It’s smaller size and weight will make this my go to campfire speaker. Probably a little to big and heavy to take on a plane, but if I’m driving to a vacation – this is coming with!

This speaker is absolutely wonderful. It can be used in both small places and even large gyms and spaces. It has extraordinary sound and even multicolored lights. My only warning to others is that it is pretty heavy compared to other small speakers that I have had and I usually have other equipment. I’m carrying with it, it definitely is better than a giant Speaker so it carries the same function so that is wonderful but if you are carrying it on a daily basis to and from classes or events it just is a little heavy. I also tried many of the other lighter ones and they do not carry the same volume. Newer cover the same square footage for sound as this speaker. Oh also the battery life is pretty amazing. I haven’t seen it ever get close, but it has 25 or so hours of playtime depending on what you’re doing with it.
Thank you for sharing such a detailed and enthusiastic 5-star review of the ULT FIELD 5! We're thrilled to hear you find the speaker absolutely wonderful and appreciate the extraordinary sound quality. It's fantastic that you found the perfect balance between volume and coverage, proving its capability in everything from small spaces to large gyms.
Your feedback on the weight is valuable and completely understood. As you noted, the robust performance and extended 25-hour battery life require premium components, making it a powerful solution that successfully replaces much larger equipment. We designed the ULT FIELD 5 to offer that large-speaker function in a portable package, and we're delighted to know it's a superior choice for your needs.
Thanks for choosing Sony and enjoy the music!

[PROS]
Gets Loud: A portable speaker this size needs to get loud, and the ULT FIELD 5 definitely does that. I've found myself using the massive speaker on the outside patio and in the homes of friends. It gets the job done in making sure everyone can hear everything.
Considerate Design: The speaker is large as intended, but very portable because of the included strap. It includes the basic ports, but the USB C port can also charge other devices as well. Furthermore, there's a shield protecting the inputs and buttons which comes in handy for places like the beach or park. Finally, the IP67 adds to the durability for dust and rain (although I'm highly unlikely to keep the party going if it starts to pour).
Easy of Use: Everything that I desire to accomplish with this speaker is pretty straightforward. I was able to tweak EQ settings, adjust lighting effects, and update firmware without any hiccups. The Sony Sound Connect app is lightweight and simple to use.
[CONS]
Flat Sound Profile (Out of the box): My biggest critique of this device is that I feel like EQ adjustments are necessary. This doesn't apply to all genres. However, the bass is dependent on the ULT modes, specifically ULT 2. Otherwise, the speaker is not as punchy. In my opinion, the ULT modes make everything sound better so I usually just default to using it instead of fiddling with settings.
[CONCLUSION]
The ULT FIELD 5 is a well rounded speaker for my needs. It's loud, entertaining, portable, and pleasant to use. It's become a party favorite in my household, and I look forward to much more future usage out of it.

I bought two of these Sony speakers and they exceeded my expectations. The sound is crystal clear with rich bass, and pairing them for stereo mode creates an amazing immersive experience. Bluetooth connects instantly, battery easily lasts a full day, and the water-resistant design makes them perfect for outdoor trips. Great sound, really fills the room. Super easy to connect to my iPhone. Purchased on sale and with some reward certificates. So it was about $150 for the purchase. Wouldn’t pay $349 for this it Bose(because someone is going to say Bose is better-I like Sony products). If you can get it while it’s on sale for $198 (or less). Then I definitely recommend this speaker. As far as the battery life, I haven’t had it long enough to comment. I am going to give a 5 below just because I didn’t have to charge it out of the box…it was already at 60%.
Thank you for the fantastic review, Bestbuyshopper!
We’re thrilled to hear that the ULT FIELD 5 is filling your room with great sound! It’s awesome that you were able to stack those sale prices and reward certificates to snag such an incredible deal—getting that much power for $150 is a total win. We also love that you were able to jump straight into the music with that 60% charge right out of the box!
We appreciate your loyalty to Sony products and your recommendation to others to keep an eye out for those great sales. Enjoy that deep bass!

Looking for a new Bluetooth speaker with good bass sound. I have owned UE Wonderboom 3 for a long while. Thought I was going to be purchasing a JBL until I heard this Sony speaker on display. It sounded way better than JBL. The Sony sound was clear and there are two bass boosts modes to choose from. I listen to both heavy metal and rap music. Glad I chose the Sony, great sound and awesome battery life. It is on the heavy side and there are not many choices for a travel case since it was just released recently.
Thank you for sharing your experience with the Sony SRS-ULT50, DJjoe! It’s great to hear that the speaker’s impressive bass, clear sound quality, and the option of two distinct bass boost modes made a noticeable difference for your music tastes, especially with genres like heavy metal and rap. Your comparison to other popular speakers, such as the UE Wonderboom 3 and JBL models, provides valuable insight for anyone weighing their options.
The long battery life is a standout feature, particularly for those who value extended listening without frequent recharging. As you pointed out, the SRS-ULT50’s robust build comes with a bit of extra weight, which may affect portability for some users. The limited availability of travel cases is a common situation with newly released products, but as the speaker gains popularity, more third-party accessories are likely to become available.
Thanks for choosing Sony!

Picked this up for a price I had to read multiple times to confirm. Great price (at least at the time of purchase). Loud, clear sound. Deep bass. Lights are a nice touch. The strap helps with portability, as this thing is a mini beast. Really happy with my purchase.
It's truly wonderful to hear that your SRSULT50 has lived up to your expectations with its loud, clear sound, deep bass, and attractive lighting features. We’re glad you appreciated the affordability and portability, especially with the strap that makes it easy to take on the go. Your positive experience with the product is genuinely appreciated, and we’re so pleased it has brought you enjoyment.

Excellent battery life. Painless set up and easy connection. I was on the market for a portable speaker for entertaining company and my home gym. The speaker I thought i was getting was a little cheaper and a lot bigger. The sound quality of this little guy was on par with anything in and around its price point (at least) and the portablitily and practical design made it a no-brainer purchase.
It brings us great joy to hear that the ULT FIELD 5 has become your go-to companion for both entertaining and your home gym! We are thrilled that the portable design and effortless setup made it a clear choice for you, especially knowing the sound quality stands strong alongside the competition.

Alright, so first off—this thing is huge. I wasn’t expecting the Sony ULT FIELD 5 to be the size of a loaf of Texas sized bread. Not a bad thing, just caught me off guard having ordered sight unseen. It’s got a little weight to it too, but nothing crazy. Feels solid and tough, like it can take a few bumps without worry. Definitely built for the outdoors.
I went with the white one since I plan to use it mostly by the pool. Looks sharp and clean, but if you’re taking it to the lake or beach, I’d probably lean toward the black version. The fabric seems like it’ll clean off okay, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it picked up some stains over time.
Getting it set up was easy. Just powered it on, paired through Bluetooth, and I was good to go. But if you want to really mess with the settings, you’ll want the Sony Sound Connect app. There’s an update right away, and then all sorts of stuff opens up—most of which I’ll probably never use (DJ mode? Nah). What I did like was messing with the party light colors. The controls for that are kinda buried in weird spots in the app, but once you find 'em, it’s cool. I’m not big on all the flashy color changing stuff, but I found a mellow setting where you can just pick one color and it pulses with the music. Pretty slick.
Now, the sound? It’s absolutely killer. I listen to a lot of stuff that isn’t real bass-heavy, and it still blew me away. I had Gary Louris crooning at full blast, and it was crystal clear. That ULT button mode gives the sound a nice punch to it without things getting muddy.
Originally, I figured I’d use it outside or maybe in the garage, but I ended up bringing it inside and plugging it into my gym setup with a 3.5mm Airplay adapter. The AUX-in worked great, though there’s a slight delay when trying to sync it with other speakers over my home network. Would’ve been nice if Sony built in some kind of WiFi or AirPlay support. At this price, it’s definitely nice enough to use indoors, and I just wish the integration was a little better.
One thing I really appreciate is being able to charge my iPhone right off the speaker with USB-C. Super handy, especially outside when you don’t wanna burn through your phone battery streaming music.
Bottom line? This thing rocks. It sounds amazing, looks sharp, and feels like it can go just about anywhere. The lack of networking is the only real miss for me, but otherwise, I’m seriously impressed. Gonna be using this a ton this summer.

Excellent sound quality and worth the price if you can afford it it can be a bit heavy at times and I'm glad that they added the carrying strap with this model and the Bluetooth range is amazing I can walk across an entire factory warehouse building with my phone and it continues to play no matter where I am in the facility so if you're looking for a strong connection this definitely blew my expectations out of the water

Sony ULT Field 5 Bluetooth Speaker – Quick Review
The Sony ULT Field 5 packs serious bass and bold sound, especially in ULT 2 mode, making it great for outdoor parties and casual listening. While it may not offer the most refined audio compared to higher-end speakers, it delivers a fun, bass-heavy experience that suits its purpose well—especially when on sale.
With features like a 360° Party Light, Party Connect (link up to 100 speakers), IP67 waterproof rating, and up to 25-hour battery life, it’s built for portability and fun. The sound is punchy, though some may find the EQ limitations on ULT modes and its weight a downside.
If you’re after pristine audio fidelity, there are better-sounding speakers out there. But for what the ULT Field 5 is meant to do—loud, rugged, portable fun—it’s a solid choice at the right price.
