I am so loving my new speaker. I went to the store with the intention of buying another favorable brand, but was very impressed with the ULT speaker.

This SONY Ult Field 7 speaker is by far the best personal Bluetooth speaker I've heard yet; in our house, it filled a large room with sound, and by that, I mean I felt like I was at a professional music performance (I tested primarily by streaming YouTube Music (subscription). There are two ULT sound modes, and my personal preference is the 2nd setting, where you get that punch of the bass -- you feel when the bass hits. The “up to 30-hour battery life” seems to be around the same as other SONY Bluetooth speakers I’ve owned (but this battery is powering a much more powerful speaker), and essentially, I will almost never have to worry about running out of power. If it does run out of power, just 10 minutes of charging gives up to 3 hours of play – plus I can always use it plugged in if I need to. It's larger than any other Bluetooth speaker I’ve owned, but at the same time, it's relatively lightweight and easy to move around and has convenient well-placed handles to lift it with. It also looks fantastic with the color-changing lights around the ends and the Ult light, which also changes colors. Being water resistant (including salt water, if I bring it to a beach – I live on an Island), dustproof, and rustproof, I know that this device is meant to be durable and last anywhere I might bring it, so I can enjoy using it without worry. You can also pair this with other SONY speakers using their Music Center app, which is great If you have multiple SONY speakers. If it’s in your budget, this is a nice speaker, and I would recommend it.

Didn't have good sounds coming out of the speakers maybe it's was inside the store when it sound loud but I just kept it because I payed for it

If you are the kind of person who likes to take their party music with them, be it the beach, the pool or the campground, Sony's new ULT Field 7 bluetooth speaker may be just the ticket. Portability and resistance to the elements seems to be driving force behind the design of this particular model -- Rather than the best sound quality. Oh sure, the ULT Field 7 gets plenty loud and has plenty of bass. So much bass in fact that Sony now has two different bass boost levels, or ULT levels as they are now called (the old Megabass terminology is gone). ULT 1 is for a deep bass. ULT 2 is more of an overall sound boost that Sony calls "power" bass Unfortunately, the overall sound quality, regardless of setting, is a bit lacking in my view. Too much emphasis on the high and low frequencies, not enough on the mids, which rusults in a very unbalanced, somewhat thin sound. Which perhaps does not matter much of you are just blasting bass-heavy rap music at a pool party. But for serious music listeners, the ULT Field 7 should not be your first choice. I say that as someone who has one of Sony's earlier generation party-type bluetooth speakers, which although similar in size, sounds much, much better (and costs less) . Much deeper, punchier bass, and overall sound quality that is much more balanced and pleasing to the ear. The good news here is that if you have two compatible Sony bluetooth speakers , you can combine them using company's "Party Connect" feature (via the Sony Music Center app). This not only gives you a much wider sound field, it helps overcome the deficiences in the ULT Field 7 and generate a really big improved sound. Otherwise, as mentioned earlier, the ULT Field 7 is best for going on the road and shaking off the kind of environmental challenges that might doom a lesser speaker. Sony says it's waterproof, rustproof and dustproof so fine even for the beach, where blowing sand and salt water would normally wreak havoc. (IP67 rating for all you nerds out there) And if your beach party is at night, the ULT Field 7 also provides an impressive light show, with multi colored internal LEDs that flash with the beat of the music. (Many patterns available via he app) Unlike earlier Sony speakers, these are largely out of sight in daylight. Well, you can see them if you are looking directly at the end-mounted passive woofers, since the lights are behind them. But the normal listening position makes them mostly invisible. The round, tube like ULT Field 7 is designed so you can set it on its end or horizontally, like a soundbar. But I think it sounds best in the horizontal position, with the added bonus of the controls being more accessible and visible, right on top, instead of along the side. Because it is designed to be portable, Sony has kept the weight down on the ULT Field 7... just 14 pounds (that may sound like a lot but other models are heavier) . Carrying it is a breeze too since nice comfortable handles are built into each end. Once fully charged (AC cord provided), the ULT Field 7 can run up to 30 hours. And can keep you abreast of charge level with voice prompts, which tell you battery state and bluetooth status every time you turn it on. (This feature is off by default but can be turned on via the app.) What's more, you can use this speaker for more than just streaming music from your phone or tablet. There's a USB A port inside if you want to play music from a thumb drive (a very short one, so the waterproof rubberized door can be closed) . And there's a standard phono jack with independent volume control so the speaker can operate as both a PA system or even a guitar amplifier. I was a bit skeptical of that but plugged in my electric guitar and it worked surprsingly well. (Oddly it sounded best with the "guitar" button turned off.) It lacks of the sound shaping capabilities of a normal amp but sounded quite good. Speaking of sound shaping, your options there are somewhat limited. You have the two bass boost options as well as ULT OFF and a seven band equalizer for a custom sound. (It cannot be used if ULT modes are on). The two ULT modes sounded best to me. This speaker is pretty pricey, but if you need a music machine that has the portability, weather resistance and versatility the ULT Field 7 offers, this is a pretty hard combination to beat this one.
