The Sony ULT Field 7 is a beast of a speaker. This speaker was designed for bass lovers and does that job extremely well. On a press of a button, you get two types of bass that either produces low frequencies clearly or gives you that punch that you want when listening to things like hip hop. There is also a feature to customize it to your liking with EQ on the app. Even though Sony is marketing this as a bass lover portable speaker, the mid and high frequencies feel like a breath of fresh air. Most bassy speakers have the mids and trebles muffled a bit to emphasize the bass but not with this Sony ULT 7. Mids and Highs sound like if the singer was able to sing freely. Its hard to explain it without comparing speakers but it just feels like the mids and lows are bright and not held back. The genius feature of this speaker is that you can stand it on its side which takes less floor space when in use with absolutely no sound loss. The LED lighting makes this an attractive piece of furniture in your house when active. The biggest surprise of this speaker is the ability to connect a microphone or guitar to this speaker to use it as a PA system. It has a 1/4 inch input for your microphone or guitar, and has a 3.5mm input if you want to connect an audio source. Not many speakers of this size has those connection features. The Karaoke game has changed with this speaker release. Battery life is also impressive. It is rated 30 hours and I have left my Spotify playlists lapse many times and still have enough battery to continue. With the quick charge feature, plug it into the wall for 10 minutes and you get another 3 hours of playback which means this speaker will be on all the time everywhere. Speaking of everywhere, Sony claims that this speaker is IP67 rated which means it is water resistant, and rust proof. having knocked over a glass of water on this speaker, just wipe it up and go. This makes this speaker a great thing to take with you everywhere. There are only two negatives that I could come up with this speaker. If you own other Sony sound products, it seems like Sony develops an app per speaker. If you have Sony earbuds, there's a separate app for that. You have Sony headphones, there is an app for that. With this speaker, you need the Sony Music App. It would of been cleaner if everything Sony sound-wise is contained in a single streamlined app. In addition, for a speaker of this price point, it would have been nice if it was integrated with Amazon Alexa or Google Home. That way if you are connected to Wi-Fi, you can have your favorite assistant play music atomically without being paired to a mobile device. Besides those two issues, this speaker is just a pleasure to use, hear, and carry around places because it was designed to be large and small at the same time.

The base to much with no control. On higher volumes - not all the way, it is distorted. It only sounds good a low volumes (rear exceptions were the source is near absent of base). I will never even try the base “booster”.

It wasn’t very loud and didn’t have much base in the music sounded much better in the star. I was unpleasantly surprised.

Sound is a little more high pitch than most sonys Sounds more like JBL.

This is one powerfully robust speaker. It is huge and there is no mistake here - this thing pumps out sound and bass in its "portable" character. This is not for those wanting perfect sound reproduction but rather for people who love bass and loud base with the ability to do so on battery for a dance on the beach or outside. This also has various lights to make it look cool especially in the dark. I've used other Sony bluetooth speakers so I know the durability of these units. What I did not like and this is not specific to Sony is the awful directions that are once again printed on a large sheet of paper in multifolds to make it appear small to fit into a small packet. As someone who needs to wear glasses to read, the instructions were useless to me. I simply could not read what was printed. As I have used Sony bluetooth speakers before I just followed how I used the other ones and this connected to a TV and then to my phone with relative ease. You can download an app for this (like everything these days), but I am growing tired of needing such to get the benefits of a product. This thing worked fine for playing music loud enough to make me cringe that the neighbors might come knocking on my door. You cannot go wrong with Sony and bluetooth speakers and this should provide loud and impressive bass sounds for your dances and parties. This was designed to get attention and it certainly nails that goal.

I am really impressed by the features that were put into this party speaker. 1/8" jack input for Guitar/Microphone is awesome, backyard karaoke with the kids was fun. Used it mostly with Bluetooth, but old school 1/8" jack input worked, as did the USB-A connection, which is a nice feature to have. Very portable, a bit heavy, but in a good way, end rings act as handles. It gets plenty loud for a living room, den, deck, or backyard. The ULT modes give you noticeable differences in the Bass especially, and I like how the ULT button lights up in synch with the other lights. Battery life is stated as up to 30 hours, but I used mine very loud and with light effects on all the time, and got around maybe 7 hours use out of a full charge over 4 days. I'm happy with that. Downloading the app is necessary to adjust the equalizer manually. I like that once it had Bluetooth permission, the app found the speaker and connected up in a flash, no handholding necessary. The light effects via the app are fairly basic, but I liked the default lighting effect that it starts up with the best. It is extremely round, so it will roll off wherever, so it's best to stand it up on one end or loop the handle with a bungie cord to add stability if on an uneven surface. I really recommend this for a versatile party / karaoke mic speaker for on the go and at home, practice speaker for guitar is a bonus.

Look, I love Sony electronics. I've been a die hard Sony fan since my first Vaio and Trinitron, and I've had several Sony bluetooth speakers in the past. But nothing prepared me for seeing and firing up the ULT 7 speaker. Let's get the obvious out of the way, this thing is massive. When standing on its end, I'd say it's like 2 feet tall and between 15-20 pounds. The fact that Sony calls this a "portable" is factually accurate. The rings on either end are of sturdy construction and you can lift this up and move around. This is not the kind of speaker that's meant for grab-n-go. You bring this thing when you want to host a block party or something. According to Sony, a 10-minute charge gives you 3 hours of music, while a fully charged battery can last for up to 30 hours. That's a lot of music! I assume your mileage may vary depending on volume and if you've got the ULT sound setting on or not. Speaking of ULT, there's a toggle to engage the ULT bass mode which I highly recommend you leave on at all times. With it off, the speaker still sounds loud and great, but when ULT is engaged, there's a whole other world of bass that gets added. There's 2 modes for the ULT setting, ULT-1 and ULT-2... I recommend ULT-2 for deep, powerful sound. The ULT 7's only wireless mode is Bluetooth. Sadly, there's no AirPlay option here, but there's a whole host of connection options and settings between the back of the ULT speaker and through Sony's Music Control app. The back sports inputs for: - Mic / Guitar jack with level control dial - 3.5 Aux line-in jack - USB-A port with 5v passthrough power In addition to those options, you can also control the key, make the sound sharper or flatter. There's also an Echo button to add some cool effects and manual buttons for Battery life management and toggling the lights on and off. You can also control all of these same settings with the Sony Music app. Finally, this thing is made to move and be moved. The ULT 7 is waterproof, dustproof, and even rustproof - so you can rock out at the beach without a worry. Sadly, I live in Texas, and not by the beach, so no beach jamming for me, at least not yet!

It didn't have the bass we was expecting to have from a top of the line sony

This is a unique design for a portable speaker from Sony. The choices made for this speaker really makes it usable for nearly any situation. However, after using it in many different environments, it does seem to excel more in an open space. For a portable speaker, it is very easy to carry. There are convenient handles on either sides, and it is able to be used standing upright or placed down on its side. However, speaking from a practical point of view for best sound, having it on its side is the best configuration. The unit feels very rugged and built to withstand the outdoors environment. While there is an external application from Sony to control the speaker settings, you are also able to do majority of it on the speaker itself. The applications allows you to adjust different equalizer settings, and lighting effects. In case you were wondering, the app does allow you to turn off the power on/off sound that is extremely loud. If you want to get even fancier, there is a also the Fiestable app that allows you to be a DJ so to speak. Overall, no complaints over the usability of the speaker as it is very intuitive and easy. Now on to the more important part of a speaker, and that is how does it sound? The best way to put it is that it does very well for its size. This speaker can get extremely loud, and even at high volumes it can still get decent clarity. The expectation falls flat when you are looking for clean deep bass and this just doesn't deliver on that very well. Any song that requires a bass drop will be a little disappointing, but for everything else it does pretty good. Depending on the ULT mode you put it in, the treble can get muddied. You kind of have to play with the EQ settings yourself to find something that fits your genre of music, it's kind of hard for a one size fits all setting . At the end of the day, this is a very usable portable speaker. It allows you to blast music at a high volume outdoors, and in a pinch even use it with a microphone/guitar. The ease of use makes this a great choice for anyone who does not want to deal with technology and remember how connect their phone through bluetooth.

This is my review of the Sony ULT Field 7 Wireless Speaker upon which I give 5 out of 5 stars. Out of the box, this speaker demands respect as it weighs in at 13-pounds. This speaker has great symetry and balanced with two 4.4" woofers with one at each end of the cylinder shaped frame. There are also 2 tweeters at 1.8" each lineraly placed on the cylindracle tube. I especially like the built-in handles at each end making it easy to cary. It can be played either standing on etiher end or layed on its side. The speaker has a great sequence of apps. There is the Sony Music Center, Fiestable, and the HelpGuide. Sony to pull it all together on the backend. I knew in advace that the Music Center app was in serious contention being that it has its own four frequency equalizer. The Fiestable app has a Party Play list option giving the user the ability to synchronize other players playlists. The Party Light option allows for light synchronization across oher players along with your own. As for sound quality and sound bar placement, a user can stand the speaker up on its end to drive loud bass from on of the end woofers or one can place the unit on its side to allow for a balanced presentation of sound across the speakers. The speaker has a side panel where you have the ability to play music through a USB thumb-drive. You can fire up my adding either a microphone for Karaoke or adding a guitar. This ULT 7 Speaker has a different shape compared to previous Sony portable speakers. Setting it up was straightforward: just turn it on, scan the QR code, and install the Sony App. Then, it guides you through the pairing process. The app offers many settings beyond the usual media options like Spotify and Pandora. I could adjust the RGB lighting, though only to preset patterns, not custom colors. The speaker features two Bass Boost options: ULT 1 for deep bass and ULT 2 for louder sound. It can lay flat or stand up, making it versatile for parties or the beach, and it's tough with its IPX 67 rating. What's more, it has a mic input for karaoke and a guitar input, adding to its versatility. However, the downside is that it's not particularly loud for its price. Battery life was around 20 hours on ULT 2 mode, but the app only showed battery in 20% increments, making it somewhat inconvenient to manage. Nonetheless, the multipoint connection was handy for streaming music with friends, as up to three people could connect to the speaker simultaneously. Overall, while the Speaker offers unique features and versatility, its sound quality might not fully justify its price. Yet, its durability and additional functions like mic and guitar inputs make it a solid choice for various occasions, from gatherings to outdoor activities.
