This is more of a review of the purchase experience than the product, as what I received was a repackaged product that didn't even include the needle, was all scratched up, missing documentation, etc. I just had to return it as it was not usable.

The turntable works fine but I'm not sure why volume only goes so high. When I plug in my Walkman the volume really cranks. I'm assuming I should've bought a more powerful receiver.

I purchased this turntable to transfer vinyl record to CD or MP3 by connecting direct toPC. So far I haven't been able to connect properly. Still trying, now with an older PC.

I can’t review a functional model of this turntable, because the one I received was not. It was listed as an open box item in excellent condition, but couldn’t even be set up to sit flat. Although there was a great sale on turntables when I purchased this, being an open box item put it within my Christmas budget. Store credit was issued to the recipient of this gift, but of course the sale was over, and the turntables cost double the store credit. Please check your open box items more carefully. I had a lot of confidence in your “excellent” rating.

This is a review on just the sound of the player. I have not tried to record anything yet. I may amend the review at that time. This is just a review of the sound. Firstly, I am using the phonograph with my Yamaha receiver and surround sound (Polk towers in front, yamahas everywhere else, powered sub). The player was pretty easy to put together (read the instructions to make sure I got it right) and took ten minutes. Basically it is putting the wheel on and attaching the rubber band that turns the wheel. Someone said something about having to put it on, but think about it- you don't want that band sitting stretched unused at the warehouse, getting brittle. You want it sealed so it is fresh and lasts longer when you open it. I bought the audiophile edition Appetite For Destruction LP at the same time from BB. I am no audiophile, but I do own a ton of SACDs, DVD-Audios, remasters of classic albums, imports, reg. CDs, iPods, shuffles, tapes, etc. I know what I like and have heard about everything. I still think I am just a guy who likes music. That said, I love what I'm hearing so far. While I will abmit I'm a sucker for surround sound and am blown away by SACD's like Pink Floyd and DTS 5.1 music like Queen that I can hear all around me, for stereo purposes, this sounds fantastic. I can't imagine a higher priced player that I would be able to tell the difference on. People claim that the music is warmer and If I know what they are saying, I think it might be true. Axel Rose doesn't sound like he is right in my face like he does on CDs. He seems a little more blended, although you can pick out all the instruments w/out a problem. The crackle in between sounds takes me back to the 1970s listening to my K-Tel records in the basement. The first time I bumped the player and it skipped I waited for my older sister to yell at me. It's nice being older now :) If you have LPs and no player, why not? You can make use of those LPs and they sound nice and clear. You also have the ability to make them into mp3s, if you so choose. Thats it. I'm off to ebay to look for my next LP.

I purchased this turntable as "open box". When I opened it, everything was in accounted for. After reading the manual, assembly only took me five minutes. Now came to recording. The software provided is for Windows only. For those of you who have a Mac like me, you can download Audacity, which is an open-source recording software. When starting up for the first time, go to the Preferences (Command-,) and in the input choose USB AUDIO CODEC and click OK. No drivers are necessary. Once I did this, I was up and running. I was surprised with the sound quality; it sounded great!! I especially liked the automatic function, which prevents the records from being scratched. For the price, this turntable serves the purpose. The assembly instructions were clear and I had no problems at all. Replacement parts for this turntable are available at www.sony.encompass.com. The model number is PS-LX300USB. Here are the part numbers for the following: Drive belt 9-885-117-87 Sylus 9-885-135-44

I got this SONY USB phonograph for Christmas to help me convert my albums to digital. It's Jan 8th and it's still not working on my computer either through USB connection or after I bought a PYLE PP555 pre-amp from BestBuy as suggested on the instructions. Those same installation instructions knocked out all sound out of my computer until I meticulously re-set my control panel settings. I'm sure this phonograph may work for some but so far for me it's a waste of money and time. VERY Disappointed!

Best Buy might do well to get just a few high-tech turntables into the store. I grabbed this cheap Sony, thinking that my new receiver would compensate for it. It doesn't work that way anymore. I'm stuck with the Sony, and must buy a much more expensive turntable, AND some kind of amplifying box that costs about $200 along with $400 for a decent turntable. This aspect of the $6500 some-odd dollars I just spent for a good home theatre, has turned into a real can of worms, and has really soured the whole deal.

Since I already own this I wanted to buy one for my sister. Bought this open box and then felt insulted. Shipped to my home with hinges broken on cover, missing the adapter for smaller records, and the final insult no needle, not even the housing for the needle. Open box is supposed to be certified? Returning. Just can't believe someone packed this in a box and sent to my home. The record player itself is a great unit- just not open box from Best Buy I guess.

I was fortunate enough to find this great turntable at my local best buy for about a third of the full-price because it was an open-box special. I'm loving this player already. The Sony software it comes with is great too. It allows for simple vinyl to MP3 conversion should you choose to backup your classic albums with that snap, crackle, and pop that today's crisp CD's lack. (Not necessarily a good things for those of us who grew up listening to vinyl.) Don't get me wrong, I love listening to music on CD's, but sometimes the nostalgic side of me wants to listen to the crackling and popping of the records. The overall sound quality is great. Setup is simple. I'm guessing the turntable I purchased was returned because someone probably didn't read the manual and thought the player was defective. There is some minor assembly required. There is the silver platter which must be put in place as well as the rubber pad on top of the silver platter. First, however; there is a rubber belt wrapped around the base of the silver platter. This belt MUST be placed around the piece which spins the platter. If you do not do that first your player will appear to be non-functional. If you're not the type to read manuals (like myself) you may miss that. In any case, this is a great player and I was lucky to get a great deal on it. The retail price seems a bit high for me... especially when there are players on the market that you can get for 99 bucks, but it's definitely a good quality product! I'd highly recommend it for anyone who wants to convert their classic albums to a digital format.

I purchased this turntable as an open box/return special. When I got the turntable home and hooked it up, it obviously had not been checked out because once the stylus hit the record the sound was completely distorted. I had to drive another 40 miles from home just to return the not so bargain, bargain.
