Great product, bad instructions
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is amazing! Perfect for a beginner like myself! My only negative comment about this record player is that the instructions are horrible. It took me 3 or 4 YouTube tutorials to figure out how to assemble it but after I figured it out the player worked beautifully!

Quite good for the price. Use Audacity software
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The old software others complain of was not even included in my box. No big deal, just downloaded free Audacity software that set me up with a sweet recording studio. That allows me to record vinyl into the computer then burn to compact disc.

worked for me
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used this product to convert my record collection into MP3 for my MP3 player. I wanted a product that would allow me to keep all of the "record noise" and this did the trick. I had to adjust the line-in volume (microphone.. even though I connected only via USB) in order to get a real nice quality. The microphone volume on mine was set to like 10% so that the record sounds as sweet as possible. On a side note: track recognition of the software was terrible and detected every record as one track.

Met my expectation.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am fairly new to listening and collecting vinyl. The first turntable I bought was a Crosley Cruiser. Looks nice but the sound quality was awful. I made a step up and bought this Sony turntable a few days ago. The difference is like day and night. It sounds so much better because there is a built in pre-amp and an overall better stylus and mechanisms. It will allow you to transfer music onto your PC and PC ONLY computer. The downside is that it does not come with the software for MACs. Unfortunate but the majority of the LPs I bought I already have them on some type of digital form already. Overall, I really am loving it.

Nice audio cleanup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just received this turntable as a gift, and plan to use it to convert my vinyl albums to CDs. It was very easy to plug and play using the USB port, and I have tried it on 8-10 albums so far. The audio cleanup software is pretty successful at removing pops and hiss, not perfect, but much cleaner than the original. When using the USB connection, however, there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the recording level, so I have gotten some distortion/clipping on some albums because the recording level was too high. If I could adjust the recording level, this would be much better - maybe using the line-in jacks would allow adjustment. The software is not at all successful at recognizing the tracks. I am currently saving the music file as one long track, and then seperating them manually using another piece of software (audacity). It's a bit of a manual process, but the end result is a pretty nice CD of an old (in some cases almost 50 year old) vinyl record. I have not tried this player connected through my stereo receiver, only through my computer. It can play 45's and 33's and has an adjustment for the record size as well. It also has a little flip down stylus guard which I like.

This is a nice record player.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this item for Christmas to play some old vinyls my dad gave me and some new ones I had purchased. The player was very easy to set up. I haven't had any experience with the burning software (have most of my vinyl records as mp3s already anyway). I'm playing the system through an auxillary input on an Onkyo TX SR505 with a powered subwoofer. Motown records sound great on this! An earlier poster mentioned having trouble with feedback at high volume levels. So far I have only had distortion problems on one vinyl (Metallica's Death Magnetic). If you're looking for a nice record player to play some older vinyls, this is definitely a great buy.

Great for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This turntable performs well, but the lack of a pre-amp is very noticeable. Even so, I would recommend this turntable for what it does fairly well, Switchable EQ is nice, and a damped tonearm movement with automatic operation is appreciated. Some more expensive models don't do this, and tonearm handling is very important. Installing the belt drive and platter is easy. The rubber mat on the platter is thin, but adequate. Some background rumble is audible at times, but is barely noticeable. The included software is not impressive, but easy availability of better software mitigates this fault. Instructions for recording USB and monitoring via the PC are confusing. The short RCA cable requires extension to connect to the amplifier. Not cool. Fortunately I'm using this turntable to digitize my LP collection, so am satisfied to leave it offline for now. Considering the price, this is still a good buy, and in spite of the faults I am very happy. It would be easy to spend more for less functionality.

Great for ripping vinyl to MP3
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I usually have this plugged to my receiver (and no you don't need a pre-amp) so I can listen to my old vinyl through my sound system. It sounds great. I can also hook it to my MacBook Pro, my Macintosh or my Windows computer and convert vinyl to MP3. I have even used a Linux computer for this purpose. In addition I can connect it to my iPad and record using GarageBand. It's very versatile because it's a USB device. I use Audacity for converting the stream to digital but I have also used GarageBand, QuickTime, Cubase, Logic, Ableton, ProTools, etc. Basically, you can use any program capable of capturing an audio stream. Your system will recognize the device as a sound card. Then you set the preferences in your audio program to use that device for audio input. You can record the audio as one continuous stream, or one song at a time. If you record one continuous stream you can break it up into songs later.

Great for my needs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an excellent turntable for what I need. I just want to transfer some of my lps over to mp3 and this one does it well. I looked around the internet and there were many USB turntables out there that were cheaper, some by almost half. But when reading the reviews, I was unsure if one of those units would even work when it arrived. I found this one at Best Buy and while it's a little pricey, the quality is there as well as my peace of mind. I knew I could take it back to the store if I had problems.....but no need. It works great. The software is pretty easy to learn. You just have to sit down and take time to learn it. If you just want to play and/or transfer lps to your computer or to CDs, you will be happy with this Sony.

Very nice turntable for basic use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this for my girlfriend as a Christmas present, and we're happy so far. I should note that we really just got this to play records, so I haven't bothered with the USB functionality; nor are we huge audiophiles, so I can't speak to how it compares to high-end record players. If you're just in the market for a basic, yet quality turntable, however, I heartily recommend it.

VERY NICE BASIC TURNTABLE
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Sony "Actually made by Audio Technica" is a great basic turntable. It has both types of hookups (RCA Cables & USB) . And with the build in Pre-Amp , you can hook it up to a PC, Home Stereo Receiver or anything with a PHONO, AUX, LINE IN or other such Inputs. To start with it has an Audio Technica cartridge & stylus so it's going to have a great sound. The nice belt drive & aluminum platter keeps a nice constant accurate speed. NO, This is not a High End turntable for true Audiophile type vinyl collectors. But for someone who still loves vinyl and wanting to keep it basic and simple at a nice price "This is for you" .... And have no fear because of this not actually being made by Sony, Audio Technica is a company and has made this very same turntable for many other brands such as JVC, DENON, PIONEER, AIWA & Others...... "Long Live Vinyl"

Get a Preamp
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have a newer home theater receiver that does not have phono inputs, you are able to connect the turntable through your CD inputs. It has an optional built-in amp for this purpose - you just move the switch on the back from phono to "line in". UNFORTUNATELY, the sound was gutless. I was able to crank up my receiver to the max and was still not loud enough. I purchased a preamp with an adjustable gain, ran the turntable through it and bypassed the internal amp. WOW. AMAZING SOUND. So deep, rich, great highs and lows. And it really knocks the walls down. The only way to play Who's Next or Exile on Main Street.

Works and sounds great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just wanted a simple record player. Didn't need the conversion to digital like a bunch of players are these days. You have to put on the belt for this player but it was easy. It sounds and works great! No complaints. I guess i wish the audio cords were a bit longer but other than that i like it just fine!
