You can still hear at lower volumes but once you turn up the volume, even just a little, all the external noise goes away. These are great and would recommend to anyone

They go off and on, in/out while listening to music or talking on the phone. I thought based on the price and Brand name they world be better quality but they aren’t.

For fit concern, the WF-1000XM3 features an Ergonomic Tri-hold structure design for a snugly and comfortably fitting. A high-friction rubber surface keeps the noise canceling earbuds snug and secure in your ear so they won’t slip out unexpectedly. This does also come with an assortment of earbuds in various sizes to ensure there is a great fit for all ear sizes. To ensure optimal performance and reduce discomfort while wearing the headphones, we recommend to try to use the right size according to the size of your ears. When wearing them, please gently pull on the top of your ear as you twist the earbud into your ear.
The communication between the devices will be poor if there is an obstruction between the unit and the connected device. As a suggestion, you may try setting the Sound quality mode to Priority on stable connection (via Sony Headphones Connect app) and see if it resolves the problem. Also, check that the headphones are running on the latest firmware version. The software includes key features, applications, bug fixes, and feature improvements.

The noise canceling feature is great and you can pause at a touch. Switching devices was easy as well.

Features are great. Full disclosure- I purchased them on sale. I own several headphones. These sound as good as $300 competitors.

I used it (or attempted to) for approximately 12 hours of work call. The worst problem was inconsistency - same setting and same environment would result in varying microphone quality. When it worked, it worked flawlessly and when it didnt (at least 50% of the times), I got complaints of my voice being garbled, under water, choppy, etc. Sometimes during the middle of the call left ear bud would disconnect and reconnect. Both pairs had same issues and I checked Sony's instructions and guides but nothing fixed those issues.

I planned to use them for my phone, laptop, and tablet. Setup for the phone was quick and easy, and the sound quality was everything people said it would be. But that's where the enjoyment ended, because after a frustrating couple of hours trying to connect them to my tablet (a Surface Pro 6), I discovered by looking through far too many forums that these headphones aren't compatible with Windows 10 devices! How is that even possible in 2019? $230 for a pair of headphones that won't connect to Windows devices? Come on, Sony--you can do better. Even most of the cheapest wireless headphones on the market work with Windows. I'm incredibly disappointed, and will be returning these for a refund.
