For fit concern, the WF-1000XM3 features an Ergonomic Tri-hold structure design for a snugly and comfortably fitting. A high-friction rubber surface keeps the noise canceling earbuds snug and secure in your ear so they won’t slip out unexpectedly. This does also come with an assortment of earbuds in various sizes to ensure there is a great fit for all ear sizes. It took much less than the 3.5h stated in the “user’s guide” to fully charge the case and earphones. The first time out of the charging case, the WF-1000XM3 goes into pairing mode. If pairing with iPhone or Android phone, you may be prompted to install the Sony Headphones Connect app. The app allows you to tune the noise canceling mode, equalization, and pairing priority (stable connection or sound quality), but comes with a EULA that allows Sony to gather lots of data on your usage of the earphones and your phone (I deleted it due to privacy concerns). Design: The completely wireless design is great. There is no cord so there are no microphonics. However, with no cable between the earphones, you can lose either one. The lid on the charging case has a much better design than the original model. It is easy to open and with the lip in front you don’t have to guess which side of the lid the hinge is on. The control buttons are on the back of the earpiece (rather than on the side as in the original model) making the controls easy to operate. The magnetic lid closure and seating system makes charging case very easy to use. My only complaint about the case is that it has a round bottom and will not stand up. Bluetooth reception in the left and right earpieces is in parallel with the source, not in series. This minimizes delays between the left and right channels and allows more synchronous audio and no noticeable delay between video and audio when streaming. Operation: Bluetooth pairing is very easy. Pressing the button on both earpieces for 7sec puts them into pairing mode. Bluetooth range was exceptional. I was startled when I put the earpieces in at one end of my house and heard “your connected”. My tablet was at the other end of the house and on another floor (>35ft away through three walls). Changing of noise canceling modes was very sensitive to the duration of the touch on the left earpiece. A very short tap is all that is required. Bluetooth 5.0 works well with LDAC and apt-X HD codex. The temporary disabling of noise canceling by holding a hand to your left ear is a nice feature when a flight attendant wants to get your attention. However, it took me a while to figure out that you have to actually touch (and continue to touch) the earpiece control button, not just cup your hand over your ear as pictured in the documentation. Taking the left earphone out pauses playback. This is a nice feature to preserve battery on your digital audio player and the WF-1000XM3. Noise Canceling: I have several pairs of noise canceling headphones/earphones and the WF-1000XM3 is clearly the best. Microphone: On calls, I am often told that my voice sounds muffled. I have found no way to increase the microphone gain. Sound Quality: The sound quality on the WF-1000XM3 is excellent. They are great for streaming video! The synchronous Bluetooth feature makes these earphones almost as good as wired. All Bluetooth codex variants (even LDAC & abtX-HD) are lossy and the sound quality will never be as good as set of audiophile quality headphones. However, like good audiophile earphones, bad recordings will sound worse than you might expect (the bad news) and good recordings will be amazing (the good news). The frequency response on the WF-1000XM3 is excellent with no notable bias. Bass is full and clean without being too forward or attenuated (featured tracks 1, 2, & 6). Female vocals are clear and distinct (featured tracks 3 & 4). Orchestral works are balanced over the wide frequency and dynamic ranges (featured tracks 7, 8, & 9). Electonica was amazing (20Hz to at the highest frequency I could hear) (featured track 10). Jazz was spacious with good instrument separation and frequency response from cymbal brushes to bass (featured tracks 11 & 12). Battery: Battery life is very good given the inherent demands of noise canceling and Bluetooth communication. Overall: The WF-1000XM3 is a notable improvement over its predecessor. Sound quality is very good and the synchronous Bluetooth make them excellent for streaming video. The muted microphone makes them less suitable for phone conversations than others of my Bluetooth headsets, but with their excellent noise cancellation and unbiased frequency response, these are now my go-to wireless headphones for travel. Can't really work to the expectation (compared to Sony's over-the-ear one) under noisy environment, such as subway stations. The connection is not stable. One side sometimes lost the connection for no reason. It even happens during the phone call. Occasionally, both sides may just shut down. Also, It may fall off fairly easily. it's not definitely not worth the price.

• For Bluetooth connection issue: The WF-1000XM3 has a new Bluetooth chip and an optimized antenna design to provide a stable connection for hours of wireless streaming. To ensure you get the best Bluetooth connection, please set the headphones Bluetooth Connection Mode to “Priority on stable connection”
-Change the position or location of the unit or connected device.
-If the connected device has a cover on it, take it off to improve the communication distance.
-If the connected device is in a bag or in a pocket, try moving the position of the device.
-Place the devices closer together to improve signal transmission
• Signal interference may occur when a Wi-Fi device is in use near the unit if they both use the same 2.4 GHz frequency band. To resolve the issue, try the following:
-Turn off the Wi-Fi function of the connected device.
-If a Wi-Fi device is in use near the unit, turn off its Wi-Fi function or use the device at least ten meters away from the unit.
-Use the unit as far away as possible from a microwave oven, ticket gates, other Bluetooth devices, or places that generate electromagnetic radiation.

Great sound but killed my ears and was heavy

We regret to hear that you are having issues with your wireless headphones. The WF-1000XM3 comes with different sizes of earbuds to ensure there is a great fit for all ear sizes and an optimal noise canceling experience. Please use the right size according to the size of your ears. When wearing them, please gently pull on the top of your ear as you twist the earbud into your ear.
