Build The first thing you notice when you open the box is the quality of construction. The Sony WF-1000XM3 wireless headphones are well constructed as is the battery case. The buds are held in the case with magnets and the lid also has a magnetic closure with a red light to show the buds are charging. Just like your fridge, the lights on the buds go out when you close the lid. Charging is done by USB-C and a short cord is included. Since the case has NFC, I would have also liked wireless charging but sadly, it doesn’t have it. They also are not sweat/water resistant, something to consider if you plan on using these for running or the gym. Fit The headphones ship with four sizes of ear buds in silicone and three sizes in triple comfort memory foam. I found the medium silicone buds which came attached, worked perfectly for me. There is also a high-friction surface on the tips which also helps keep the buds in place. I found the earbuds to be the most comfortable I have experienced so far. Connection Taking the ear buds out of the case for the first time puts them in pairing mode. They paired with my iPhone with out issue. Touching both buds for seven seconds puts them back into pairing mode to pair with other devices. NFC Pairing with my Android phone was quick and easy. The connection held steady through my entire commute, including several difficult spots which have a lot of interference that knocks the signal off most of my other Bluetooth headsets. Rather than pairing just one side and the other connecting to it, both pair directly to your device which reduces sound sync issues. I was able to watch YouTube videos and the lips matched the words I heard on all of them. The simultaneous connections also mean you can use the earbuds one at a time like old school Bluetooth telephone ear pieces. Battery Life Battery life on the Sony WF-1000XM3 buds can vary between 3 and 8 hours depending on codec, DSEE HX and noise cancelling settings. The case is able to charge the buds three more times and a 10-minute quick charge will get 90 minutes of additional life. I’ve not worn the buds long enough to have the battery die. Battery life for the earbuds is always available using the Sony Headphone connect app. Sound I have to say the Sony WF-1000XM3 wireless earbuds are the best sounding buds I have. The bass is punchy and deep; the mids and highs are crisp and bright. The noise cancelling is incredible to a fault. Listening to music with the noise cancelling on, I did not hear my wife come home or the door close behind her. When using these and she’s watching television, they completely block out the tv sound. You can also use ambient sound to hear some sounds around you or the quick attention mode by pressing the left bud. This lowers the volume and transmits outside sound and conversations so you can hear it. This works much better than either of my JLabs wireless buds. Controls The earbuds are controlled by touch sensors on each bud, indicated by a circular dot and is the best working touch sensor I’ve seen so far. The left side cycles between noise-cancelling on, ambient sound on and both off. The right bud controls the playback/pause and skip forward and back. The Sony’s do not have a volume control, you have to adjust volume on your device rather than on the headphones. App The Sony Headphone Connect App is a must have with these buds. You can control everything with it, including noise cancelling, ambient sound and equalize your sound. Battery life of each bud is shown at the top. The app allows you to customize the touch controls on each bud. Setting up the app on my Android phone automatically brought up the google assistant and asked if I wanted to integrate it to the app; I did and it reconfigured the left bud controls to work the assistant. This didn’t happen on my iPhone. Phone calls I was a little disappointed with how the earbuds handled phone calls. The called party sounded great however, they had difficulty hearing me clearly. Maybe this will be corrected in a future update. Overall, the Sony WF-1000XM3 wireless earbuds are the best I’ve tried, knocking my JLabs in to second place. I feel the $229 price is fair, however, I would expect to see these on sale quickly as competition heats up. I would highly (and have) recommended these to my friends.

I got these for my dad for Xmas and he loves them. Dropped one in some kind of liquid at work and didn’t have any issues

Love the stereo imaging and idolation. Soundstage is present but not really wide. Love that I can use the ldac codec from my receiver.

Like the title says, when these worked they are incredible! Music and movies sounded awesome! That’s if you figure out how to stop the bleeping noises when you first get them. Then out of nowhere, they stop working. They would control the music playback, my phone shows that they were connected, yet music nor video sounds could be heard. Quite a shame, because when they worked they were perfect.

Very poor design, the comfort ability of the earbud is very lacking. It is not comfortable to wear for very long at all sound Quality is average to mediocre at best.

Where to start? The noise cancelling is pretty good for Earbuds. It doesn't hold a candle to full size headphones that covers the ear's noise cancelling, so as long as you aren't expecting that level of deadening of sound, these are pretty good. The sound from these wireless earbuds is very comparable with wired earbuds, and I am very pleased with their sound reproduction. The app has a lot of features and is easy to use, a necessity for all but basic use. These things are TINY, as in you might lose them with very little effort tiny. Maybe they should have made them in hunter orange...just kidding, well kinda. A bright color for bright personalities would make sense for the size of these things. Anything to help find them. And that leads to..... The case is great and since they are so tiny, you will want to store them in here when you aren't using them. The case will recharge these things multiple times, up to a max of 24 hours is the claim. I haven't had to recharge the case yet. This is a really good feature for earbuds for traveling. Should easily outlast the battery life in any two or even three of your other devices you would be using the earbuds with. These pair very quickly with phones, tablets, laptops with recent versions of Bluetooth. They repair very very quickly when turning back on. Earbuds "talk" to you when doing status/change status like most modern Bluetooth headset type devices. I find the manual controls on the headset took a bit to get use to, that's what you get for using a lot of different headsets. Talking on the phone worked well, person on other end reported that I sounded "normal", and they sounded fine too. Google assistant feature worked fine, I've never used this particular feature for Google Assistant, Alexa, etc since they started including this on headsets a few years ago, I tend to be holding my phone when I want something requested, but for a quick check of the time I guess it could be useful. All in all, these are some serious wireless earbuds with a bunch of features / customizations via the app. I would definitely recommend these to people, just realize the active noise cancelling is nowhere in the realm of similarly priced over the ear headphones. And I might have to put some hunter green or neon green on these things, because I really think I'm going to lose them sooner than later.

Sony can absolutely build some beautiful and high tech products, and these in-ear headphones are just that. The build quality of the earphone and the charging case is superb. The appearance is sexy and modern, and along with that, the sound quality is the best I’ve heard from earbuds. The packaging is very nice but not overdone. The instructions are minimalist for sure, but if you install the Sony Headphones app as instructed, it will lead you through the setup and pairing. I found the process easy and painless, and the pairing worked on the first attempt. The app also lets you shape and control the sound and reassign a couple of button functions. It also lets you set the amount of ambient sound passed through, turn ambient off, and turn noise canceling on. That selection can also be changed by the touchpads on the buds. However, the same button press is used to cycle these selections or to trigger Google Assistant, so you have to decide which function you want at your fingertip. The app is the only method to shape sound and equalization, but there are a number of presets, and they all can be modified. You can absolutely make these guys sound the way you want, and that sound is fabulous. The buttons on the buds are capacitive touch and not physical buttons. That would make you think that these earphones are waterproof, but not so. If you’re working out and get very sweaty, these may not be for you. In my mind, they are aimed at daily work, commuting, relaxing and phone use. They even have the ability to detect the environmental noise level and adjust the amount of ambient sound passed through. If you use the foam earbud covers to seal them to your ears, the noise canceling is better then many over the ear headphones. BTW, they include two types of ear inserts in three sizes each. The case will completely recharge the buds up to three times, so with a 6-8 hour per charge running time (noise-canceling cuts the run time) and three charges, you’re good for a long while. The case also has NFC, so you can quickly pair to any particular device with a touch. Controlling ambient and noise-canceling are the areas were these Sony wireless in-ear headphones are absolutely the leader and probably in a class their own. I think the sound and music quality is equal to the best anyone offers in earbuds wired or not. These are first-class earphones.

I never had wireless headphones and was talked into them by Best Buy employee.I have to say I thought they were pricey, but worth every penny!

Cannot use for phone conversation on calls with slightly elevated ambient noise levels. Music quality is fine.

The music quality was fantastic. The noise cancellation was great too. The buds were too heavy and were not comfortable. The ear buds wouldn't do phone calls right. Any time I got an incoming call everything was garbled. I did a reset, I reinstalled, I made sure firmware was up to date. There was no way to get help from Sony on this issue. I did research and found that it is a very common problem.

The directions made this product easy to understand and the performance is fantastic. Worth every penny!
