Great sound, lacking features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.After quickly unboxing the WF-1000XM3’s I was impressed with the design of the charging case and the earpieces themselves. Solid, hefty, and high quality. Just what you’d expect from Sony. The instructions, if you can call them that, are a complete joke and are essentially worthless. If you aren’t comfortable with pairing a set of headphones, don’t rely on Sony to help you out here. Anyway, mine paired up easily using the same app Sony has been using for a while for all its Bluetooth headphones. After pairing, I slipped them in and they seemed to fit fairly well right out of the box. Played some test music and, using the app, adjusted the sound to my liking. This is where these little things shine. Plenty of volume, relatively deep lows considering they are earbuds, crisp highs, and no muddying up the middle. They are truly a joy to listen to. Now for the downs and why I dinged them a couple of stars. There are basically two things you can control with taps (there are no physical buttons of any kind), play/pause and ambient sound/noise canceling on or off. No volume. No skip or reverse tracks. None of the basic things I’ve gotten used to. Yes, Google Assistant is built in, but there are lots of times I don’t want to speak to a virtual assistant to adjust the volume. Seems like a pretty major omission. The only other negative I have is that when using these in mildly active activities, like mowing the yard, they don’t feel secure. I’ve tried several different tips but never felt confident about them staying in place. The left one fell out 3 times. Luckily, they are hefty enough to know you’ve lost one and large enough you should be able to spot it relatively easily, but having to constantly adjust them while being active is another miss for these. TheXM3’s turn on and off automatically when taking them out or putting them in the case, they pause the music when you remove one and restart automatically when you return it to your ear (this setting is configurable in the app), they retain the Bluetooth connection very well, and they sound fantastic. If Sony could work out the other issues I’ve mentioned these would be phenomenal. As is, they are just ok. Nevertheless, based solely on the sound quality I’d recommend them.

Very disappointed, as I have owned many iem style earbuds in the past from various brands, mostly a few sennheiser's. Very sad, ended up with the galaxy buds live and they fit super snug! Can headbang all day no problemo, even!!!

Their sound quality was terrible to me, so little low end even compared to my airpods. They felt uncomfortable in my ear and the noise cancelling was terrible. I ended up getting XM3 headphones and I'm very impressed by them.

Updating the headphones using the Sony Headphones Connect app will help improve the sound quality of the WF-1000XM3, also it has an equalizer feature that you can use to fine tune the audio to your liking. The WF-1000XM3 also comes with different sizes of earbuds to ensure there is a great fit for all ear sizes and an optimal noise canceling experience. Please use the right size according to the size of your ears. When wearing them, please gently pull on the top of your ear as you twist the earbud into your ear. This should give you a firmer hold and better noise canceling experience. If the earbud tips tend to come off or you feel that there is insufficient low frequency sound and a difference in volume between the left and right units, change the earbud tips to another size to comfortably and snugly fit your left and right ears.
