Impressive and Excellent
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, I have a new favorite pair of headphones. I haven't owned any earbuds in a while and these are the first truly wireless phones I've ever tried, but Sony has put the whole package together here in a way that easily best my go to over-the-ear noise cancelling cans. Most important to me is that these buds sound outstanding with music. Just hands down good no matter what genre I throw at them. I'm also actually happy and surprised to say that Sony's own Headphones Connect app is really useful, as well. You can use various EQ presets or manually tweak the sound to suit your preference (or just keep things flat), hit play/pause, skip tracks, control the level of Noise Cancelling, use their DSEE HX tech, and more all within the one app. And the noise cancelling here is no joke. Way better than my older headphones in that regard. I've also been pleased with how comfortable they are to use, so far. That's a big issue for me with pretty much all headphones. And you've got 7 (!) different sets of ear tips to help find the perfect fit. Crazy. But this is maybe my favorite thing of all with these earbuds: I've never used another bluetooth device (and I've used plenty) that connect to my phone as easily as these do. The initial set up was an absolute breeze, but it's even easier from there. I take the earbuds out of the charging case. I put them in my ears. They're connected and ready. That's it. You don't even turn the earbuds on or off, they do it automatically. I haven't had to go into settings or Sony's app a single time to get them to connect to my phone (Pixel 3). It's seamless and effortless, exactly as it should be. They connect to each other and everything plays in perfect, balanced stereo. Every time! Bonus points: the packaging is solid and well thought out. I like that I can map the touch controls the way I want to and have Google Assistant right at my fingertip on the left side. The charging case looks awesome, feels premium, and has lights and magnets that make it seem like it's from the future. I like that they came charged out of the box, no waiting to use for the first time. And I just like how the earbuds look. I don't feel goofy wearing these. Things to consider: I've briefly tested call functions and was told that there's a decent amount of background noise coming through my end of the call. The touch functions take some getting used to and there's no way to control volume (to my knowledge). While range away from your phone is excellent, you still may need to keep it on hand. Lastly, I don't think these are really intended to be used while exercising. No mention of being sweat or water resistant, at least. Bottom line, these are awesome.

Terrible Purchase
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Incredibly unhappy with this purchase. Sound quality no good. Fit, among the worst ever. I purchased the over-the ear-Bluetooth Sony headset after I tried a few more buds. That product is killer good. Stay away from these.

Great WHEN they work
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've never had so many issues connecting to a bluetooth device as these earbuds. And even when they do connect to my computer, the signal cuts out slightly so my audio clicks. My computer is literally directly next to where I sit so distance isn't the issue.

Posted .Hi Mayi,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience using your new Sony WF-1000XM3. We regret you're experiencing problems with your unit. We will surely take note of your feedback to improve our products and services. The noise-canceling function is effective in low-frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices. Although noise is reduced, it is not completely cancelled.

Comfortable, Great Sound, A+ Noise Reduction
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These truly wireless headphones from Sony sound great, and do a fantastic job of reducing ambient noise. I’ve now had a chance to try them on my daily rail commute and while flying. They don’t block and cancel as much noise as the large, over-the-ear style headphones I’ve used, but they come impressively close. It’s really very convenient to get the high level of noise cancellation that I want in a less conspicuous form factor, not to mention a case that takes up a lot less room in my bag. I’m not exactly the biggest audiophile on the block, but I listen to a lot of music and podcasts while traveling and commuting. Music sounds clear at a variety of volumes, with bright highs and rich lows, and voices in podcasts are easy to understand. The companion app has an equalizer with presets for a variety of moods, plus a manual adjustment option. The active noise cancellation in these headphones really excels, especially when I started to tweak the settings using the app. You can increase or decrease the level of ambient noise that gets through to your ears, and there’s a check box to allow voices through at a higher level than other sounds. There’s an option in the app to automatically change the level of noise cancellation based on your activity level (uses your phone’s motion sensors), but I didn’t really care for that. I liked adjusting settings on my own. The headphones are lightweight, and include several different size ear tips, in two different materials. Once I found the right fit, I found I could barely even notice the headphones in my ears. They fit securely, but there’s no over-the-ear hook option, so I probably wouldn’t use them for running or vigorous activity. There’s a sensor in each earphone to detect when it’s in your ear, and a setting that automatically pauses music when you take one out. That’s been very nice for quickly joining a conversation or listening for an airline announcement. Also, it’s helped prevent me from accidentally activating the touch-sensitive “button” surfaces before I have the headphones in place. Support for Google Assistant has been very helpful, as well, letting me hear more about my notifications without reaching for my phone. While these headphones are compact compared to most other headphones with active noise cancelling, they are a little bit larger than many other truly-wireless headphones on the market right now, and the case is a bit bulky too. Pocket sized if you have a large pocket. The Sony WF-1000XM3 headphones are convenient, with excellent sound, and noise cancellation that’s even better than I expected. They’re a little larger than other wireless headphones, and so is their carrying/charging case, but that’s definitely not a dealbreaker for me. I’m happy with them, and would recommend them to others.
